Danny, I've been following you on KZbin for at least 5-6 years. Thank you for the continues education of orchid care. I had four pots of orchids before but none of them re-bloomed for years until I watched your videos. Now I got several more pots, and all of them look healthy. More importantly, they bloom every year! Some of the flowers could last up to five months. I really appreciate what you've put out there and made our life beautiful!

such good timing with this video. I repoted my orchid recently and noticed a bud yellowing. it's good to know that it's nothing too major to worry about. thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge!

Your comments about bud blast and moving orchids is right on. When I move my blooming orchids into the house from their growing location some times a few of the buds blast another thing I’ve noticed is buds starting to close in the house open up again in the growing area. I believe that’s due to the higher humidity. It’s really noticeable in our Michigan climate.

I just bought my first Phal a month or two ago. I decided to get one that was bone dry and had wrinkled leaves, but otherwise looked good, and knew a good drink would perk her up. But I still felt like such an earth goddess when all those wrinkles disappeared and the leaves perked up. 😂 A couple of tiiiiiiiny ungrown buds dried up and dropped off, but right now I've got an explosion of small buds growing, and I'm both super excited and nervous something will happen and they'll drop off. Either way, right now I love the fact that she's happy!

My son bought me some orchids for mother's day, one of them didn't make it the other one is a giant orchid, it has bigger flowers and bigger leaves. Anyway about November it started growing a flower stem and then I started seeing bugs about a month ago I've lost two buds so far the stem grew extra long and I'm waiting to see if the other buds at the tip of the stem are going to bloom. I know how to take care of orchids and I love the fact that they take forever but when they do Bloom they last for two to three months. My next orchid I want to be a purple one cuz the ones I have are pink 😊

Not sure if you'll see this or not as it is long after your original video. I have had issues with well established Phalenopsis orchids where they look healthy, started re-blooming, and then I've watered them and within days of doing so, all the buds have yellowed and dropped off. No other changes made - location and temp the same etc. This has consistently happened to me multiple times now, making me very gunshy about watering a flowering orchid. Do you have any suggestions of how to deal with this? Should I be watering them much less when they are flowering? Or watering them in a different way? Or watering small amounts more often? Is this a common issue?

Hi Danny, I need your help! with my onc. Aka baby raspberry chocolate (sharry baby relative) orchid. I bought one online that came severely root bound, and I spent hours removing old media but couldn’t avoid damage since the roots were so densely tangled. I then potted it into sphagnum (I put all my orchids in sphagnum due to my environment, even catts and vandas do well in it!). In a matter of days, all my “aka baby” roots were dead and I’m going to have to cut the flower spike. I got a new one in spike so I could experience the flowers, and I don’t want to kill the root system on this one too. What do you recommend? Should I remove less media to avoid the damage? Or maybe just leave the rootball and old media alone and pot up into a bigger pot? Or wait to repot until after flowering and risk the pests/diseases it potentially came with spreading? Thanks!!!

Hi Danny. Edgar from Ireland. My orchid have 2 main stems, each have 3-4 small stems, each small stem have 2-4 buds. There is any benefit of cut the small stems with buds to leave energy for the buds on the main 2 stems?

Hi Dani ! This is not about bud blast just a question about my phal and Oncidium sharry baby :) so my phal is growing a new leaf!! And I just noticed it’s actually growing two!!!! Is that normal?? I never heard you talk about that! And with the Onci Sharry bby it has a pseudo bulb not fully mature about as mature as you say to repot them - which I am about to do for the second time to trim the dead roots as you advised in one video idk the one ? anyways it’s growing another pusedobulb even tho the other one is not fully mature... is that normal??!! I think this means they like my home and the way I take care of them :) but I am not sure. Anyways I hope you are well thank you for teaching me everything I know you are truly the best!! Much love much love ! Oh yea and I just got a Miltoniopsis- they got it in potting soil (ONE INCH BARK ON TOP TO BE SNEAKY!!!) that poor baby has bud blast (worse even the flower stem is flat as a chewed straw) yellow leaves wrinkly psudeobulbs I think the roots are GONERS!!! idk if I can save her but ima try!!!!

I have a purple phal that behaves just like your "bad genetics" one. Every time it puts out a spike the first 5 to 8 buds always dry up, then the others 10-15 grow normal, BUT max. number of buds blooming is 5/6 at a time. When the 7th is opening, the first one that bloomed will dry up and fall and so on. It's frustrating, tbh 🤣

It happened to me too. Just on the purple ones...The white ones are soooo healthier. I don't know why.

Question: I know that when a orchid blooms, it take energy away from the plant and makes root growth slow down. If I feel that I need to focus more on the plant itself and make roots grow, is it ok to cut the blooming flower stem off while the blooms are still healthy?
@OrchideenamFenster3 жыл бұрын
I already did this with sick plants. If they need all the energy to survive, blooming is not hte best idea. Cut the spike, save the orchid and she will bloom for you another time.
@dhaliaseed3 жыл бұрын
Yes!! And if ppl tell you you will not get another flower stem - garden store or even plant shop ppl - they do not know what they are talking about do not listen! I cut the flower stems off my phal now it is growing TWO leaves for me - at the same time!!

Hi Danny! pandemic orchidist here. I've have a few orchids for a couple years they seem to keeping giving the precious babies! I used to mist them all the time but I stopped since you said don't spray the buds with anything. I recently listed a bunch of plants aroound them and I've lost about 8 buds now over 4 orchids. It's it possible misting with water is the poison causing blast on buds and blooms? THANKS! my rescue orchids owe their lives to you!!

Hi, water on buds can cause fungal spots and fungal infections in cultivation due to home environments. Best keep the water for the roots 😊

Hi Miss Orchid Girl! When is time to detach a baby Phalaenopsis from its Mama? I took some pictures of the orchid and would like to send you the pictures. So, you can give me your step- by- step directions and so you can see the physical health of both the Mama and baby orchid. The baby have been attached for almost two years now.

If you search KZbin for "when to remove a keiki from a mother plant" you will find many videos on it. The general rule is that the keiki roots need to be at least 3 inches long, and the keiki should have at least 2 to 3 leaves to be able to survive on its own. If it's been two years, I'd say it's totally fine to separate them.
