Jaxon is our German Shepherd that is featured first in this video. The training that Tom provided to me and my husband has been life altering!!! We have continued to work with Jax and the results we saw during the training ARE continuing. Before we left for New York (we live in Alabama), we tried to introduce our GSD to my parent''s GSD puppy. Jax went off on her. As soon as we got home, we introduced them again using Tom's training. She ended up going home with us that night (my Dad had to go in for surgery) and spent the next three days with us without incident! They played and got along SO WELL! His reactivity to people is almost non-existent. We were walking on a trail a few days ago and as we rounded a blind curve, encountered a large man going in the opposite direction (just a couple feet away). It startled me and it startled Jax. I worked hard to remain relaxed and told Jax to "Leave it." We continued our walk without missing a beat and without incident--unfathomable just two weeks ago. We honestly didn't know what we were going to do. We love our dog so much but couldn't be with family or friends when he was with us. Tom gave us hope and that hope only continues to grow. The 17 hour drive and cost of the 3-day training was worth every second and penny!!! We wear our NO BAD DOGS! gear proudly!!!

My heart is exploding in happiness for you guys! This is wonderful ❤️ Just started the video and reminds me of my German Shepard boy that currently caused me tennis elbow from his leash reactivity. He is over protective of our home and have a young daughter we already had an incident with a year ago. They are best friends now but we can never have her friends stay over, just to be safe. I heard you in the beginning that it is a decision between him and your family😢 This gives me hope seeing your comment. It's so easy to fall into so many of these behaviors! When my GSD was a puppy, I knew how important it was to build his confidence and not reward anxiety. But one day we were in a warehouse and he was NOT ok with the forklift. Without thinking, I got on his level and started trying to sooth him. Luckily, I was in that warehouse for training and the instructor called me out on it! So never feel bad when you realize you've done something wrong. Learn from the experience and adjust!

I feel for the lady with the Berner. My guy was a puller. I broke my wrist (not his fault 😂) and discovered the Easy Walk harness. It worked wonders! Instead of pulling me, it destabilized him. Once the wrist healed I used the flat collar. Wall-E is now a Service dog! Good luck to the dog owners in this video. You are in good hands ❤

I walk my 100 lb Dobes on a front correcting harness and 2 fingers. Love it. Joel Beckman's Rottweiler named Creed video for the foundation video for loose leash walking and reactivity. Proactive stops - you're not going anywhere until they're on your page. So many countries have outlawed prong collars and shock/ecollars. When you live in a country where can't use them....Like Steve Young and horses - pain is the worst motivator. Hope that helps.

I have a German shepherd and a 10mo puppy pit/rottie mix and my German is teaching my puppy bad things. We went camping this past weekend and left our German shepherd home with my mom to pupsit and took the puppy. She was so good after just a few corrections. I was so impressed! Thanks to Tom and his tools and tricks! Now to work on our German who is kinda set in her ways lol😊

I was dealing with pretty serious reactivity. No barking and very little jumping, but very intent lunge and snarl at every dog. I was already a pretty comfortable handler and staunchly non treat, but this was beyond me so I went down a rabbit hole of dog training, including strictly positive (to understand timing of food rewards). This channel was 60% of my learning material. My dog's reactivity is down from what it was by about 95%. She still freaks out seeing my father in law, but that is about it.

I have learn from Tom how to explain thing to my clients using more relatable examples. I suffer from PTSD and so I love training (problem) dogs or dogs with no real relationship with the owners, its the interaction with clients needed improvement. There are so many things to consider and so many variants when dealing with dogs that it’s not easy to identify what works for different dogs in different situations. Tom likes prong collars, he get good results from it, he understands its uses and how to teach using it. That doesn’t mean other tools or methods doesn’t work or are not effective. My experience living with dogs for so many years now tells me each case is different. It was only after 3 years I discovered/learned my female german shepard responds much better and is more relaxed using harness than slip lead or normal around the neck collar, or martingale, etc... It’s now easy and a pleasure to walk her. I would never thought about using a harness because we almost always see people using slip leads, prong collars, etc when dealing with a leash reactive dog. Anyway, no easy learning when dealing with dogs. What works for one dog might never work for others.

Thank you Tom for sharing this! It is helpful to see step by step what to do. You break it down, so I can understand what the steps are. I now have tools to practice with. We have had 3 dog trainers now, spent a lot of money and still our dog is very reactive towards other dogs, for I do not know what to do precisely in a situation where my dog wants to jump at another dog (or a cat). Hearing you say that training a dog is difficult, makes me feel less stupid, for not having succeeded in what we want from our dog, when we meet other animals on our walks. We have been taught to just run away from the situation. But after 10 weeks of training every day (obedience, heal, sit, stay etc), our daily walks are becoming a frustration, for I have to constantly avoid situations and turn away. (I honestly sometimes regret having adopted this dog from the shelter😢but I will never give up on her).

