Those scopes look like they are twice as much as the rifle. Could you recommend a good budget optic for the Ruger Precision? I’m looking to pick up a Ruger, but don’t have the funds for a great optic. But of course I would still like to have some fun without breaking the bank.

I’m glad this rifle works for you....bought one new in the box, 10 different types of ammo, best group about 2 inches at 50yds, 6 inches at 100. Bullets wouldn’t feed without forcing, which was destroying accuracy. Mag rattled around in the chassis, stock felt cheap, just not pleased at all. Sold it a week later and purchased a CZ 457. My 3rd CZ. I like Ruger products, and own several, but this one missed the mark for me.

My longest shot with a 22lr Marlin Mountie using a Bushnell Banner scope set to 9X was 300 on a crow. My longest ever was 600 on a five gallon metal can. I hit it twice consecutively after 20 misses! The time delay was about 4.5 seconds! Great fun! Nice video. I was using Eley Club ammunition at 50 Pence a box in the 1970's.I stopped shooting crows at long range when I realised I might be just clipping the odd one. The most accurate ammo that I found for my RPR was RWS R50, it was better than Tenex. I replaced the barrel on RPR with a BSF carbon fiber barrel for about $400, now it shoots like a Voodoo 22, about $2000. I shoot five 5 shot groups with Lapua Midas plus, $18 per box, that averaged center to center 0.259 with the best group being 0.182. My best group ever with the BSF barrel was 0.089.

I weigh my CCI Standard velocity .22 LR rounds and sort to 0.1 grains. The bullet weight is what is so inconsistent with .22LR. The empty case weighs 9-10 grains, 1 grain of powder, and 40 grain bullet makes it weigh 50-51 grains. The bullets are made on many different molds and the bullets are mixed up before loading. The Lapua Midas Plus are pre weigh sorted so they do better on vertical consistency. The Ely Tennex are faster than Lapua Midas Plus but are also much more expensive. The Ely Tennex do better at 100 yards in my Winchester model 52 since they are faster and stabilize better where the Lapua Midas Plus perform better at 50 yards. I have had good success with CCI Standard Velocity weight sorted at 200-250 yards too.

Ya, I wish that was a thing. Nothing drives me crazier than spending $100 to buy a range of ammo trying to find the node on a new 22, only to find out the $25 box of ELEY was a complete waste of money! (don't get me wrong, it's not their ammo: it chronographs shockingly consistent, it's just none of my guns like it!) In truth though, I've been blessed that my 22s all like the cheep stuff well enough.

@@wilfdarr there are lots of different match ammo to try with low S.D. my Sako p94s range likes all match ammo. lapua center x is good and cheapest it likes is SK standard. 22LR ELR consistant loading is a must. My barrel likes to be cleaned right at 150 rounds. 8 rounds to Foul the barrel. Was shooting today after cleaning watched group tighten up at 7 rounds. I always burn 8 rounds. @100 yards was able to got through the complete KYL target. I have a 24" barrel even though anything longer then 20" will slow velocity down. I don't worry as much about velocity as Consistency. Happy plinking!
@wilfdarr
@wilfdarr 4 жыл бұрын
@@johngalt4769 Ya, velocity is only one component, and a smaller one than most people think: velocity is only a crutch for an inability to make wind calls d(don't get me wrong, I'm no Yoda, but I recognize my need to improve and not rely on velocity), so having a slower barrel is moot. But the longer barrel has a lower frequency, so nodes will be easier to find.

@@wilfdarr that's good to know. Must be why my long heavy barrel isn't picky on ammo. I've thought about cutting the 24" to 20" to gain a few fps. Figured out my own answer. Put max and min into ballistic program and 1032fps +/- 6 fps gives 1026fps=172.69 drop and 1038 fps = 169.76 (assuming BC used is valid) so vertical dispersion is at minimum 3 inches.

2 quarters, 4/16ths, etc, is precisely why I like mils. 😂 I'm not surprised at all that stingers weren't your best bet: when reloading other calibers, how often do you find a node at max pressure? That’s awesome Day at the range! I’m looking at picking up a prism for some really long stuff.

@@XRING I've never seen a prism setup for long range but I'll bet it will be nice. I'm still confused as to why vortex built 85 moa of windage and only put 85 moa of elevation into the 5-25-56 venom.

No idea on that question. Nightforce makes a prism as well as Charlie TARAC Taccom. Check them out.

That’s ok. We hit them out to 700 yards yesterday. 3 hits back to back.

He is going to trade mark it and then approach Ruger to put it on the box of the RPR guaranteeing 2/4 MOA.

Hey Renee, I appreciate your enthusiasm. That would be something to see on video. You should film that shot.
