Love the tips thank you. Could you consider a video on palette management….everything seems to start out neat and tidy and soon blends all,over the plate and onto the rim. Do you always have to start in a new area to blend a new colour? How do you avoid wasting paint? How do you know when you can mix back into a previously used blend? How do you avoid mud? Where do you never use / always use white in your mixes? Thanks for considering….a dos donts with examples would be AWESOME! 🙏

Oooh ok great questions! I’ll make note of these so I can add them to my next gouache video. I tend to mix all over the palette and it does become messy quickly, if i’m mixing a totally different color i tend to go to a new area to avoid contamination but if it’s, for eg, a variation green and i already have green on the palette then i mix close to it or use it as a base. I also don’t tend to use a ready mixed black often as I feel like it muddies my colors quickly. And definitely try to really clean the brush/es really thoroughly between very diff colors ro avoid muddying too. Hope that helps but will def add these questions in a video too 💕

Your paintings are amazing! Thank you for your tips. :) Maybe you can do more videos someday on monochrome gouache paintings too? And value studies? If you want. Hehe. XD

Hi Sofia, i love your two paintings. I wonder could you tell me how you manage to paint each consecutive layer, and yet not end up with any mixing on your paper when you are putting light paint over dark, and sometimes dark paint over light? Whenever I attempt this, the layer below where i am working on will reactivate and mix with the layer above. I practice fat over lean as that is what I heard a KZbinr say, but so far I always end up with colours mixing when I don't intend them to. You see, I am very new to gouache and that is a large part of my problem. I love how well you paint, you make it all look so easy. Thank you in advance for any guidance you can give me. Have a great week!

Hi! This is a great question and I’m seeing that a few comments are asking the same thing so I definitely think doing a video explanation will help! But essentially it comes down to water control and how much water you are using in the paint at each layer. Fat over lean is a good way of generally seeing it but it doesn’t really guide you with how much water to use. I can probably explain this better by showing it in a video though! 💕

Thank you for these tips! I do think I need to adjust my mindset when working with gouache to embracing the brushy, more expressive marks; in contrast to how I work with watercolor, which is lots of glazing layers. Can I ask how you avoid reactivating your previous layers of gouache? I always seem to end up reactivating the previous layers and mushing the paint around.😢

Thanks for watching! That’s a great question, I’m going to do a video on this as there are other people that have the same question and it’s probably easier to show, but essentially it’s about controlling the water content of your brush/paint and making sure your layer go from thin to thick. I’ll include more information on this in my next video 🫶🏻

Your art is beautiful! I would like to make a request: could you enable the audio track in your videos? I would love to watch them with dubbed narration as it would help me focus better on their technique rather than the subtitles I need to add to understand.

@sofiapavanmacias21 күн бұрын
Hmmm tbh i do it more as a aesthetic thing in my sketchbook and often after i’ve finished painting 😁 but i wonder if other artists find it useful?
