I think the big thing is ceiling storage. You hang it from the “grab handles” on the the ceiling sides. I probably didn’t explain that well but they are really useful storage solutions. 🙂

I had dealt with the same issues at chain tire places with my 2015 impreza. The trick is to take the wheel and tire off the car and bring it in separately from the car. Then they can just put a matching tire on. Best place I've found to do this cheap is Walmart Supercenter's with the Auto Centers built in

A quick thought, I know your Subaru isn’t going to be around too much longer, but you might think about changing the bulbs inside your car to LED. They’re nice and bright and don’t draw much power. Pretty much any kind of bulb a car uses can be found in an LED version.

Oh, and I almost forgot to share my sketchy advice on tires! Find a Hispanic tire shop and go there for your flat repairs. They would have fixed the old tire or sold you an inexpensive used one and you’d have been on your way with some huge savings!

I am outfitting my minivan for camping with my cat. I love watching your channel and many others for inspiration. I was thinking that van life should be fairly inexpensive but holy cow it's not! I'm already out 2k for everything I think I'll need and I don't have a tire inflator yet, or a Jackery. Not to mention the cost of gas getting to all the fun places. The biggest expense of mine so far was the Rtic cooler and the weathertech window coverings. But all the little bitty things that add up...fans, lights, cargo nets, bed, flashlight, castille soap, collapsing wash basin, clips, magnets, camp chair, etc...surprised me how much it all cost. I feel bad for you that you had to buy new tires on a vehicle you aren't keeping. Total bummer.

12yr. Nomad here GiGi, hold off on buying all the gadgets & just get out there. Live & use your rig, that way you'll find out what you REALLY NEED. Believe me, LESS IS MORE! (On down the road you'll find that you're giving half of that high dollar "essential stuff" away because ur not using it & need the space.)

Since when do tire shops refuse to rotate tires based on condition? Repairing is another issue but rotation? That's one reason you do rotate them. If they were purchased through them and still under warranty mileage, you should have said "You're right, go ahead and replace them under the warranty agreement".

There is nothing unusual or inherently unsafe in buying just two new tires, provided the remaining two are safe to drive on. You should have insisted in just buying two, if that was your wish. I thought you said those tires were under warranty at Discount Tires. No pro-rated discount offered?

Tires on an all wheel drive vehicle must be within 2/32 give or take between the front and rear axle. If you get a new pair with say 10/32 and you have the other pair on the car with 2/32. You’d most likely ruin the transfer case before the car made it back to Michigan. So 2/32 is a safety concern for sure but for me it would be more of a mechanical concern. Also $500 for a set of tires these days isn’t horrible but that sure doesn’t mean it doesn’t sting.

It's an all wheel drive system, not a 4 wheel drive. Even if it were a 4 wheel drive system the difference in tread ware would not be a cause for concern, not even in your wildest dreams. Again, if your not an experienced 4 wheel drive mechanic, shut up, don't confuse the issue with your BS !

@@Ah022 At 66 yo, I've bought plenty of tires on both 2wd and 4wd vehicles, often getting just two with no such "advisories" and no issues. I've only been advised to getting both passenger and driver side tires to match, which makes sense. But then again, I've never driven to Michigan!

From owning Subaru myself I know it’s vital that all 4 tires have the same tread because of the “All Wheel Drive” it’s recommended but not a law. I would’ve just bought 2 used tires since you’re getting another car. Just my opinion that’s not worth anything. I know I wouldn’t have been too happy spending $500 on something I’m getting rid of soon just like you were. 😂

Ya, that tire company chain is famous for lying to their customers inorder to sell new UNNEEDED tires. I wanted them to remove a nail in one of my car tire's tread, not anywhere near the sidewall which is impossible to do, & the manager said " no, you need a new tire. We can't fix this." He was totally trying to scam & upsell me, because as a 20yr trucking veteran, I KNEW that tire was an easy fixable patch. ( I have nails & screws removed all the time & patched on my truck's big commercial tires. Then they can go for thousands of more miles.) I told the lying Discount Tire manager that it WAS a repairable problem, but he refused to patch it, & said again that I needed a new tire instead. I left & took it to a tiny m/pop tire shop & they immediately took it in & removed the nail & patched it; no questions asked & no upselling. I put several thousand more miles on that patched tire before I changed all 4 out for new ones; NOT AT DISCOUNT TIRE! These scam artists will never get my business again!

