I don't like being hugged or hugging others until we get to a certain point in our relationship, whatever that may be. When I was in college, a friend would always give me a hug when I saw her and it always made me feel like she was crossing boundaries. When I explained this to her, she was really surprised because she thought that there was nothing wrong with greeting friends with hugs, even people she wasn't especially close to. At that time, she felt mostly like an acquaintance to me. After a couple years she was really a friend (at which point we were also roommates), and we actually didn't hug unless we were going our separate ways for breaks from school.

This made me want to share the most memorable hug I’ve had in my life so far. There was this time when all the stress I piled up crushed down on me and I hid away and cried at school, it took me a whole period to stop, but then when I was done and left my hiding spot my friend came from behind and hugged me, really tight, tears flowed down again. She never liked physical contact so the hug was extremely surprising, for a moment I felt pathetic, but then the next I felt warm and comfortable and everything would be alright. Soon a lot of my friends came and it became a group hug, we all just stood there and they hugged me while I cried some more. Now we’re in different countries and I miss them so much. Thank you for reminding me of this wonderful hug I shared with my wonderful friends I miss dearly.

I'm planning to try and get closer to her again, and i do have my ways on how to do that haha. firstly i have a book that she gave me back then and she told me I'd relate to the main character which i really do. i started reading the book again cause i never finished it, so i would give it back to her in hopes we could talk again. also the the same way i was close to her i was also close to her family. those people cared for me like i was their own daughter and i really love them for that. they even wanted to give me keys to their place. haha such lovely people. i still keep contact with her mom and im planning to meet her maybe in the next two weeks. When someone is hugging me it depends on who they are, if it's a friend or family member I either like the side hug or just a bear hug, but if it's a lover I want either a flirty hug or to be held close, both arms around me but holding my head to there chest, I call that the safety hug because it's the hug you see parents give a child to comfort them or make them feel safe (you see this mostly in horror movies or crime shows when a child gets reunited with a parent after something tramatic has happened)

There's another type of hug. I call it 'The Butterfly Hug' - When you hug yourself. . Wrap your arms around yourself in such a way that Your opposite hands will be on the opposite shoulders. this used to be me. Just high fiving or fistbumping my friends would make me feel nervous and confused. Even just a hand brush or any other contact in general would have me wondering about it the entire day. in HS I made friends who liked to hug and link arms in the halls which I wasn't at all used to. It was a little uncomfortable but I also liked it at the same time. I had been trying to put myself out there and get out of my comfort zone, so I went along with it: giving hugs everyday we see each other and arm linking in the halls. Two years later, I'm much more comfortable with contact, and I even hug my guy friends on occasion. (tho I mostly do that 'dap up' greeting guys have...they actually briefly hold hands at the end of the 'dap up' handshake/slap) It can be a bit scary at first since the contact feels a bit vulnerable..but it also feels vulnerable for those around u too. it will ultimately bring you closer (unless you or a friend _really_ don't like contact...then set that boundary).

I became a Master Mama Bear Hugger, lol, when I taught preschool and elementary school. Current and Former students would visit me and ACTUALLY request a hug, usually if they were having a bad day or stressful moment. They'd say, "School Mom, can I have a BIG hug? I really need it." No one was ever turned away. It was one of my favorite EXTRA teacher requirements. i was waiting for another type of hug... the one you share with someone with indescribable need of physical contact and chemistry, when you just grab the person and hug/squeeze them real strong as if you wanted to melt into them and them into you. Whenever I had really bad days, breakdowns, would cry, etc. my best friend would do those really long hugs and 9/10 I would forget why I was sad. I never wanted to let go, I appreciate her for those :)
