Those Buffalo carp are called Mick Jagger carp where I come from. They're distinguishable by their lips. Catching them gives you some Satisfaction and a sort of Emotional Rescue.

I use something similar ice fishing called a jaw jacker. Works awesome.

We actually own about 10 of those because they work that well. If you are using more than one rod, you need one of these rod holders/self hook setters. They do work.

I used them automatic rod holders a few times. Pretty good, but only for calm waters and 5-7 ft rods only.

I bought a couple after watching this but haven't tried them yet. Seems like they would miss a lot of fish, but then again maybe I miss a lot of fish because I don't pick up the pole in time. So from reading a couple of comments here I've learned they work on short poles, in calm waters and not well with circle hooks. Thinking of trying them with small treble hooks and dough baits.

Haven't used a net in over twenty years. I've had others net my fish but most of the time I have lip grippers or if it's a bass I just grab it by the mouth.

You can catch nice smallies using a ribbon tail white grub. Put procure trophy bass, and you're good to go.
