My granddaughter does her acrylic nails in her bedroom with no ventilation. The smell is all throughout the house. I told her and her mother I thought there could be health issues. They both assured me there would have to be long turn exposure. I can't imagine that chemical smell not being harmful. I have looked it up but have come across your vid to hopefully get answers. Would appreciate your knowledge!

I wouldn’t worry to much to be honest. She should just open the window. In a salon setting it’s different because that smell is being “produced” all day long, every day often by multiple people. The smell is strong when someone does their nails but it’s not actually harmful especially when they do it like for an hour, once every few weeks. I would be more concerned with her getting the monomer on her skin or using the mixture too wet (a very common mistake many make). That can lead to serious and life long allergies.

@@TheSalonLife that’s exactly how I used to do my nails before watching your video and tips which are a life saver for me. I did touch the skin around the nails with acrylic, neglecting if it was harmful or no. Since I’m a beginner I’ve only done my nails 4 times though. I hope I didn’t do a big damage lol

Am I fine if I breath it in for like an hour or two??? I’m just getting into doing MY nails 💅🏼 but my mom hates how strong the smell is. I usually don’t smell it, only when i first start doing them.
@TheSalonLife4 жыл бұрын
Yes you are. Just open a window or something. :). Most important thing that almost no one shows- make sure you don’t work too wet and that you don’t wipe (or touch) your skin with wet brush. Monomer (the liquid) should never touch skin. That’s begging for permanent allergies.

how do you keep your brush from getting hard/gunky after a session ??
@grapefruit70954 жыл бұрын
Julissa Velez you dip it in the monomer and clean it and make sure you don’t have any powder on it and shape the brush and let it sit facing up. if it got hard, just soak in acetone for a few hours.
@milkyway68124 жыл бұрын
@@grapefruit7095 don't put it facing up, because eof it has just a bit of powder in it it can ru in the brush and when you turn the brush upside down it can run out
@xo.hailieeee75194 жыл бұрын
grapefruit you only have to soak it in acetone for a couple mins and wipe it between minutes. (You can also put it back in some monomer to get it back in shape since the acetone can dry it out) And you shouldn’t leave the brush face up because extra monomer can leak and make your bristles fall out. Just some tips...
@Thetruthwillprevail2314 жыл бұрын
grapefruit if you use acetone and a pure Kosinski brush one time in the acetone you will dry the brush out to the point where you can not shape it anymore.

Hi, I was wondering if becoming a nail tech could lead to health issues. I want to do nails and become a full-time/part-time nail tech at home but I'm afraid, that the smell of monomer is harmful and could cause respiratory problems in the long term. I was thinking of getting an air purifier or filter but I'm afraid all it'll do is get rid of the smell and not the harmful chemicals behind it. Do you have any advice on that?
@TheSalonLife4 жыл бұрын
Please read books and follow Doug Schoon. He is a chemist and scientist. He also has a KZbin channel. The bottom line is that you can work safely if you have proper source capture (dust and VOCs). Look for something with additional carbon filter . Professional one, made for nails. They cost about 1000-2000$. Anything cheaper doesn’t work. I have Aerovex for my pedicures. Nova Flare for manicures (I don’t do enhancements, just natural nails) plus I have Dyson on top of it in the salon working 24/7.

Is it important to wear gloves?
@Jennifer.74 жыл бұрын
Yes. Over exposure to products can cause allergic reactions and/or contact dermatitis in the future. Unless you know for sure you won’t get any product on your skin then it’s not so important.
@TheSalonLife4 жыл бұрын
True but very often when shaping/filing a finished enhancement or doing a refill we create a dust. And that dust can contain uncured monomers (still reactive). L&P when mixed too wet or gel when applied too thick sometimes never fully cures. That over time can definitely lead to overexposure and permanent allergic reactions.
