The ballistic tip means they are designed to mushroom and dump energy, unlike a fmj... right? I think a different bullet in the 6.8 and 300 wm might have different results.

Bullet construction makes a huge difference in penetration. No matter how powerful the caliber is, if the construction of the bullet cant hande the power of the caliber it just disintegrates, just like all these did. Not a fair test of their true power. A fair test would to be use a mono bullet like barnes. Even a partition, a frame, terminal ascent in similiar to same weights would have done a lot better. You will see a big difference in the calibers performance in penetration with higher level penetration rounds.

I did a test similar to this with just the 308 and 300 win mag but I had handloaded 300 win with 150 gr fmj and 164 gr black tip and my 308 had the 24" heavy barrel so with 150 ish gr I was getting about high 2800 and low 2900 fps made it thru 2 didn't touch the 3rd and 300 win severely bulged the 3rd and the black tip cleared all 4

That 308 bullet shoulda been a ballistic tip or some kinda hunting bullet as well to be a fair comparison. If the 300 was a full metal jacket it probably woulda done better.
