Who Tee Who I love your videos, you are genuinely an honest and enthusiastic in every thing you do. The 7.62x39 is a fantastic round, born out of war and makes a great hunting caliber out to 175-200 yards. I have a friend that hunts with this caliber and I sighted his rifle in at 25 yards, dead on. This gives a point-blank range (PBR) out to 220 yards. Do a drop chart using your info in the video, but zero at 25 yards and you will be pleasantly surprised to see that the difference in climb and drop out to 200 yards, does not exceed 3 inches. This is great for sighting in the rifle and never having to worry about hold over out to 200 yards. Place the crosshairs on the vitals and shoot. You should do a video to prove this, because hunting with this caliber is cheap which allows for more practice.

Primary Arms has some in-house branded scopes and red dots that utilize what they call the ACSS reticle. This is a simplified aiming reticle that has bullet drop and wind drift compensation out to 500 yards for 7.62x39 or .300 Blackout. The red dot version I have only has dots to go out to 450 yards and uses a horseshoe type reticle that is more useful for short range shooting, out to 200 yards I'd say. Both the variable 1-6x scope and 30mm red dot were not terribly expensive and the ACSS reticle was worth it for both, it takes alot of guess work out of shooting at range with 7.62x39mm. I highly recommend both for use with this round, they are solid optics and work as designed.

Oh gosh thank you so much for this video! I’ve had my Ruger x39 for a year now and hunted with it a lot. I purposely only hunted to where I wouldn’t have a shot longer than 100 yards because my rifle was zeroed at 100 yards. I did not know what it would do at 50 yards and I sure didn’t know what it would do at 200. Now I am more confident in using this rifle at longer ranges. 6 inches of drop at 200 yards is easy to compensate. If you’re aiming a white tail you have roughly 12 inches of a kill zone. I would compensate by aiming at the back bone of the deer and the bullet should punch in right in the middle of the shoulder. Awesome video my man’

@@fiveowaf454 yep. Though i think people say the round is not accurate because they are linking it with an ak-47 rifle. The rifle may not have the finest of accuracy. But that doesn't mean the round is inaccurate. Some folks just don't see the whole picture. Good thing the rest of us do😉👍

This demonstration shows two very useful factoids. 1. The cartridge will group reliably (with a proper rifle, don't expect this from an issue SKS or Ak47) at ranges of two hundred yards or more. As usual, groups grow with range to target. 2. "Calculations" are useful and reliable. Of course, they are only as good as the information entered. So, the folks who cannot get reliable information from such are those who are rather sloppy with their input information or refuse to read instructions. Good work, Who. You are far more intelligent than you pretend.

Quite enough to take deer. I load the cartridge with a 150 grain bullet (use .303 British bullets) up to about 2250 fps in MY rifle. In effect, a bolt action .30-30. Easy to carry through the woods, will take a deer.

I use a ballistic calculator (I use Vortex's) and make a DOPE card, and affix to the inside of the lens caps. I go to the range with and validate the ballistic calculator at 50, 100 and 200 yards. It's always within an inch. FWIW, I zero my 7.62x39 rifles at 100 yards, and drop at 200 yards is ~6 consistently. Works like a champ. Great round, great rifles (SKS, Mini-30, Ruger American, etc.).

Sight in for 195 yards (3" high at 100). This gives you a 220 yard point blank range. A deep pops out at 50 yards you hold dead center. A deer pops out at 200 yards, you hold dead center. No guessing out to 225 yards. At max range the energy has dropped below the 1000 ft-lb threshold. So, it's a dead on hold to max PBR at which point the bullet drops below PBR and energy at the same time. It doesn't get any simpler than that. Thanks for the vid.

Another thing basically the bullet hits the ground the same time as if it were dropped at muzzle height. The speed of the bullet and how much it slows while traveling or its Balistic coefficient down range is where you get your drop, a fast bullet like a 22-250 drops about the same as a .22lr in time, the difference is the .22-250 has moved 4000 feet in 1 sec where the .22 lr only moved 1000 feet in 1 sec. 7.62 x 39 was my favorite target round. I was also impressed by how accurate a $79 SKS was right out of the crate. Well I did strip it and clean the cosmoline off of it. @txrick48792 жыл бұрын
The SKS has a real way to mount a scope the cover with mounts is not it you must get the saddle mount where you drill and tap the receiver and it worked well for me . Shell defector needed so they don't beat the scope up . Remove ammo well and you use clips . Real accuracy is good .

