Last night, my BP was dangerously high again: 189/106. I did the Pressure Perfect breathing for 13 minutes, which lowered my pressure to 156/89. This morning when I woke up, my BP was 164/91. I did the Pressure Perfect breathing for 13 minutes, and it lowered my BP to 131/89. I just started yesterday on BP medication as the numbers are so high, but my primary care doctor and I are hopeful that at some time in the future, with stress reduction, exercise, and dietary changes that I will eventually be able to come off. The Pressure Perfect exercises (which I have foolishly neglected in recent months until yesterday) will be an important part of my holistic regimen.

I have been spiking at 188/98 for a few hours and tried to get it down by laying down in the dark, breathing, and listening to soft music that is suppose to help bp. Still was at 188/98 after 30 min. Thank you so much for this. Im excited to see how it goes doing this regularly. I’m new to this so stopped the video to do some research first. I was expecting a brief intro or something. From what I gather from my ‘googling’ is that the exhale is extremely important. I didn’t notice during this video (maybe that’s the point?) but with this type of breathing exercise the exhale should increase over the period of the exercise. The sound helps us to do the long exhale (whereas without a tone to guide apparently its quite difficult to exhale for the recommended length). I found it took me a while to get into it. The tone stops before the next starts. What do you there?? Keep on breathing? (If so, why does the tone not continue??) or hold your breath? (Not a good idea I guess? lol) Some brief notes in the video description would be extremely helpful for those who stumble onto this vid.

First i do want to thank the creator because I am pretty healthy and amazingly nothing wrong health-wise. Pretty sure this exercise will help me immensely. My biggest problem and where I kind of lose power is, i dont sleep that well. My mind racing all over and I do need to focus. I tried breathing and counting to 10, shit never made it to 5 before some thought came into my mind and got me distracted. Have to say, I was on pain-meds for some time and I think sleep apnea is my problem. Never had a easy time with sleeping and now when I wake up, sometimes I dont feel rested or powerful to take on the day. I do stretching and moving to rock'n roll but it takes a while to get going. Not like before when I woke up and started hitting the day running. It also might be that I get older but doubt it. Seems like I am my worse enemy sometimes. I do find some bliss in sex but think its kind of overrated. But if I could control my sexual movements and when I get an orgasm, I think sex might work too. But I will give this video a go and put it into my fav. Thanks for the upload and I'll be back practicing.

Good restorative sleep is one of the most important essentials to keep healthy. The breathing exercises will put you into the Alpha state and help with falling asleep but if you have sleep apnea you'll wake up all the time. Keep up the good work - be well! Joel

Thanks Joe/ didn't think somebody would respond/ would have left the sex thing out. Dont have insurance jet and think my problem is in my head mostly. I will never give up Aloha (love) or hope that i will overcome most of my obstacles and come out good. I think somehow I do keep myself up at night with my mind going around and around. Got some problems on the "outer" world and always tried to go extreme/ all the way. To control what I cant, like leaving east Maui paradise and to go back to Germany and you know what they say about change. I am open to that what ever comes. I have also the tendency to go of track and even control when I speak and what to say. Trying a little bit praying and some exercise like keep my body in shape and to focus. My friend said if I would talk to a psychiatrist, he would pay me to shut up. But thanks for the upload of the 15 minutes breathing exercise it will do me good. That's why I put it into my fav. and I will do it. Ps. My girlfriend is coming in from the other side of the island and for a time being with her will help. Should you keep inhaling/exhaling until the line stops rising/falling or until the tone stops. I just started a couple of days ago but it seems like my heart rate increases and I can feel a stronger "thump" in the chest after I start this breathing exercise. Am I inhaling too deeply, or is that just a normal reaction to the exercise when first starting out?
@LowerMyPressure7 жыл бұрын
Hi Dennis: Follow the line and try to time the inhale/exhale so that you are breathing in one continuous motion and not holding your breath. The 6 BPM might be a bit too hard for you when first starting, it shouldn't be a chore to keep up. I would start with our 8 BPM or 10 BPM videos and see how you feel. You don't have to do the complete 15 minutes when starting, 10 minutes will provide you with the desired effect.
@dennismalkowski41327 жыл бұрын
So why do you advocate using continuous motion breathing as opposed to the triangular method where you breathe in, hold, and then breathe out?
@LowerMyPressure7 жыл бұрын
Slow and continuous emulates a relaxed breathing pattern, so it doesn't trigger the "fight or flight" response. Holding the breath (in some people) signals the brain that you might be under stress. Again it depends on the individual, but personally I don't have the same relaxation results with the triangular method.

I did the breathing exercise for the entire 15 min. At times, I felt like I was not doing it correctly. Do you do diaphragmatic belly breathing? I was inhaling and exhaling through my nose. I was trying to belly breathe. Does it matter where you sit while doing the exercises? I was at the kitchen table with my bop cuff on. I was wondering if I could sit in a comfortable chair and do it; then go to the kitchen table and take my pressure. The last question is how soon do you take your blood pressure after you do the exercise? I did it immediately. I must say that the exercise kept my pressure consist to my other readings from previous days. It’s still high but I know with practice, I can really lower it and get my medication reduced and ultimately eliminated. Thank you for all your help!
@LowerMyPressure6 жыл бұрын
Hi Lorraine. It really doesn't matter if you belly breath or not, it's the consistency of the breathing that matters the most. When you breathe slow and steady for at least 10 minutes (uninterrupted) your brain signals your body that it's not in "fight or flight." Your muscles will relax (especially the muscles around your blood vessels) and your blood will flow better and your blood pressure will reduce. It takes about three weeks or so of doing the exercises for your body to adapt to this lower stress level and to get a consistent lowering of your blood pressure. The exercises will also put your in the relaxed Alpha state and they are great to do when you are feeling stressed or anxious. I would wait about ten minutes or so for your BP to normalize before you take a BP reading after doing the exercises. We also have a free app for android devices if you prefer to do the exercise on a phone or tablet. The app also has an "audio only" version of the breathing program. Here's the link: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.app.lowermypressure Keep up the great work! Best, Joel

