We are professionals. Don't try this at home. ;)
As many of you know I rarely wear a bee suit because I'm a big boy and I get hot really easily. The danger of injury or sickness from bee stings pales in comparison to health problems I could potentially encounter due to dehydration, heat exhaustion or heat stroke. So for all the commenters who will beg for me to wear protection I say don't worry about it. Just enjoy the videos. Keep the eye rolling to a minimum though. I'd hate for you to get dizzy and hurt yourself.
This job was at one of Greg Dunn's friend's house, Mr. Ken. Mr. Ken contacted Greg about his honey bee problem and Greg contacted me. I invited Greg along to participate and for his trouble he got to keep the bees and all the honey, of which there was quite a lot of both. This colony was incredibly healthy and the honey was superb. They had serious attitude though and were pretty tough to deal with. They were mean from start to finish. Greg and I were the main ones doing the work so we took the brunt of the impact from all those pissed off honey bees. As you'll see at the end we both survived and were only a little worse for wear.
The treat for me in this whole thing was getting to tour the Simply Dunn Honey house and testing the latest batch of creamed honey. Currently Greg sells locally around Hatttiesburg, MS but I'll bet for the right price he'd ship if anyone was interested. You can see his label and contact info near the end of the video.

@BYERE
@BYERE 3 жыл бұрын
@@cbass2755 Oh heck yea. I totally agree on that. Bees are essential to nature's and, in turn, our survival. I admit, my fear is nowhere near as bad as it was when I was a kid... I've learned a lot over the years, and bees don't bug me (no pun intended) as much anymore, and I even find them quite cute. Wasps can still go die in a fire for all I care, but I know they're just as essential to the planet as decomposers, helping to get rid of rotting stuff like dead animals and plants. I just wouldn't want to be anywhere close to a nest, even if it's a breed of bees that I know don't/aren't able to sting me. It's the buzzing sound that always gets to me.

I find it quite incredible that the bees will move straight into a hive and actually quew up to get in. I know very little about bees and most certainly would not make a good bee keeper, it really must take a great deal of presence of mind to know just what they will do. I find it very interesting when yoy can watch someone who knows what they are doing, and equally as interesting as to just how much real hard work the bees will do to get into a space they like, when it comes to work i think they take the prize Thank you very much for an interesting video.

I'm probably anthropomorphizing those bees too much, but I can't help but feel that part of why they were so aggressive was because they had lived so long and so peacefully in their secure little kingdom, that having their walls torn open by giants was a far bigger shock to them than it is to a more typical colony. If bees have adrenal glands, then their glands would have excreted all over themselves, hence the hyper-reaction. ..Or maybe this particular bloodline of bees is just a bunch of aggro cranky-pants. Idk, man.

You often talk about pounds of bees. The closest I ever want to be near a bee is honey in a jar from the store. So, out of severe inexperience and wanton ignorance, could you ballpark how many bees make up a pound? ....and thank you a million times for all you and your fellow beekeepers do to help save our bees! 🐝🐝🐝

No way you would be able to face a hive, no matter the size, here in Brazil without protective suit. This time, when the bees get out of the hole and look for your face and head I though that you had finally find a hive of africanized bees before your explanation and all. We're in the fall here in south america (Araraquara-SP) and facing a lot of attacks from errant swarms looking for a place for a new hive and I see how difficult is for firemen to save agressive bees. Often they only option is to terminate the hive. Your job is amazing, we need a DirtRooster around here. Hoping that 2020 is a full year of whole new captures and that bee keeping continue to be a "way of life".

The queen must be right there somewhere... It seems to me that they're trying to keep the young warm and alive. ... Yep. "I think I see eggs. Yeah I see eggs and larvae." You broke right into the nursery! -No wonder they're testy! That hive just went on and on, didn't it?!

Honey bees aren't looking to bother any humans, they're just minding their own business. Nobody will ever want a hive of bed bugs in their back yard!

Bedbugs are a nightmare. My stepdaughter brought them into our house from her dad's house. Cost us about 2k to fix it.
