You don’t have to be a US citizen. I joined when I was still a green card holder and got my citizenship after getting wounded from Iraq. Pres. Bush was personally at my oath taking to become a US Citizen at Bethesda Naval Hospital. Here how it happened: I got wounded in Iraq and I was already medevac to US. After going though my 5th surgery for my blown up shoulder. Some Naval officer came to my room and told me that there was a VIP coming to visit us in 2 days and asked me if I have any request. Since I am still groggy from meds and probably still high, I told him I have no idea and asked him what did the other wounded marines wish was. He told me, one wanted to meet Jennifer Aniston and one who has been a marine for 25 years asked for us citizenship. I didn’t think of it too seriously because I just wanted to be left alone with some morphine because I just had a bone graph. I told him that I myself is not yet a US citizen and it would make me feel complete US Marine if I become a citizen. He wrote that down and left. Quit calling Marines SOLDIERS!!! They are Marines NOT soldiers, soldiers are Army. Army is a branch of service that is part of military service just like the Navy, Air Force, etc. We are not all in the Army, we are all in the MILITARY.
@patrickfauver70115 жыл бұрын
Hello. I am a former US Marine. We are Soldiers. We are soldiers of the sea. We are not addressed as such but the fact remains true. We don't necessarily appreciate that fact either. That was taught to us by our DIs at PI. The Marine is the most ancient of specialized soldiers and the most ancient version of what we now call special forces. As a Marine I served with the US Army in the field on occasion. Right next to them. I could throw my MRE trash at them. As a Marine I have served on US Naval Vessels. As a Marine I have been transported and deployed by the USAF. So, while I would correct an observer who said I was a Soldier; they were partly (if not technically) correct. May I say that I appreciate your loyalty to the USMC and our name in any event...

One of the first things we were taught in Bootcamp was “If the Corps wanted you to have a umbrella they’d issue you one”. THEY DIDN’T. I watched Ms. Lucy Baines Johnson hold one over a Presidential Crew/Chief in 1968 in a torrential downpour on the White House lawn because she had brought one out to him and he explained to her he couldn’t, but thanked her. She stood there with him till the visitor returned and held that umbrella. His name was Cpl. James Bowling, Camden Ohio. She could give lessons to people on what a real LADY is!

Everything on the Marine Dress Blue uniform has some deeper meaning, symbolism or purpose beyond the obvious. For example, the collar is high and rigid, not as high as the old "leatherneck" collars which gave us the nickname, but in that style. There are 7 belt loops, for each of the 7 seas. There are 13 buttons, one for each of the colonies. The trousers and blouse are two different colors, representing the largest 2 oceans we have dominion over, the Atlantic and Pacific, and much much more....

Fact #51: The United States Marine Corps delayed their winning of the First World War until November 11, 1918. They knew that the day the "Great War" ended would inevitably become a major holiday with everyone being given the day off from work. By waiting until November 11 to defeat the Kaiser's forces they ensured that forever more, Marines would have that day off to nurse their hangovers after celebrating the Marine Corps Birthday the evening before.

Interesting, and funny, but is it true?

Lmao is that actually true

No it’s not. That decision was made by allied representatives and allied command. Not a single marine present or even involved in the negotiations.

And the United States did not sign a treaty with Germany until 1921 even though hostilities had ended.

Jarhead was the way to tell marines from other services. During my service, the Marine cap was like a jar versus others which were a ball cap style. Another great thing when marines move around base they march perfectly even by them self. They never spoke or broke formation. The extra 8 weeks of basic are incredible for discipline and parade. They basically get the full infantry school treatment and parade drilling. When I started basic training it was 8 weeks of training drills vs the marines 16 weeks. We had over half our starting company washout due to all kinds of stupid shit. What is true then maybe not today? Workout hard for a year before even thinking of talking to a recruiter. Don't get screwed either make sure you get and are prequalified for the MOS you will train to do, and make sure to do 2 years minimum. If you like tech, mechanics, outdoors, flying, something you can put on a resume or use in a tech or college degree. Save every dime and don't settle down when in the military get a vasectomy, as every base have young woman ready to lock you down then cheat when you're deployed. I saw many married young women cheat and vice verse. You are 18, 2 years your 20, 2 more your 22, it's a bad combo. Finish your time, then get a career get a good foundation and find a woman with a good foundation.

Uh yeah, no. I live near Quantico and uh, no Marines don't "march perfectly" by themselves.

@@michaelbritt2754 If you live by somewhere where Marines are and you see that they don’t do that then it literally means no they all don’t. I have also lived on a military base for the past few years, literally nobody in the military “marches” places unless they just joined…AKA boots.
@michaelbritt2754 Жыл бұрын
@@ethanchaney1139 Well I am a Marine so... When we walk, Marines walk in step no matter where they go. It's instilled into your brain to be disciplined and professional until drunkenness occurs 😏. I guess that's the older school, Marine Corps. But nobody knows that unless being a Marine. Also, what Marines can't be human either? It's a tough life defending freedom. Also it's tough for women to be with men who are warriors as well. But that is what separates them from others. Willing to risk their lives for others in order to maintain our way of life for this beautiful country.

> "Drill Sergeant" SERGEANT TRIGGERED
@rickrowell84654 жыл бұрын
In the Corp, it's not Drill Sergeant, it's Drill instructor! D.I.'s are normally Sergeants, but in a few exceptions (WW2 and Korea) have been Corporals. Corporals are NCO's or Non Commissioned Officers. Senior D.I.'s are Staff Non Commissioned Officers or Staff NCO's Staff Sergeants or Gunnery Sergeants usually. By the time you get to Master Sergeant, you've got a different MOS if you're still in the Corp.