Thank you for your videos, practicing the inside turn has been massively helpful for my leash reactive greyhound x collie. I would also love to see a video of you working with a sighthound. Many people won't use slip leads on them because of their slim necks but I don't know if you can have as much success with a martingale.

I would love to get some training for my dog. She's a little older at 8, but still a coiled spring with some pull behind her. She listens for most things, has a fairly solid place, leave it, down, and sit, although our place is a little different because ours cues her to sit between my legs under whatever seat I'm using. Where we run into issues are with staying when i move out of sight, heeling, and recall, *especially* recall.

The gentle leader does make them accountable. On occasion I find the prong or the gentle leader to work with different dogs under the same stimulus. Hence the head halter does not always work, but it can be wonderful. Certainly with dog-dog aggression issues when one dog is the issue.

Yes 👏🏾 different tools, different uses, multipurpose, as long as used correctly & probably…. What works for my dog might not for your dog. Try multiple techniques, because there are multiple ways to get to a positive outcome especially when it’s life & death for so many dogs. I wished people would learn more about these tools & take their time to genuinely educate themselves. 🫶🏾♥️🐾

You mentioned in your bio to make requests on the latest vids, so here goes lol I've got a 2 y/o Dane/mastiff (spayed) and a 2 y/o English setter/American bulldog mix (intact), and I cannot keep them out of the trash to save my life! The bully seems like she could give a literal dam less about getting in trouble, and the Dane acts like I'm gonna beat the ever loving crap out of her if I raise my voice even a little (she's a rescue, so we've been working with her on her traumas). They wait until no one is looking to jump onto the counters and quickly raid whatever they can before someone catches them. They know good and well it's bad based off of how they behave once caught. PLEASE HELP ME DO BETTER!! They are super easy to train, I've already got them solid on hand commands with no voice at all. Them being in the mood to listen on the other hand..... yeah. They are super, and I mean SUPER protective of us and the property. That said, if a stranger comes, all I have to do is tell the dogs "it's ok" and walk the person in and they're fine. I have to keep on them to stay down and leave the poor person alone because suddenly they want to play with the new person, but yeah lol. My bully almost ate the internet guy today because I didn't walk him in and he just appeared in the house 😞

It amazes me how many people say that prong collars or e-collars are "cruel. They don't understand what they're talking about, and completlely discard the results they provide. And probably have never trained with a dog that is EXTREMLY reactive

Brong collars have been band in QLD Australia 2023 due to some dog owners improper use. I bought one while paying for a trainer, then after usining in and progressing well, they band them so now im back to square 1 🤔

Help! My dogs have been through all kinds of training and since the pandemic of course they've lost it. I just took them out this morning for the first time away from home on a 3-mile walk both had their prong collars on. Even with all the popping in the world they were pulling. It was so much work

Sounds like they were hyper aroused after not being out in the world, and you may be out of practice. I walk my two dogs in the East Bay Regional Parks 5 days a week and they get a pack walk with pro walkers and other dogs the other two days. Doing this every day kept me sane during the pandemic, and consistent with them. Do more, a little bit more, every day, and work on what you've been taught. I will say, it's hard to focus on two dogs at once, so I'd go with one at a time. BTW, if you need a trainer referral, I know an excellent, gifted one in Santa Rosa who is in line with everything Tom teaches on this channel.

I use a slip lead in a figure 8 like a head halti on my akita and she still.pulls like shit, i try doin the pops on the lead before she gets to far ahead and i also use turns to get her attention but doesn't work out of my hone, she also wont take treats out either, and in Australia prongs collars abd ecollars are illegal to import and some states also illegal to use

I have 2 dogs 70 and 50 lbs who have leash reactivity. Is it possible to break them from this behavior while walking together on a coupler? The bigger one will just freeze in place and breathe heavy while the other one gets so fixated and crazy that he tries to bite the other dog and got me once. I just started e collar training after failed star mark collar and gentle leader and 2 different trainers.

I'm not Tom, but when i was expecting my first child i had 2 very large and rambunctious dogs (newf/rottie cross and lab/dane cross). I bought a relatively realistic looking doll, and i put real diapers on it, baby powder, and swaddled it and walked around with it like a child playing house. I would change its diaper, pretend nursing or bottle feed, etc. Whenever i had the doll i started establishing a 3 foot radius no doggie zone. Then i would put the "child" down on the sofa, or floor, etc and reinforce that buffer zone. By the time we brought the baby home they were very respectful as we had established a good pattern. I woild allow them to sniff the child if I brought it to them, but not them approaching the infant. It worked a charm and they were really awesome and gentle with children.

My buddy Taz is a big old sweetheart and not aggressive at all but he doesn't even register the prong collar! 😢 he'll pull like he's in a harness and he's got a neck like a torso😅. My only gripe is of how effing annoying it is that strangers feel the need to chime in when they see the "DEATCH TRAP PUNNISHMENT COLLAR OF DEAAAATH"😂😂😂😐...I joke but I'm truly tired of having to explain it! 😮‍💨 and I'm too broke for an e-collar🫣😑 For the most part though, we've come a loooong way together!
