Love the orange, it really pops. I used to have an orange DK General Lee 20 some years ago. My current Schwinn klunker is painted hammered black, I may need to change that....

I recently started an "urban klunker" build and it's easily one of the funnest bikes I've rode

Love the talk about gearing. I have a custom klunker with modern geo using 27.5 wheels 2.8 tires disc brakes and use it as my go to trail bike. I live in SW Colorado and my trails are rocky with some steep climbs. The bike is not an urban klunker but a real mountain bike so I use a 30x21 gear. That is one gorgeous bike.

I'm a short dude, any crank over 160mm is hard on my legs. I think 155 mm is perfect. In place of the single-sprocket freewheel, I've been putting 3 sprocket freewheels 16/19/22T if I can find a derailer hanger to fit the dropout. These freewheels fit without bending anything. I use a 5/6 speed derailer and put a longer screw in the High adjustment. I use a friction thumb shifter with an integrated cable stop on the shifter clamp bracket, I find the clamps on eBay the bigger clamps like the one I got for an aluminum BMX frame are more expensive about 50 bucks the small clamps you can find for around 15 bucks. We have some very steep hills even downtown where I live in New Mexico, some are so steep I have to get off and push, and even cars struggle to go up them. I'm building 2 BMX with 3-speed freewheels and I think my next project will be a rat cruiser. The biggest bike I can ride is 26 inches but I have to put the seat all the way down so I think I will look for a 24-inch it probably will fit me better.
@troytaylor191310 ай бұрын
The BMX lowrider I put a 3-speed sprocket in front 48t 38t and 33t, It had a 28t but the chain would not clear the derailer so I found a 33t chainring to fit it. It's kind of a Frankenstein showbike I'm building BMX with fenders, banana seat, and twisted chrome. It feels a little big compared to the other BMX because of the long 21.5-inch top tube but I can ride it.

Nothing better than an orange bike! I’m guessing the Rustoleum color is Real Orange? I have a SS 93 MTN bike using that color. The blue accents along with the chrome pulls it all together. A keeper for sure! Thanks for another informative bike video. Learning a lot from you

My 83 Schwinn Predator and all my previous Huffy and Murray BMX bikes came with 48/19 gearing. I always dropped down to a 14 or 12 rear. Great for speed but, hills, not so much. I both raced and road ramps with that gearing.

I just bought one of these old Schwinn and like someone else said I call them Hot Rod bikes, only paid $20, frame , forks and crank but rusted had so be fun restore and parts may not be all original not sure I want to put a lot not $ in it as may jus find a 26 inch donor bke. I was thinking black but that orange looks cool. I have a Hurry cranbrook ive chopped the fenders to give it a sportier hot rod bike look.

Real nice. Ashtabula made a 193 mm 1 piece crank. I have one. Great for hills. Yeah, its on a Schwinn, Continental one speed.

I love the idea and I have a 1977 Schwinn spitfire I keep thinking and daydreaming about buying cool stuff for, But I don’t think I would want to ride it as much as my other mountain bikes. I’m getting close though.

Blue/orange combo works very well 👏🏻 May I ask what’s the chainring? That’s very stylish also. I’ve got Transition Bikes Klunker from 2010s. I have bmx cranks and small gearing to gain ground clearance. But I’m considering to swift from mtb more towards cruiser, so that’s why I’m interested more elegant drive-train.

Whats up man.. I just bought a possible 1948 schwinn.. that has been repainted.. and the seat post clamp was also painted.. the clamp looked a bit twisted.. I tried to straighten it out.. but it cracked.. are those clamps welded to frame.. or are they removable? Should I try and grind it off smoot and get an after market clamp? Thanks ahead of time for your help..
@AstroVanTribe Жыл бұрын
It's rare for a Schwinn clamp to be welded, other frames of the era did do that - If it is welded it's going to just be a spot weld, find that and chisel or grind it away then tap the clamp off

girl gearing ... LMFAO!!! .. But if you are riding off road on tracks with a lot of rough terrain, you will be faster with the lower gearing.
