I know this is a very old video, but hopefully you or anyone else with knowledge can respond. How often can you use it? Since the arrival of my 2nd cat my resident one has stopped playing. He's completely focused on the new brother and will play with him, but the 2nd kitty is more of a loner unfortunately (apparently he was great in playing with littermates, not so much with non littermates. He prefers toys or sleeping). Sad thing: as a result kitty 1'll sit in a corner meowing or simply watching kitty 2 having fun with toys and looking sad. Unless... unless I use the valerian spray. I sprayed it on his favorite blanket today and he went nuts over it. Rolling in it, actively bunny kicking it, jumping etc... I see the old, enthusiastic and funny cat of merely 7 weeks ago. I think it would be great for him to do this more. Mentally and physically. He's already gaining weight too and I'd love for him to lose a bit of inhibition to do what he used to love doing: hunting, running, jumping... playing. With me or on his own. Or maybe he won't even mind if cat 2 jumps in (on the rare occasion that he paws at sth he'll stop immediately as soon as the new one arrives, and usually jumps in. Either because he wants to play with him, but usually because he'll lose interest or enthusiasm for whatever reason. That enthusiasm is there on Valerian spray regardless of nr2 (who, which I'll have to fix, is now afraid of the spray bottle and its scent because he sees his brother act like he's never seen before). Meaning I want to use it therapeutically. Since it never lasts longer than 5-10min I'd love to know how to prolong the effect and how often per week or even day you can use it without its losing effect. I'm hoping that at one point instinct will take over again and he won't need it anymore. But I'll take anything I can get for now if it makes him active and happy again - and less obsessed with his new brother. That'll make their relationship better too. It's good, considering they're both boys and from a different litter but the fact he's constantly forcing himself on the other kitten is straining it somewhat. It's the reason why kitty 2 can disappear for some time. I would too if I just said hi to someone and then got jumped. Or if I sought out warmth and company to sleep and... get jumped. Or when I have enough of this play, he won't stop, I growl and hiss. .. and he still doesn't stop. I have no way of stopping this weird almost obsessive behaviour, so redirecting that energy with valerian would be amazing (neither cat responds to catnip. I tried with different things. Catnip toys, dried nip from different sellers and countries. Nothing. Kitty 2 doesn't like valerian either, but he's not the one who needs incentive at all). Please, who knows?
