Love the sound of those old school diesels. They’re way too quiet these days.

Same, on my truck if you’re cruising down hill at 45-50mph & give it just a little fuel, the sound it makes is so harmonic & sounds amazing. Most of the time when it driving my truck I just listen to the engine, I sometimes listen to the radio at HWY speeds cuz then it’s just going really fast & don’t get the beautiful sounds of a diesel.

My idi is way quieter than my last 7.3 powerstroke lol
@bldontmatter5319 Жыл бұрын
@@psd28 exhaust might've been tighter. The IDI engines don't need breathing to do what they do, because they're geared so low that they never really sing too loud either. The power stroke has 20-30% more HP and is gonna be paired to more gears, that are taller for more revs, and the exhaust is much more open to allow it to breath.

I got an idi in an 89 dump truck powerstroke in my rollback. They aint as strong as the newer trucks but still fun old engines to work on and tinker with and reliable.
@nicklikesradio2 жыл бұрын
Yeah. About those newer engines. Yes they got more power. But for how long? These older diesels are being pushed out to pasture because they are "old". Not because they're dead. Now look at ford's original 6.0 and 6.4 diesels. Those are already dying. The more hp/ torque you ask of a set displacement of engine, the less reliable and long lasting it tends to be. (Unless of course you do it by doubling the power by running it as a 2 stroke, like real Detroit diesels. Those are near indestructible)

@@southerngears4263 My truck is an 85 f150 with the inline 6 and 3.55 gears. Before it grenaded itself, the transmission that was in it originally had an overdrive so you could go 70 to 75 without it complaining. But now it has a T-18 instead. It's way way stronger than that old RTS 4 speed but unfortunately doesn't have overdrive. So you can't comfortably go past 55 because the 6 doesn't like to rev (at least in stock form). 65 is about as fast as you can go but it's turning 2500 rpm which it doesn't like very much.

@@bldontmatter5319 who the heck gave you that information? In Europe where the vast majority drive stick are taught by driving schools that you should never coast in neutral, never take corners in neutral because it can reduce control over the vehicle. In fact, you can be fined for coasting in neutral. The vehicle should always be in the correct gear for the correct situation. Coasting does NOT save on fuel consumption. If you have an accident while coasting your insurance company most likely will NOT pay. How do do they teach you Americans to drive stick? 😂 another thing that some people do.. coasting while going downhill.. it is downright dangerous and you’ll just wear out / overheat your brakes. Use the correct gear to get a steady/controlled downhill speed.

@@classicshoelaces1465 Im not talking about floating gears, only morons do that.
