Split Pea Soup is one of those dishes that doesn’t necessarily look pretty, but what it lacks in aesthetic appeal it makes up for in explosive flavour. Here’s my simple take on how to make this classic with just a handful of ingredients and some pantry staples. If there’s one piece of advice that I can leave with you, it’s that the ham hock is non-negotiable. The ham hock really elevates this humble dish to new heights because of the added saltiness, smokiness, and general hammy goodness that it brings to the table. In my opinion, it’s undoubtedly the hero of this dish and without it, you’d just be drinking green sludgy water. I know, the truth hurts.

Hope you enjoy and happy eating,

At the end of each month, we'll vote on who made the best dish! I'm not quite sure at this point, but who knows, there might even be prizes?!
