Im autistic and everybody would rather yell at me than help me...like my neurodivergency is such a bother to them. Because of my speech apraxia, i find it hard to communicate certain things and everybody calls me "dumb," "stupid," and, my personal favorite, "What the hell is wrong with you?!" I have a Masters Degree in Social Work and I got almost all As. Im no dummy. Thank you for educating the public. ❤️

I have all of those to some extent. One that's really different (maybe due to previous abuse) is that I've blocked nearly all sensation of being physically touched, so I don't notice it most of the time. I've learned to dissociate from my body when it's being violated, and any other touch simply doesn't register.

When I was a girl I used to obsessively put my fingers together on each of my hands and smell them repeatedly,one hand at a time.I have no idea why I did it,but it used to freak out my mom.She would yell at me to stop when I did it,so I don't do that anymore.

Please read my comment 🙏🏻. My son turned 3years on june 19th. On june 9 doctor tell us he has autism as he can’t speak and don’t even react to his own name and always running around and climbing on and doctors tell us he has to go through the therapy for upto three years to 18 years of age. I gave my son a Himalaya medicine named MENTAT and in two months he can speak ABC and one to ten and understand everything. Now He tells what he want to eat and what colour straw he wants to drink. He have 10 picture books and he can tell everything in books. I’m trying my best to explain him everything so he can speak sentences when he go to the doctor for his next appointment on October 10. I tell everyone about that because i want every kid healthy and every parent happy and stress free😊. Also this medicine has no side effect. I started giving him 2nd bottle two days ago after one and half months of first bottle as i can’t find it in canada and i had to order it online from india. May Waheguru ji(God) Bless Everyone 🙏🏻😇

My name is Werner Nell Strydom. I live in Melkbostrand, South Africa. I am 43 years old and have displayed all of the described signs for as long as I can remember. I have no social life and am cut of from the world. I have been told that I have no emotional intelligence and cannot read a room or people. I was told that I am arrogant and selfish. Perhaps I am and I deeply regret that. I can no longer interact with people on a face to face basis. Thank you for shedding light on what may possibly be manifesting within me.

@wemerstrydom5895 Your reply made me laugh. Everything you described about you is me - except, I’m 73 & was formally diagnosed as autistic last year - along with a son age 39. We now form a great team - we laugh at the neuro-typicals, my wife, his mother & his siblings . . our kids. Also my wife of 40 years who is neuro-typical has stayed the distance & has always guided my ‘silly’ ideas or thoughts. Right from meeting her in 1970s she has made suggestions about meeting her parents, friends . . anybody. Apparently I’ve lacked empathy & lots of social skills. From New Zealand just carry on be yourself. Arohanui Ockie Simmonds

My daughter just got diagnosed last December - ASD ( she was 2yrs 9 months) Hearing that me or my wife could be autistic too - will actually make me more happier. I just know that she could make it too like live a normal life, have a regular job like me and my wife and could live by herself when we are gone.

*THANK YOU for a very CONCISE, METHODICAL, BULLET POINT* presentation of the facts. So many channels are unfortunately monotone, "stream of consciousness" and not organized, which badly triggers my ADHD. My mind goes down the rabbit hole and I can't stay focused. This was excellent and very helpful. Thank you! 😊

I was diagnosed at 30, also in 2020, but I had been suspecting I was on the spectrum around ten years before. I told my psychiatrist back then, but she told me that I wasn't autistic, that those people were severely affected. The same professional diagnosed me and told me she was sorry for not having diagnosed me earlier. A diagnosis has allowed me to understand past experiences, and myself, of course, and it has given me access to an autism association where I get the help I need.

In my country getting my son's ADHD diagnosis was so so so hard! And adults won't be tested or even believed if they are in the spectrum. We fight every school and every teacher to adjust his curriculum 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️ I know it's not the same but so happy you could get tested as an adult and get the answers you needed. I think my son takes on me but I'll never know 😢

I remember watching you many years ago when you gave birth to your second daughter. Haven't watched you since then (I had to leave KZbin for a while) until now. I've thought of you and for family a lot but could not for the life of me remember your channel's name. So glad I found you again. I watched you before I got my own diagnosis of ASD back in 2018 (I was 29 when it was finally confirmed by a neuropsychologist). I didn't realize that you were also on the spectrum, but I guess you were diagnosed later in life like me. I'm glad that you've finally gotten your diagnosis and I pray that God blesses you with new knowledge of who you are and how He created you. ASD is a struggle, but it also has its blessings (or at least I feel it does).

