On today's Unboxing, Elizabeth is back and it's time for more gem science experiments! Once again, we have a series of fantastic specimens, but this time we're going to destroy them...to show you 6 tests gemologists and geologists use to identify gems in the field. Learn how to fashion an octahedral fluorite with a hammer, what gemstone breaks like wood, and whether amber smells better than copal.

The chemical boundaries of the elements are fundamentally weaker than Nat & Elizabeth's engagement of education & knowledge 😃 Would it be possible for Elizabeth to provide a geological summarisation of events that produced mineralisation 🙂

I’m a rock hound, so any unusual rocks or crystals that I find, I’m going to pick up and place them aside for decoration or examination later. Needless to say, I am neither a gemologist nor a geologist so when you do a show on something that I may have or even a type of relationship to I’ll definitely have questions on. My one question today revolves around cleavage . I picked up an oblong black rock. The reason that I put it aside is that this is a very strong rock and it also has white stripes going down its longitude plane. You would think that this rock with its white lines would cleave along the black and white, but no matter how hard I may hit it, it will not break or cleave. Too bad that I can’t send a picture, but it basically has black about 1/8 to 1/10 inch thick, then it has a skinny white line and this process repeats through the width of the rock Any help with this would be appreciated.

I was wondering if mines stones can still grow! it seemed logical because you can of course grow your own gem stones. now I wonder what stones can be regrow in the right conditions with a none viable stone for sale or collection
