Thanks for this. Usually I hate KZbin guitar videos because I really can't make a tone judgment. But in this case the tone difference were clear and in the end I opted for a company I had never heard of - Topanga. And once I discovered them I opted for the Topanga Burnside for an extra $10. And the fact that I lived in Portland, OR for over 40 years was an added bonus. Also thanks for doing more than just surf tones, since I mostly play blues. Anyway thanks again for this video!

I'm going to get the Helix stomp for everything but the Reverb. From this list, I'm still on board to get an Oceans 11. It has drip and more. Thanks to Ryan for reviews like this!

That's a great demo. Fun to hear the differences, some really nice ones and some that are surprisingly not-so-great. The EHX Ocean's 12 has tone knobs for brightness and also adjustments for the spring size and modulation, one just has to get in there if it's sounding too bright or hearing digital trails. It's very adjustable. Spring-wise in a pedal, I think they do a great job. I know the Ocean's 11 has tone adjustment too, I don't know if it's as extensive as the 12. I love it. Makes me write cool surf music. Inspiring sounds from it. The other cool thing is you can double click on the spring setting and get a spring kick as one would on a real spring tank. I only buy reverb pedals that can do a convincing spring tone. The other reverbs are nice too. While I have an older Fender Showman which has a real spring tank in it, I run the Ocean's 12 through the back of a Marshall Plexi...dirty surf music sound. Love it.

Hey Ryan, thanks so much for doing this, true public service! How about giving us your opinion and conclusions as well? For me, the original 6g15, followed closely by the Surfy Bear are by far the best of the bunch. The only emulation i liked was the True Spring and, for a very vanilla but highly versatile version, the Tre-Verb, somewhat. Surprised how digital the tail on the Oceans 11 sounded and how vanilla the Super Swell sounded as well, given the hype surrounding it. Would love to hear your personal findings, though.

The Fender tank sounded the best to me (no shocker there, it’s THE sound we’re testing the others against here), however the True Spring easily wins second place by being 95% as good as the real thing. Oddly enough, the Surfy Bear was noticeably harsh compared to the Fender and frankly didn’t sound as good as the True Spring. And I still don’t know how you make the Oceans 11 sound that good. The one I had didn’t do what you can make yours do. I’m also surprised by how bad most of the boutique offerings are when it comes to spring emulation. Wampler and Anasounds and a few others were just plain bad compared to the True Spring or even the Oceans 11. Yikes.
