Before I did my egr delete I sprayed seafoam's deep creep on all the bolts the night before, the morning of, and right before we started. Those two bolts at about 18 min mark literally loosened with one hand. That deep creep is absolutely amazing and I think you should try a bottle. Way better than WD-40.

ARod, I had this done a few years ago on my 2011 350, It took the dealer 6 months to clear up all the service engine light that kept coming back (they finally made it right). All I can say is you're the best!! I wish I was close enough to take advantage of your Knowledge and skills! By the way, I'm sure DT Ron gave you a smile and golf clap on this one! 😊 👏

Right after I got my 12' f350 it tossed this code, got to looking at the problem and decided to clean the cooler right on the truck, some purple power, and an aluminum tig rod, rodded down the tubes, rinsed the garbage out with water, and put back together except the exhaust tube, fired up the engine to blow out residual water, which was minimal, and finished the assembly. So, she was plugged up at 94k miles, I drove to 370k with no problem since. My truck was the victim of long idle hours, I'm sure that was the problem with the blockage.

Hey man, I love watching your videos on the Ford Diesels. Been binge watching your videos on these things here on my day off. I’m a former tech now service advisor at a GM dealership and honestly never really worked on any Fords. We always been oh that’s a ford blah but myself being younger than my counterparts, I do like to broaden my horizons on what I work on. I gotta say, watching your videos makes me be like well that ain’t too bad think I’ll tackle Fords on my side stuff. Heck, I’ve never owned a Ford and now I’m kinda thinking of getting a 05-07 6.0 to start! Like I said I love my GMs but dude you got my mind changed on how I think of the Fords! Stay safe man look forward to your next videos!

I Really admire your craft and patience. I just recently retired and I will have to unload my 1 owner F350 SD 90k mi, I honestly don't want to be dealing with these MAJOR repairs. I'm done, I'm going to a Tundra and not having to worry about this anymore. This scares the crap out of me. If I knew techs like yourself, I'd consider not unloading it however you have NO IDEA what I've dealt with these last few years, a Nightmare to say the least. All dealerships and techs I've dealt with, ALL take for a ride, they scare the day lights out of me, no crap. My trucks looks and drives like new, I maintain it myself due to these shops I've dealt with. I'd seriously drive and bring my truck to you I'd needed without and hesitation or concern, you seem trustworthy and I'd bring my truck to.you. thank you.

Well, I have just replaced my EGR cooler core. 2014 F-350 SWB SRW Platinum. I am still putting it back together and I wanted to take some notes while I am rewatching to make sure I don't forget anything. I unfortunately snapped the outboard EGR exhaust bolt (This is the one that usually snaps), and I got it part way out when it snapped. I used croil, and heat, working it back and forth, and it just finally let go. Tried welding a nut to the bolt, and it just wouldn't work, the titanium won't weld well with normal welding rod. And so I ended up overnighting a ProMaxx 6.7L EGR repair kit to drill and tap it out, from the good people at Freedom Racing Tool and Auto, LLC. IF you need a kit they overnight for about $60. BTW, very important: Buy spare drill bits for the larger sizes, just in case!! Especially if time is a factor. Drilling the titanium bolt is a lot like drilling a stainless bolt: you NEED slow RPMs, good steady pressure (but not too much, especially with the smallest bits, and with the largest bit. GO SLOW. You need to drill all the way to the depths that it calls for, or the threaded insert will not go in all the way. I also am using copper never seize (2000 F degree) on those damn bolts, And I am using a 2017 EGR cooler core. Next time the damn thing comes off, it will be a delete... !! Also, I can say I will be adding the CCV bypass/catch can (did you see the oil caking??), and a CP4 kit later this year (X-mas I think). So, anyone need a once-used EGR repair kit will a full set of new bits, and ofc the full set of once-used bits???

