I have since 1989 bent my rod set in a 45° groove to a matching 45° whereby my rod angle could be adjusted while welding without breaking arc. I do that without thinking as it's become second nature in my craft.

On something like this you got to use the right size 6010 or 6011 or 7018 and that makes all the difference in the world when putting in a root or other passes.

I always grind my roots on the stick especially if I'm testing out somewhere, it's to easy with the stick to have a slag inclusion.

what is the size of the gap for 6010 root?
@BryceSena8052 жыл бұрын
@@ericawuah4306 It’s whatever you prefer, the industry standard is anywhere from 3/32 to 1/8 but some people like it even tighter, like 1/16. Depends on how hot you like to run your root as well, the tighter the gap the hotter you go.
@ericawuah43062 жыл бұрын
using 2.5 electrode to creat root gap is the same as 3/32 gap?

Are all 6g test uphill root ? Or is it personal preference to do root uphill ? Or is this a fail proof way to pass the xray?
@BryceSena8052 жыл бұрын
Usually it will be specified when you test, but an easy way to determine if you should go uphill or downhill on the root depends on the pipe thickness, schedule 40 or thinner is best downhill and anything thicker than schedule 40 is best uphill. Just my 2 cents don’t quote me on that 🤣✌🏽

My instructor told me that if he seen me holding the whip with two hands again he would knock me out. So I held the cable with my offhand. I like to manouve with both hands, have since developed the hand to hand prop for most stuff.
