Most of the things in these videos are totally natural to me and I don't consider myself a natural in food and cooking. It's just that my parents cooked every day and I helped and learned. I'm perplexed at how hard a time many of the people in these videos have with such basic tasks as cracking a nut.

The simplest way to do it is to just press a walnut against a table with one hand. Your hand might hurt after a couple dozen nuts though.

Joshua Bartlett I’m also from the US, but I’ve had chestnuts nearly every holiday season in my life in both states I’ve lived in. You’re right that they aren’t super common, but they’re in nearly every grocery store during November-December at minimum! Keep an eye out - they’re amazing roasted!