Yes, please do more vlogs like this one. It’s so totally beyond helpful to have someone explain myself and my childhood/adulthood to me. Now, since discovering videos about autism and being able to watch them, I’m understanding myself and my life so much more than ever before. I’m amazed at how so many things are making sense now that I could never fully understand about myself and my life before the videos. In a very weird way, you are helping me immensely to feel so much more “normal” than I ever have before. Thank you so much for sharing these things and helping me and others like us gain some clarity and get a better handle on our lives.

We got him tested and sure enough he is. I want to thank you so much for sharing it in a positive but informative way. It has made navigating it so much easier for us as a family. My MIL told us she is autistic and struggles with ARFID. I have a hunch we have more of us on the spectrum and your channel has been a huge help! I also enjoy your christmas videos every year when you find cool ideas for stockings and gifts that I wouldn't think of.

The autistic kids point is such a good one! I never suspected i was autistic (been diagnosed with anxiety, depression, & cptsd but never took therapy any further than that) until I suspected my child was. Then, of course, i was researching the subject like crazy and came across an article that made my entire childhood make sense for the first time in my life. Now, I'm wanting to seek a diagnosis for myself because I'm almost certain that I'm on the spectrum as well.

I totally relate to what you said about self-employment! I tried it a couple years back thinking that it would reduce my stress, but the lack of structure quickly made me fall apart. In fact that was one of the things that prompted me to get assessed myself (at age 40). By the way, you remind me SO much of one of my sisters who I've been assuming all this time is NT. I guess I shouldn't assume. 😅I'm an expert at hiding my struggles and who knows, she might have struggles that she's hiding too.

Thank you for the information, I see a lot of these things in myself. However, I am always confused because there seems to be a big overlap betwee signs for autism and signs that you are an introvert or hypersensitive. I always wonder what distiguishes one or the other.
@OurLANDingCrew8
@OurLANDingCrew8 Жыл бұрын
There's a lot of overlap with autism and other disorders/diagnoses so I completely get your point. I had a friend who was a non-neurodivergent introvert and while she came across more shy, she also thrived off of being around others and wasn't okay just being alone. The social category is way more than just a few things though!!!

I prefer being alone most of the time. When I focus on something (writing, working, cleaning, anything that has my attention), I tend to lose recognition of time and it's nearly impossible for me to stop til it's done. I tend to get high doses of anxiety when changes are involved. It could be a small thing or something bigger, but the result is the same. Even meeting new people, online or in person, often makes me anxious. When I force myself to go to a party or an event, I have this strong need to be there early so I can pick a (lonely) spot from which I can watch everything, preferably with my back against a wall. When I find myself (on rare occasions) with a group of people, I'm always the "weird" one. Maybe I'm just nuts and/or paranoid.

I was diagnosed when I was 23years old with High Functioning Autism. I’m about to be 27 on July 16th. It’s so hard to make friends because no one understands me. Instead I get called a baby or a 5 year old child. It hurts me to my heart to the point where I can’t trust people or won’t let anyone get to know me because it’s always a problem. Everytime i try to start a conversation with people they blow me off. I shut down at that point. I start to feel embarrassed and say why do I even try.

I'm in the UK and I was placed on the asperger spectrum at the age of 40 which is 4 years ago this year. I had an amazing Doctor who bless her had to work in my brain because I'm also bi polar 2 and high end anxiety. We sat down and we talked and talked questions were asked to see the range on the spectrum and then my whole life at last made sense and why I was like I was and it was the start of accepting me . And everything your saying about touch , sounds , anti social, stiming and so much more inbetween finally it all made sense and there was a reason I am who I am and had so many questions were answered and I'll always be grateful for my doctor who took the time to help and understand it wasn't easy but without her I would have still be none the wiser of what was causing me to be like I am and I'm so thankful for that. I was diagnosed at 48, that was just over one year ago. Some people still feels that it is not true, or just a label, etc. After all, I'm successful professionally, have a family, can talk quite a lot, etc. However, people don't understand the internal struggles that we go through. I always knew that I was different, but was not sure why. How does one person find Math easy, but is not capable of drawing a basic stick figure? Why you can understand a business model in 2 minutes, but take hours to learn how to peel a potato. Since I got my diagnosis, my life's journey makes so much more sense. It was such a relief! Some people don't accept that I'm autistic, while others accept me being autistic, but refuse to believe that it is so difficult for me to do very simple things.

