Some people would call this recycling content. I call it revisiting the basics. I've studied a lot of things. Arts, skills, trades, academics, all kinds of shit. A medical professional has a desk reference book for a reason. Nobody stays perfect on their own forever. No one. I mentioned on the recent bench vid that my bench had been getting away from me. Reviewed the videos, did another bench day, and was able to reactivate a few things I had let go. So I think these revisits and reminders are invaluable. Luckily, my deadlift has been blowing up lately. Can't wait to test it in 4 weeks. I have been getting the "wrap the bar" cue much better, and I'm getting better lat activation, cleaner bar path, etc. Big thanks, man.

as someone who trains for weightlifting, that's literally the only way we are allowed to do deadlifts, meaning lowering it super slow and without making a noise. except maybe for the last rep where I usually drop the bar and then my coach screams at me :)

Thanks for another great video Brian, the conventional deadlift is one of my favorites lifts and I just hit a great PR (for me) on it. I just wanted to let you know, when you're feeling up to it, I would love to see a row cheat sheet video if you wanted to put one out there. Thanks for your time Brian, I appreciate all that you do for us beginners and otherwise for no cost at all, it truly feels genuine, maybe I'll get my hands on some stuff from the Loyal Brand at some point, looks great.

True story: 11:30 pm: I'm minding my own business and happen to stumble across a video promising heavier deadlifts in 6 minutes. The concept of the phantom deadlift negative (4:45) intrigues me. 11:37 pm: I tell my wife I'm going into the garage to check something out. 11:39 pm: I'm in the garage testing this with 135 on the bar to not get myself amped up so late 12:00 am: I'm wondering why 455 is on the bar and what mistakes I made this evening to get to this point. 12:02 am: Wife comes into the garage and is wondering what mistakes she made. Your videos inspire work. Can't get enough of them. (455's in the 95+% range of my 1rm, so to go out after a long day, having already done a hard workout and pull heavy makes for a promising deadlift tip)

Brian, I'm just starting my home gym and I can't decide if I should buy a good barbell and a few weights or make myself an axel and buy a bunch of plates. It's because the squat is my favorite lift and I don't know if try to squat an axel would hurt my performance. What do you think, man? Thanks from Brazil
@nohandle276 жыл бұрын
Moisés Gonçalves imho, as you are “just starting (your) home gym”, I would say barbell. Sure, with an axel you’ll develop some crazy grip strength, but I think you’ll end up sacrificing a lot on exercises like bench press, OHP, rows, etc. In other words, I think the barbell will allow better isolation. With a barbell, you can always throw on some Fat Gripz (recommended by Brian in one of his past videos) to get the “effect” of using an axel. Just my 2 cents, definitely interested in hearing what others have to say.

As your hips extend, your back stays in the same angle relative to the ground until the bar clears your knees, at which point you push your hips forward and stand up? Right?

How do you keep the bar in contact with your legs without ending up with super bloody shins? I always end up bleeding when I deadlift; but you don’t. What’s the secret there?
@nunyabizness6906 жыл бұрын
dustythejones dont keep the bar touching ur legs, just moving along the legs as close as possible without touching
@dustythejones6 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I will try that... I think keeping the bar close results in some accidental contact and may just be part of the game. Nevertheless, I will see what I can do!
@BlueCollarCombat946 жыл бұрын
dustythejones alan thrall has a video on this called "bloody shins are not cool" you should check out but the basic premis of the video is if your getting contact with your shins you're either pulling the bar back instead of straight up, starting with your hips too low, or you are trying to pull your shoulders back too early.
@dustythejones6 жыл бұрын
Brandon Jones thanks man. Funny, my brother is Brandon... I had seen that video before; I definitely need to rewatch it! Thanks for the tip!

Some heavy lifters low their hips to much and at the moment of the lift they lift up a little And that does mean theyre doing it wrong I thinks theyre just putting presure on the floor and pulling harder more like loading your body so you have lift the shit out of it

Why no sumo deadlift for strongman?
@BlueCollarCombat946 жыл бұрын
MXI tube alot of their deadlift events are a little higher than a barbell with normal plates so if they did sumo deadlifts the range of motion would be nill
@mxitube57726 жыл бұрын
Brandon Jones but than why is it allowed in powerlifting
@BlueCollarCombat946 жыл бұрын
MXI tube if you look at the barbell in the video its only a few inches above brians ankles. So if you sumo deadlift the bar still has to go a little ways but in strongman the implement can be set just a hair below their knees so it's significantly higher so if they sumo they're only actually moving the implement like an inch or too. Powerlifting can be pretty lax on allowing things that limit range of motion. Like big bench arches with super wide grips, super wide squats, and sumo deadlifts where as strongman is more lax on form such as allowing hitching in the deadlift. As long as It's up and locked out they dont care how it got there.

Men I don’t understand why I keep injuring my lower back doing deadlift I’m 6 ft 5 I was listening to people staring that the reason why my deadlift is weaker than my squat is because I don’t go low enough while squatting so I went back and literally go ATG for every rep... but it’s still bad. I did some deadlifts last night and injured myself doing 315... a rep range that I usually can rep at least 10 times... some days I can do it for 10 some days I can only do it for 1 what the hell is going on I need HELP!!!
@BlueCollarCombat946 жыл бұрын
ill smith it would be hard to tell without people seeing it. It could be any range of things from not bracing properly, hyper extending your lumbar spine at the top, lifting with a rounded back, or possibly starting with the barbell too far from you. I would just watch as many form videos as you can if you havent already and record yourself and compare. Alan thrall, brian, calgary barbell, barbell medicine, and starting strength are always good sources if you dont already watch them.

ill smith switch to a trap bar deadlift. Easy

@lIlIllIlIllIlllIllIIIIIIIIIlII6 жыл бұрын
ill smith not if you're lifting for yourself. If you're competing and have to use the conventional deadlift then yes don't do a trap bar deadlift Trap bar feels 1000x better and you can lift more. And I bet you won't fuck your lower back ever again