How long will the lowered hold. Will it rise again after one stops the exercise?
@Fidelis117 Жыл бұрын
In my experience (so please do your own investigation with this before just taking my word for it), this depends on how long you maintain this practice. I found this program after my doctor noted that my BP was 153/103. I'm overweight and don't eat right, so she gave me the option of making lifestyle changes to lower it before being diagnosed with high BP and starting medication. I bought a home BP monitor and began seeing what worked to lower it. When I used this program at first, my BP would drop from the 150s/90s to 130s/80s. After 10 minutes or so, it would return to the higher numbers. However, after doing this for a month, I noticed that my BP was starting lower (I record my BP twice a day using an app called "BP Journal: Blood Pressure Log"). It was starting in the 140s/80s and would lower to high 120s/low 80s. Still, after 10 minutes or so, it would return to the 140s/80s. I did this program every day, twice a day, for 3 months and eventually, my BP was in the low 120s/high 70s consistently. After the breathing, it would lower to 110 - 116/70s. Again, after 10 minutes or so it would return to the 120s/70s. Still, this was much better than where I was when I started so I was happy. I am now restarting the twice a day regimen after 4 months of not monitoring my BP or doing these breathing exercises as my BP is once again in the high 140s/90s. So, yes, it works if done consistently but (from my anecdotal experience) if you stop for a long period of time, it will return to the pressures you started with unless there is some other significant change. Again, this was just my experience. Your mileage may vary.

Have you determined which breath per minute option lowers BP most effectively? Specifically, I am comfortable both with the 8 BPM and 6 BPM videos, but wondered which is most effective long term (especially as the 6 BPM results in longer, deeper breaths--but less breaths overall during the program).
@LowerMyPressure Жыл бұрын
Personally I prefer 6 BPM but some people find it too slow. Anything under 10 BPM has a therapeutic effect, so 10,8, or 6 BPM are just fine.

When you get a chance it would be great to at a bio and more detail to your "about" page, so we can learn more about your medical background (whether lay or professional), what inspired you to start this great website, and also to include some of the research that shows the evidence-based benefit of your program (for example JAMA just published an article affirming the positive effects of this type of breathing with respect to lowering blood pressure).This information would make doctors (including mine) more receptive to sharing this excellent program with their patients; and their is certainly an evidence basis to back up your work. I breathe through my nose only, both inhaling and exhaling. What made this work for me is to breathe in at a very slow pace, and then MATCH that pace for the exhale. You are still following the tones for the timing, but you control the speed of your breathe. As you practice this more it becomes easier to slow down your pace. I have been doing this for almost two years, and I slow the playback speed to 75 percent, and I put the volume down, because I find that it is easier for me to relax. I feel that matching the pace of the inhale and exhale has had the biggest impact for me, and of coarse you need to be consistent and do it everyday.

Once per day is just fine but you may do the exercises whenever you feel the need to relax a bit. Our users have found that once or twice per day worked well for them. Doing the exercises more than twice per day did not lower the blood pressure any faster, but it did lead to better relaxation. Try to work up to at least 10 minutes of the breathing exercises for best results.

It does lower heart rate by relaxation but if you have a medical condition that causes a higher than normal heart rate you should be monitored by your doctor to make sure everything is okay. Can this Permanently bring your blood pressure back to normal if you’re using it up to three weeks

The short answer is no. If you mean doing the exercises for three weeks and then quitting the exercises once you have noticed a benefit, this will not work. You may maintain your gains by practicing the exercises 3-4 days a week but they must be done on a consistent basis if you want to keep your BP lower.

It's best to breathe through your nose if possible but breathing through your mouth is just fine too. I found that my mouth got too dry if I did the breathing exercises through my mouth only. For some people it's not possible to breathe through their nose because of allergies, deviated septum, etc. The most important part is trying to get at least ten minutes of uninterrupted time doing the breathing exercises. Consistency is the key and if you do the exercises every day you should do really well.

@LowerMyPressure8 жыл бұрын
It takes about 3-4 weeks for blood pressure to normalize with the breathing exercises. Spikes in pressure can come from so many factors but mostly diet and stress. I've found that sugar is even worse than salt when it comes to high BP. Low carb and low sugar is the way to go for lower BP. Keep up the great work on the breathing, hopefully this is just a temporary spike.

@LowerMyPressure8 жыл бұрын
Dianne LaVerne Here's what we found out about the squeeze balls. They do help in the first couple of weeks to bring down your BP faster than just breathing alone - but after about two weeks we saw no benefit over just using the breathing exercises alone. They do add some variety to the routine but don't really serve any benefit in the long run. You really need a much more strong and sustained grip to have any effect on BP. The Zona Plus device will do this but it's very expensive and doesn't work for everyone.
