very impressed with the little old 6.5 prc. I got a christian ridge line and have a luepold CDS on it. The custom dial makes those 1000 yard shots easy work. I have killed a black bear a 9 pointer and a 7 pointer and 3 razorback hogs. Im 14 and accuratly shoot my wetherby 300 wetherby mag but like you i dont love recoil, but can handle it. Shoots 1/2 moa with the 127 grain lrx from barnes that i handleload. Very impressed with the accuracy. I personally like barnes but im sure the percision hunter ammo is great but i like the barnes handloads of mine. Great info sir, thank you! and merry chrismas

Merry Christmas to you too. We've been super impressed with the 6.5 PRC and it's performance on game and at the range. No real reason for us to consider moving away from it any time soon.

I'll keep the OG of modern cartridges, the 6.5 creedmoor. It does everything that I need and then some. Not saying that the others aren't great cartridges, just that with the Ole creedmoor, less powder better barrel life and cheaper to load for.
@DeerandDonuts
@DeerandDonuts 6 ай бұрын
I can't argue that too much. Depending on your uses the creedmoor is super hard to beat!

I will keep the creedmoor due to already having it and price and availability of ammo

As a long time Virginia hunter, I've never had a deer kill, or shot past 200 yards. Most were under 100 yards. There is definitely a difference between Eastern and Western hunters.

Before I built my rifle I took a really hard look at both the 6.5 PRC and 6.5 Creedmoor. Due to 6.5 PRC not being a “true” short action and it having substantially more recoil, I decided on the 6.5 Creedmoor. Yes, the 6.5 PRC has better overall ballistics than the 6.5 Creedmoor, but it does at the expense of more recoil, cost, and also the 6.5 PRC ammunition and rifles are not as widespread. I shot a 300 Win. Mag. for the last 25 years and have learned that bigger is not always better. The noise and recoil of the 300 Win. Mag. is not as cool as it used to be. 🤣
@DeerandDonuts
@DeerandDonuts 4 күн бұрын
Haha couldn't imagine 25 years of 300 win mag. I think we can all agree either 6.5 will be substantially easier on your body after that.

The precision hunter loading is not the most affordable load, but it's worth it for me for a hunting cartridge when I figure that hornady provides a free, extremely accurate ballistic solver tailor made for that ammunition. I've had great results at reasonable hunting ranges

The king will always be the 6.5x55. The Creedmoor boys will never stack up enough game to catch up to it. I'm getting ready to buy a 6.5 prc. I would never use a creedmoor for the same reason I would never drive a Dodge Charger. It's the not the car that is a piece of s### it's the idiots driving them that has made it that way.

6.5 prc is the new king. Almost a perfect cartridge for whitetail, mule deer and even elk. None have better overall combination of energy, drop, BC, wind drift and recoil. Also its more inherantly accurate as the chamber has tighter tolerances.

I have a mossberg precision hunter in 6.5 prc and a ruger american predator in 6.5 creedmoor. The mossberg is by far the most accurate rifle I've ever shot and it makes long range shooting (750yards) much easier then almost any rifle ive ever shot. The 6.5 creed is also a very accurate rifle at long distance but its no as good as the mossberg
