BlueHuck the Auto helps dramatically, and the motor’s internals aren’t stock. A built 4g63 by a good builder can make a 1000 low 9 second passes with a solid tune.

Talon rolls the lights a lot. I get it's a small displacement engine with a big turbo and he needs to spool, but in any other world he'd be called on a jump.

He is brake stalling to make the converter stall up. That's why it seems he is spoiling it it's more so for the trans. Once it heats up that's when it starts to grab and it does heat up in some races and he starts inching forward. But by looking at the reflection of the light on the cars and road , i think they both was sleeping in the last run. The 500 just woke up sooner

digging up old thread, but if you don't stage an AWD launch right by slipping the clutch you run the risk of blowing your transmission. So those small rolls are considered staging, a lot of professional drag cars do that as well, you can even see tons of them lurching forward violently while a trans-break is engaged before the tree lands on green and in 90% of the drag strips I see, a car lurching forward, and albeit yes, gaining a few inches early isn't considered a jump if it's a stage. it's just an unfortunate drawback of having power

He didn't jump a single time. sometimes the car creeps a little if there isn't enough heat in the brakes, other than that, the races that it looks like jumped, the people were just sleeping

***** Umm if your car can't hold the line while trying to build boost then it needs a trans brake. You roll the light you loose, plain and simple, no bs "my car won't hold" crap. No turbo car worth it's salt tries to race seriously while only foot braking. Unless you don't give a shit about red lighting and everyone is there to worship your cool ride.

***** It is hard for a turbo car to not blow through the brake when trying to hold the car on the line and build boost. I don't know if they make them for those transmissions but what he needs is a transbrake. I personally think any turbo car that drag races should always have a transbrake, unless you are leaving off idle to aid in traction. That of course wouldn't be the case here, he is AWD and no where near the power level where power management becomes an issue. I have seen some older cars such as Novas and Chevelles that had disc brakes run dual calipers in the rear to help hold the car when footbraking. I guess that is an option if you want to forego the transbrake.

***** Seems like most of the imports do not have strong auto options. The Supras are switching from their 6-speeds to TH400s. Can't go wrong there. I think a DSM able to release a transbrake similar to a clutch drop coupled with the smooth delivery seen in this video would be a deadly combo.

James T Kirk I have a DSM auto and at first when I got it I had trouble keeping it at a dead stop but if you use the e-brake and foot break you can usually keep it at a stop or a very minimal roll, its a little hard to focus on doing everything all at once at first but you get used to it after a while, plus its a smooth transition like you stated

The DSM was already rolling at 1:25 and the light didnt come on until around 1:27. Not trying to argue Its just a fact that he did jump that one time at least. Ok so for all you saying the DSM jumped in the mustang race, if you look in between the cars you will see the light flash before both cars ever go and it looks as if the Mustang jumped first if anything..

The auto transmissions in then have pretty much no options to hold them back. There is some tricks you can do, but he obviously didn't try them yet. So when it gets up to launch rpm, and converter gets tight, it wants to go.

I watch'ed this a few times if you watch for the flash of the light he is right on the jump he's just got it down pat, besides he pulled those cars by a lot not sure if a rematch would help, that mustang was spraying a lot to beat that talon, if he didn't have spray it would have been no match at all! but a win is a win good job!
