I like this. I actually want to use this as as a story trick for my wife possibly at our wedding and have it flow like "I thought my life was in order" at the beginning and then during the demonstration of mixing the cards have it go "but things can trip you up and life changes, throws you curve balls that switch up you choices." And then have her make the decisions for the switches after and end it with a cheesy "but when I met you, I knew we were a perfect match no matter how mixed up things get." Super cheesy and downvote me if you want but I like it XD

I think an option to solve the too perfect thing would be during the setup, you ask the viewer what percentage/number of correct matches would they consider to be amazing or impressive. That way as you are setting the other deck making your "prediction" you can tailor the amount of matches based on their answer. I'd also maybe make the errors earlier in the reveal, but save one for the 2nd or 3rd to last card so the final one you turn over has a slight dramatic effect.

You could pull off too perfect, it just need some prep, you do few tricks in the beginning and once you feel they're just enjoying the show and pretty convinced with everything you do, it'll get great reactions specially if you got some acting skills that suits your personality

Hi Asad, Just a note to say thanks for the great work you do. I personally really appreciate the straightforward mature/classy demonstrations over a hyped up bunch of graphics and reactions...those are fine to appreciate tricks/effects, but the way you walk us through the fundamentals really sets you apart as an instructor. Come to think of it, you're actually a lot like your Mint deck: simple, sneaky, classy, clever, and effective! Keep up the great work, and thanks again! MH

I think would give the option to my spectator if they wanted to do the “deal, switch” once, twice, or three times. This way, if they choose either once or thrice to deal them, their deck would be in the opposite order of the prediction deck. Then I’d have each of us deal our decks in a row going from opposite ends. As we deal them out, I get no matches until the very end when you can see that the cards match up perfectly. Does that make sense to anyone? Lol I think it would be a cool way to combat the “too perfect” theory

I do a version of this trick with Tarot cards. Except I don't touch the cards, my spectator executes all the card handling. When the spectator solely handles the deck over a 20 minute performance, the more perfect the better. "The magic is in the cards." As my spectator approaches, I do a false cut and place the deck in the middle of the table as they sit down. From then on, all the decisions and handling occurs in their hands. This is particularly effective at Hogwarts conventions. (:

I will use this trick by leaving the "future cards" in a random order and, in the end, i put a "prediction card" on the table and ask the person to deal the top card, which will correspond the theirs

This first trick I thought of that when you introduced me to the “too perfect” theory was Out of This World. I wonder if I should adjust the way I do it because of that theory.

I think a cool variation might be that you reverse one, so it seems like you completely screwed up and its not working, until the reveal in the end when everything lines up after all, just in reverse.

Cool trick, thanks! Are there any empirical studies that have tested the Too Perfect Theory? 30 spectators rate the first variation, 30 spectators rate the second variation, is there a relevant rating difference? Are there any empirical studies at all on the impression of magic tricks? I know of only one empirical study that examined whether children believed less in supernatural powers after an educational magic demonstration (they believed more).

is it possible to actually have your cards reversed and then as you lay them out it looks got them all wrong until the end when the stacks are exactly the same but reversed?

What if they notice that switch doesn't actually switch anything when dealing upside do, I think this only works on kids or people who ain't paying much attention or simply drunk

@@empathogen75 I've been doing magic for few years now, and you're mostly right, imo this one is all about when to do it, I'd start with good impressive ones where everyone is really focused and do this when I notice they're just enjoying and not focused to not get tricked

I don’t get it. The performance didn’t fool me at all. As soon as you said switch I was like “hm he’s just putting two cards down instead of one” this is too sketchy to perform unless you know the spectators is dumb or distracted. Sorry if that came off harsh but you don’t have to be a genius to see it