I never expect anything from this rifle, but I can try 30 (sorry 20, new laws) times in a few seconds. Keep in mind that your particular rifle/scope might shoot differently. Video shows a high mounted scope similar to how most set up an AR15. A 100 yard zero with 7.62x39 (123gr, 2350fps, .28bc, 2.6" scope height over bore) is actually hitting zero @ 70 yards, skimming just high, and falling back through @ 100. It will be 1 mil low (~8")@ 200m or 6" @ 200 yards. After that, it's falling like a brick and bleeding velocity fast (around 2' drop at 300). If the scope were mounted more traditionally and an inch lower, the zero would be 40/100 with the impact slightly higher between and a couple inches lower at 200. Don't know why he entered 1.5" scope height in his ballistic chart. Fun caliber for hunting inside 200m though.

I saw Academy had 520 round cases of this ammo for $200 last night. Blew my mind, I knew this round existed but at that price, I was caught off guard. Really got me contemplating buying one.

If a hunter doesn't understand bullet drop, then they really shouldn't be doing that.

Awesome video. I have a ton of 7.62x39 ammo and definitely wouldn’t mind picking up a bolt action rifle for that caliber.

I guarantee it is not a dead hold at 150. That would mean your 9 inches of drop occur between 150 and 200. You probably have a 4 inch holdover at 150. 9 power is way more than you need to shoot 200 yards. All that out of the way, thats an impressive little rig. I dont really like medium power rifle cartridges because they cant reach out effectively, but for a brush gun/whitetail rig 7.62x39 is probably perfect. Slow bullets expand a little differently and tend to dump energy just as well as 308 or something similar. Cool video. I would recomwnd throwing an nx8 1x10 on that rig. Something with a holdover grid. You can really dial that little rifle in with a scope like that.

I take many wild hogs with my Yugoslav SKS in that caliber, keep my shoots under 150m (around 160yards). With your excelent presentation you just confirmed how efective 7.62 x 39 can be in adequeate firearm. Other thing I find 9X scope more than enough for that caliber, on my SKS I was have 4X32 fixed scope and use it very effectively.

That Ruger American Ranch in 7.62x39 has become my favorite bolt action rifle. Is accurate with even cheap ammo. I also use a 3x9 scope and this rifle will definitely take deer at up to 200 yrds. I zeroed mine for a 50/200 because of the range I go to and use 154gr Tula.

Nice video, great information. I shoot the (formerly) cheap stuff with mine and it's been right on even with a cheap scope. I'm a short range plinker

I believe the Russians sawed off the Russian Moisan bullets for the cheap Wolf, Brown Bear, and Silver Bear ammo. I have weighed bullets, powder, and cases and the inaccuracies of this type of ammo mainly come from the differing diameters of the bullets which measured .306" to .316". All other measurements were close to being the same from shell to shell. Warning: It may not be safe shooting Wolf ammo in .308" diameter barrels so be sure and check what your rifle's barrel diameter is before shooting them. The Ruger Ranch rifles were built with a forcing cone chamber to handle larger diameter bullets allowing them to be shot. And finally, if you have a quality rifle that actually shoots well it might not be worth the small price savings realized using the bi-metal jacketed Russian shells where steel is used in the jacket construction which increases barrel wear. I always enjoy your videos, thanks.

You should try a 25 yard zero with the x39, it puts you right on again at 200 yards with only a 3.5" rise at 100 yards, but the better part is that at 300 yards drop is only about 14". Effectively, your hold overs become much easier at 300 if you ever think you'll make a kill shot at that distance.
@dbmail5453 жыл бұрын
I regulate everything but rimfires at 200 yards. 7.62x39 is reasonably flat at that range, about 1mil (4") high at 100. Hard to get shots over 200 here in North Florida.
@lowerspeedhigherdrag Жыл бұрын
So what that sounds like to me is a 25 yard zero gives you a battle zero our to 200. Which where I hunt is more than I will ever get

Try Zero at 150 yards, give you a .2 high at 50, 1 inch high at 100, dead on at 150, 3.1 inch low at 200, still in kill zone ... fyi, big fan!

I had the cz 527 carbine in 7.62×39 . Was deadly on coyotes easily to 1100 yards! Impressed a few fellow hunters who witnessed the little rifle in the right hands! They were using 204 rugers and 22-250 Remingtons . Their trajectories were flatter , but I was ex- military . Also a long range shooting since a teenager! Practice has its merit!

As an experienced bow hunter ill chime in here. It's about kinetic energy ( speed and weight of the projectile). And shot placement. I don't care what your shooting, if you can't place the shot I'd never take you out. I haven't lost a Northern Ontario whitetail with my sks yet. And none of them have gone more than 50 yards.

My favorite rifle is a garage built ak with an fn chrome lined barrel. Sighted in at 120 yards dead on. 50 is 1 inch low at 270 it's a slight hold over. Love the round.

Great video Whoo_Tee. The iron sights on the SKS and AK were "battle zeroed" to hit at ~300 meters, and all infantry had to do was aim for the belt buckle to score a torso hit from 0-300 meters, which falls right in line with your data.