All wheel drive vehicles it’s recommended you replace all 4 tires at same time. I paid $400. At commercial tire for 4 tires for my forester.

2/32" of tread depth is a bald tire, it's not safe ( or legal ) to drive on. Watch your tires tire wear, it should not have snuck up on you. If you're going to live in a vehicle, on the road you have to pay attention to your vehicle, it's a serious matter, your safety depends on it !

Sorry to say the tire shop scammed you into 4 new tires. He should have done exactly what you told him to do. Replace 2 tires. Even if the tires were TOTALLY bald, he doesn't have the legal authority to stop from driving on them. He can ONLY make a remediation (on your receipt)

actually all manufacturers of AWD cars including subaru state that the changing of only 2 tires can causes a differential friction from front to back that can mess up your drive train. i dont think there was any discussion of legal authority mentioned in the video. that being said i have seen these vehicles with mismatched tires and would have to say those are usually not in the best condition.... when you depend on your vehicle you need to do things that you dont necessarily want to do for longevity and safety

I'll never go back to discount Tires... I bought 2 sets of tires at the same time, Summer and Winter. When they put the tires on they broke the tire pressure sensor on my at least one wheel and refused to fix it. Never again

4 new tires is honestly not a bad deal for $500 even if they're the cheapest ones, and AWD cars should have all 4 replaced at the same time. You could have gotten two but you dont know what you're gonna drive through within the next couple of months and 2 nearly bald tires you didn't replace would of been a bigger liability.

I watched the video yesterday and I've been doing business with Discount tire for almost 17 years now and so far they have been great for me at least where I live. I saw at least the one tire and it was pretty bald and I'm guessing the others are close it it as well. There's some people saying you got scammed and others saying buy used tires but for me I would never buy used ones cause you never know what they've been through. Anyways 6 years ago I had to buy new tires for my jeep and I spent around 800 bucks for new tires and that's just for 4 with installation and then I had to buy a new spare which was another 150 bucks so around 1000 bucks I spent on new tires. I know 500 bucks is expensive but for all 4 including mounting and balancing is not a bad deal considering that they are a lower profile tire which are a more expensive tire. I know this is a long post but I just want to say that I don't think you got scammed at all and you did the right thing in getting new tires especially in the current state that the country is in right now. I am sorry that you had to spend the money believe me I know how you feel. Take care. I'm sorry that you are having so many car troubles and I know that your transmission is on the fritz at least working for the time being from previous vids and I know you didn't want to spend the 500 bucks with the transmission acting up but at least you will be able to drive in the rain and stop quicker without getting into a wreck. I have a niece that's your age and I would have told her the same thing and worry just like an uncle would and should

This is typical discount tire strategy. Offer “free” tire repair, followed by scare tactic to convince you to buy a new tire/set of tires. Happened to me in flagstaff. I needed ONE tire, but wanted it to match the others (tire was irreparably damaged and I was over two hours from where matching tires were purchased). Discount tire would not even mount my spare, which had never seen the road, but was “out of date”, (surprisingly, they allowed me to mount the spare in their lot, but offered no help beyond use of their Jack which the truck was already on). Sad that their “free repair”, which could foster customer loyalty, was so alienating to me that to this day, 8 years later, I have no interest in doing business with them. Much of their position is driven by fear of legal liability and lawsuits. At least they will say that. Too bad you had to buy a new set when Ru is leaving you in a short while.my guess is that you, like me, will have a lingering “bad taste” in your mouth for Discount Tire, but your situation left you with few options.
