Seriously? “Georgia On My Mind” was adopted by the state as the official song, but it was not written about the state. Composer Hoagy Carmichael and lyricist Stuart Gorrell had never set foot in Georgia. If you listen carefully to the lyrics- “Other arms reach out to me, other eyes smile tenderly”- it’s pretty clear that it’s about a woman, not a state.