Update: Its back running, fired right up. I had disconnected my batteries, and while hooking them back up, the lights and flashers sort of went crazy for a second. Startled the crap out of me. Fired right up, no rough idle. During idling, as it warmed up it went to a high idle, no big deal. I tried to keep an eye on coolant levels, and I may have been a little slow keeping the secondary loop topped off. The interior display threw the orange wrench icon at me, I had a pending code of engine air inlet temp too warm, cleared it, went away. After a while, the orange wrench came back, no code. I can clear it with my OBD2 reader, but then the wrench comes back after a minute. I am wondering if, since the batts were disconnected for so long, that all the data and memory is gone, its resetting itself? Is it safe enough to drive? I didn't have any codes except the P0401 before.... any ideas? I found that a couple of my intake bolts were loose, tightened them. Double checked everything else, everything tight and where it is supposed to be

@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod Well, after I shut it off, I decided to chance it and I went and drove it around the block (6.5 miles is my country block lols), twice. NO WRENCH ICON. Remote started, 13 mile test drive A-OK. I will see how it goes, but looks good to me. MPG went up lols. My cooler insert was completely clogged. I also cleaned as much of the caked on oil/carbon from the intake manifold and ports as possible, vacuumed it all out. I will be doing the CCV kit and the CP04 kit later this year. Thanks ARod!! At 75,000 miles my 21014 truck needed this done. Also had death wobble that dealer couldn’t figure out. Local tire store said steering was worn out. They replaced all steering components and realignment. Next, DEF heater failed. Now it has an emissions issue and only goes 50 mph. It also says engine over heat if I go more than 5 mikes from my house. The truck has only 108,000 miles and can’t use it. What a piece of junk. I hate the truck and have been driving a 1984 GMC with a 12 valve mechanical pump Cummins. At least I understand the old technology. All this computer stuff really irritates me, especially Ford’s seat belt dinger!

My 2016 powerstroke has less than 37,000 miles and runs great! I do not have any DTCs to indicate reduced gas flow in the EGR, but I would like to do some preventative maintenance so I can be confident that when I am pulling my fifth wheel camper there is one less thing to be concerned with. What are your thoughts on replacing the egr cooler before a DTC occurs? Note that at least half of the total miles are winter driving in Fairbanks.

i had the P0401 code on my 2014 at about 116000 miles. ford couldn't schedule the repair in time for a trip, so i took it to a local, trusted, heavy diesel mechanic. He did the cleaning (flushing?) process, but didn't remove/replace the egr cooler canister. the engine has run fine, code free, for about 4000 miles since. Should i have the EGR repaired as you instruct anyhow? i have another long trip, with camper, coming up and don't want trouble. Your video was great! Thanks

My Brother-in-law had his EGR Cooler replaced, the tech at the dealership (a Ford dlr shop) broke that bolt to the manifold. They charged him $1,800 in labor to fix it! Is it normal to charge the customer if the dealership breaks the bolt! And, that is a hell of a lot of labor cost for that! Oh, it was a 2012 F350 6.7L with 22,000 miles on it!

Lucky13 Farm I don’t see many GM but Ford and Ram have bunches running with 100k plus and no issues. This is for some ranchers hauling trailers almost every mile and office commuters. I see some super heavy haulers and short trippers with issues and lots of company trucks no one ever turn off-idling trucks. Some dealers and shops push cooler cleaning services but it, for me, is too few with issues and I wait till they have a problem.

@@acerhillfarm4245 Yes these engines were designed to RUN especially with emission equipment intact. Idling, short trips, stop and go driving, etc. is not good. You'd better off towing 10k pound or more every day down the interstate then sitting in traffic or lobbing along.

Yeah it’s weird it’s a 2013 and it has 77,000 miles on it do you know what else it could be? You can hit the pedal and it’s like nothing really happens and if you hold it in the same spot in the power or acceleration catches up to it I don’t know house to describe it. But when they ran the code and gave this one that you have in your video. It says replace the EGR valve.?

I got a 2019 6.7 with 47k miles. Doesnt idle much but doesnt get driven on long trips or tow heavy loads. Most work it does is plow snow. The p0401 code appeared just before a major snow storm last winter, dealer ssid fine to use it. Well light went out on dash a day later. Since then it comes on every so often and goes out on its own after a couple of days. Do you think the cooler needs cleaned? Seems if it was plugged the light would stay on? Other than the dash light being on, truck runs excellent.
