No thoughts on cleaning kids toys since I don't have kids. However, I do have one on the mesh bags. I put the belt for anything that has a removable belt (bathrobe) in one before putting it in the laundry. The belt gets clean and dry (I leave it in the bag when I put it in the dryer) but I don't have to spend ten minutes untangling the giant laundry knot the belt has created.

I use mesh laundry bags for traveling. I use one to pack my clean undergarments, have a spare for laundry items I will need to wash when I return home. I onlso use them for storing my Seguin evening Handbags, or any delicate items you don't want snagged. I also use them to store sets of curtain and valences in my linen closet, linen table clothes and linen napkins. Hope these ideas are helpful.

@mariakt24706 жыл бұрын
The socks tip is especially useful for baby socks as well as baby hats and bibs. You can use the mesh bags to pre-sort small items like that if you're doing combined family laundry too. It saves a ton of time in the long run. As for cleaning toys, I'd like to clean toys more often but my son is also playing with things like board books that don't clean up well. I do the best I can & try not to lose sleep over the rest of it.

Maria-Dawn Thornton The bibs! That tiny piece of Velcro rips up everything else in the wash so fast. I keep a mesh bag on the baby's hamper just for the bibs.

As a child care teacher for 4 years we would take toys the kids had in their mouths and wash with gentle dish soap at the end of each day and then a couple times a month I would fill a sink with a little bit of bleach let them sit for 20 min then wash again with hot water and soap then rinse completely with water. We had to do this to keep germs down with so many kids. Also because of this we really very rarely had kids out sick. At the end of each day we would vacuum sweep mop the floors and once a week or so we would put all the soft things like dress up clothes and stuffed toys in the wash on gentle with mild laundry soap. We also had a no shoe policy in our classrooms so that helped keep down from tracking in dirt and germs. A few times a year we would get the carpet shampooed. I taught kids 3 months to 3 years old before they moved next door to the big kid classroom. With my own personal kids I'm not as diligent. With their soft toys I would say get washed every few months. With their other toys if it's something that I saw go into the mouth often like a teether then I would wash it at the end of the day with warm soapy water. Once in a while I will give something a wipe down if I notice it looks dirty.

girl on my 1st baby i cleaned everything with cleaning clorox wipes. But by the second kid I was over it, they are going to put way worse stuff in their mouth than a toy that has been on the floor of your clean house. I have seen my son lick the pavement of the parking lot of the grocery store, because he wanted to know "what it tasted like"! Yes he got sick, and I reminded him why he was sick. Your kid will put weird stuff in their mouth, just know the human body can take anything.

I don't clean my kids toys, even when he's been sick. I wipe them off with vinegar when he gets food on them and make sure he didn't somehow get poo on any of them (in that case, I toss them if they're just hard to clean and I can't vinegar soak them) and that's it 😂

Hi, I never really cleaned my kid's toys when they were young, except for if they were sick or threw up on them. Then, depending on what type of toys they were, I'd pop them in the washer or wash them in the sink with detergent. One other use for mesh bags though....I bought a box full of used fake flowers for crafting, and they were quite dusty. I wasn't sure how to wash them as there were so many so, in the end I used a plastic laundry basket and washed them in that, outside in the yard. Afterwards, I used a mesh bag to hang them in on the line! It worked really well. Thanks so much for your ideas too. Pat

Pop plastic toys and teething rings, etc. in one of those mesh bags and lay it on the top rack in the dishwasher. Pop washable stuffed toys in one and toss in the washer. I never dried them in the dryer. Don't know how that will work. Also, Puppy became so real that he had to be washed by hand after a while. I usually washed the plush toys only if they had been through a puddle or puked on. The plastic ones got washed when anyone had a cold. My boy is 46 now and Puppy lives in a bin in our attic. Melissa, take joy in each day with your new arrival and he/she will still be a joy to you when he/she is 46 and has two teenagers of his/her own. Congratulations!

I didn’t clean my kids toys but they didn’t really get that gross because I didn’t allow food when they played and I was a nut about teaching them to wash their hands. If one of them was sick I would spray some rubbing alcohol to disinfect. Mostly eating time was at the dinner table and play time was elsewhere.

Kids love cleaning their own toys .. at least in my family kids love to play washing games were dolls go to ”the pool” (aka a bucket with warm water and shampoo) and also they love bringing toys when they take a bath. For stuffed animals my mom cleaned them every season change so at most 3 times a year. She simply popped them in the washing machine with a gentle cycle and a little bit of detergent. The only times she did a thorough clean of every single toy was when me or my brother had lice or some other contagious illnesses

Thanks much for the great mesh bag hacks! For the kiddos' toys, of course it depended on their ages, it, oral fixation vs 8-year olds' legos. IDEALLY (operative word here), toys that often ended up in kiddos' mouths got santinized weekly, & wiped down w hot, wet cloth when caught al dente. I have a Shark-type steam spray cleaner (which I LOVE) that I used to sanitize all the toys monthly. I've never washed legos unless they had an obvious spill that rendered them un-take-apart-able.

When I had toys that needed cleaned (mine are much older and don't do the toy thing lol) I washed when they got grimy, and if it was hard plastic and nothing that held water (like plastic animals or rubber ducky type toys) I'd fill the sink with hot water and a cap of bleach, soaked them, washed them and rinsed them, and put them on a towel on the counter to dry Stuffed animals I tied up in a pillow case, and washed like I would a load of laundry and put the entire tied up pillow case in the dryer Anything that couldn't be washed (like rubber ducky type toys) due to water staying inside no matter how long you let it dry. I'd just use a scrub brush or an old tooth brush with dish soap and scrubbed them that way, Held my finger over the hole and rinsed , sat on counter top to dry

Reusable produce bags!!! You can replace those disposable plastic produce bags with a laundry bag. I made mine from recycled fabric but a lot of people felt like they either have to invest in a new set or just keep using the plastic ones. But you can just use your laundry bags, they are lightweight and you can see the content. Bring them with you to the grocery store for loose vegetables and fruit, then you can wash them with your clothes when you are doing laundry,

Melissa, is there a mesh cleaning bag that you use with your microfibre cloths that helps stop broken microfibres getting into the waste water and onward to the lakes? Loved the video! So excited for you both as you get ready to welcome baby. Those mesh laundry bags are seriously priceless with a newborn in the house. I used them for newborn socks...not just to keep from having to dig them out of washer, but because they tend to get stuck in the inside seal of the front-loading machines and are still soaking wet at end of cycle. Also, reusable breast shields (breastfeeding pads) in a mesh bag for washing are a must!

We clean toys every time an illness comes through our house or after play dates. We wash bath toys at least once a month. I use the mesh bags and throw them in the dishwasher. Stuffed animals go in the washing machine on gentle cycle and I usually air dry.

I take those mesh bags to the grocery store and use them when buying produce. This eliminates the need to put the produce in a plastic bag.
