The concern with steel studs is thermal conductivity. Any heat in the space is transmitted to the studs which are attatched to the container roof panel; acting like a huge heat sink.

Thats why they are offset from the wall. 2 inches of insulation is already nothing to write home about, so I wouldnt expect a miracle from this build
@TheContainerGuyTV2 ай бұрын
@@kaptein1247 you should definite the insulation type when you say 2". Because I agree, 2" of fibreglass or open cell insulation is a joke. But 2" of closed cell foam that is thermally broken will vastly outperform a 2x6 wall with R28 fibreglass insulation.

What’s the best way to maximize interior living space in a single 40 ft container when it comes to framing walls for a living space such as a bed rooms .We Iive in Fl so we need a decent R value. We lost our home during hurricane Helene and have decided to build a small shipping container home Two 20ft high cubes on the bottom and two 40 ft high cubes on the top We will be doing all the work ourselves and I love your channel for all the information you provide to keep us from making stupid mistakes along our journey any information would be greatly appreciated keep up the good work.

1 5/8" steel studs or exterior framing would give you the maximum interior width.

I am about to build out a shipping container to use as a walk in cooler for our flower farm production. What type or thickness of spray foam do you recommend to get the r30 value? I’m buying a 20’ cube (struggling to find a high cube) and we plan to do a 10’ deep walk in. Any suggestions on door and interior dividing wall to consider?

Another great video, channing! your hard work is appreciated!! I have a quick question, if you spray foam the 3 INTERIOR sides, top and 2 sides, does spray foaming the EXTERIOR bottom give you a complete water seal? Im debating if i should spray foam the bottom of the can, or frame a small floor system that allows me to spray foam the inside. Just want to make sure i have a completely sealed envelope
@TheRpro692 ай бұрын
You put spray foam on the bottom of the container. Are you putting a bottom panels or something other to protect that foam on the bottom from the ground?
@crherniman2 ай бұрын
I've never seen the underside covered after spray foam. So I'm also interested.
@crherniman2 ай бұрын
I've never seen the underside of any container covered after spray foam was installed. So I'm also curious if this is even an option.
@TheContainerGuyTV2 ай бұрын
We apply spray foam directly to the ground under concrete slabs all the time so I'm not sure what it needs protection from. It's fine uncovered if it's not exposed to UV light.
@TheRpro692 ай бұрын
@@TheContainerGuyTV The ground is uneven, then the ground and rocks may damage the foam and then you are/or may lose R-value of the foam or lose spray foam.

I'm curious, do you have any container homes in California, and if so, how did they stand up to the wild fires. I would think because they are metal it wouldn't burn but not sure. Any pictures or video would be nice.
@TheContainerGuyTV27 күн бұрын
No, I'm in Canada and we don't build container homes. The undersides are bitumen coated which will light up the wood floor then they'll burn (if the undersides are exposed).
@gregorykadok335627 күн бұрын
@ oh ok, I thought maybe you had customers in California that have used your kits. Looks like a lot of homes burned from embers catching their roof on fire….i thought maybe with the container that wouldn’t happen.

Personally foam boards are good enough and you don’t need special tools to spray the foam in. Just a utility knife.
@CameronsCandorOriginal2 ай бұрын
Let's be real, though... spray foam SHOULD be cheaper, lol
@Dang_Near_Fed_Up2 ай бұрын
Not if you add the cost of labor to the insulation. Spray foam (when done by someone skilled) is fast and gives perfect coverage. Batten type insulation is labor intensive for installation, and never gives a perfect seal - you always have small gaps.
@GregLewisdually2 ай бұрын
Only thing I don't like about spray foam is a chemical and they used to use asbestos for insulation back in the old days and who knows in future 2050, 2060 and say if you used spray foam and got cancer, because everything causes cancer, because we live in a chemical environment?😮😢

I'm considering making a container house without studs or drywall, just foam texture final surface, perhaps with a bit of an arc pattern, and paint only if necessary. I will simply spray foam into place studs, ceiling joists and blocking where needed. Perhaps I could use a high density foam for the final coat and not have to paint it. What do you think of this idea? Thank you. I appreciate your videos.
@TheContainerGuyTV2 ай бұрын
Paint it with an intumescent coating for the fire barrier and you're good to go if you're okay with the appearance
