I replaced the barrel on RPR with a BSF carbon fiber barrel for about $400, now it shoots like a Voodoo 22, about $2000. I weigh my CCI Standard velocity .22 LR rounds and sort to 0.1 grains. The bullet weight is what is so inconsistent with .22LR. The empty case weighs 9-10 grains, 1 grain of powder, and 40 grain bullet makes it weigh 50-51 grains. The bullets are made on many different molds and the bullets are mixed up before loading. The Lapua Midas Plus are pre weigh sorted so they do better on vertical consistency. The Ely Tennex are faster than Lapua Midas Plus but are also much more expensive. The Ely Tennex do better at 100 yards in my Winchester model 52 since they are faster and stabilize better where the Lapua Midas Plus perform better at 50 yards. I have had good success with CCI Standard Velocity weight sorted at 200-250 yards too.

Ya, I wish that was a thing. (don't get me wrong, it's not their ammo: it chronographs shockingly consistent, it's just none of my guns like it!) In truth though, I've been blessed that my 22s all like the cheep stuff well enough.
@johngalt47694 жыл бұрын
@@wilfdarr there are lots of different match ammo to try with low S.D. my Sako p94s range likes all match ammo. lapua center x is good and cheapest it likes is SK standard. 22LR ELR consistant loading is a must. I always burn 8 rounds. @100 yards was able to got through the complete KYL target. I have a 24" barrel even though anything longer then 20" will slow velocity down. I don't worry as much about velocity as Consistency. Happy plinking!
@wilfdarr4 жыл бұрын
@@johngalt4769 Ya, velocity is only one component, and a smaller one than most people think: velocity is only a crutch for an inability to make wind calls d(don't get me wrong, I'm no Yoda, but I recognize my need to improve and not rely on velocity), so having a slower barrel is moot. But the longer barrel has a lower frequency, so nodes will be easier to find.

@@wilfdarr that's good to know. Must be why my long heavy barrel isn't picky on ammo. I've thought about cutting the 24" to 20" to gain a few fps.