I learned I was autistic through my children! I will never have a formal diagnosis because doctors in my area do not test males and females differently. The fact I can make eye contact and mask means I am neurotypical 😩😒. I now take much better care of my neurodiverse self. I don't force myself to make friends and host parties. I don't stop myself from doing things that are "weird." I bought myself dolls because playing with the hair is so relaxing to me. I found a stim which works well for me and is helpful versus just dealing with stopping myself from stimming when I am overwhelmed. Makes me feel sad how long I went without ways to deal with my anxiety.

Most places don't test males and females differently for autism. The good assessors just know that there are a few differences. But you have to take the same tests and meet the same criteria that men do.

I have an autistic son, very few friends, and avoid parties, hugs etc. Good at Maths and Physics and had anxiety and panic attacks for many years until I stopped drinking. Starting to make sense now. Going to doctors soon to start the process of official diagnoses. About time as 52 years old now. Always thought my mother might have it.

Great video thanks! Not been diagnosed officially but reasonably sure I am on some level. I have had conversations with various counselors and psychologists who have identified or hinted at traits that would certainly fit the profile. The most crucial question for me about getting diagnosed would be "Will a diagnosis actually make a difference?" This is of course a difficult question to answer because everyone is unique and would be equally so in their response to intervention.

That's my question too. I don't know if there's any benefit to getting an official diagnosis because it's not like there's some course of action to take after that. I would likely continue to live my life the way I always have. Plus, I kind of feel in my heart like I already know.

Your example about being sad about going to Disney World makes total sense to me... kind of. It makes sense to me in that I can relate, but it doesn't make sense in that I don't understand it even though I experience it. Here's my recent example : I had an appointment to go to, so I did. After said appointment my partner came to pick me up as I had asked. But then instead of going home like I expected, he stopped at a restaurant. Having my expectation subverted made me feel stressed and a little angry even. Logically I was thinking "Why are you being like this? You are being treated to a nice dinner, you should be happy!" But inside all I felt was "This isn't what I wanted, you didn't consult me about this, everything is not as it should be right now!"

Stimming: i shake one foot uncontrollably only when I'm alone because i know it looks weird AF (excuse the language). I also secretly fidget with my fingers, even pinch my skin during social interactions....is that common with autistics? Im not diagnosed, but i have so many of the traits like speaking late, bad comprehension as a child, had speech therapy lessons which included improving eye contact, sensory issues (i wish i can shave my hair off! Im female) etc....but im very high functioning. Im an intensive care nurse :(

Growing up I always knew my mum was different. She was very kind and gentle, never told us off and was really dedicated. She wasn’t the kind of mum to have lots of friends and leave us to go on nights out. However I kind of felt like I raised myself because emotionally she just wasn’t there, she would also never be able to solve my problems like other mums could. If I was being bullied or needed help, she wouldn’t even respond let alone get upset and as I got older I’d mention this to her and she’d pretend to be concerned. Even at her grandsons funeral she carried a tissue and wiped away fake tears, not because she felt nothing but she doesn’t know how to respond to things and will respond by copying those around her. She’s 68 but never been diagnosed but it’s only now that I realise that she has got autism and it explains why I had the childhood I did. It also explains why she twitches if something like a label is tickling her, why she can’t have the window down on the car and why she doesn’t get jokes or social queues in a gathering. As the grown up child of a parent with autism (and obviously I can’t speak for all because it’s a spectrum) I would definitely say it’s mentally challenging and I have sustained some psychological damage from it, such as over explaining everything to people, a very high ability to problem solve due to raising myself and and now have an inability to depend on others, and sometimes I second guess people and how they’re behaving towards me as my mum was always quite fake. This was just my experience and i know that autistic adults can also sometimes make amazing parents like Stephanie, but in some cases it can be challenging for a child if their asd parent is like my mother.

I don’t necessarily need to be around people. And I tend to scope out the room and, “read,” and somewhat adjust to the people and the vibe. - Hyperfixations? BIG CHECK. - I tend to try and break things down into pieces and think about just those things. So check. - Transitions? Oh yeah. Check. - NA; I am happily Human child free and love my six cats like a birthed them. - Stimming? Check. I click my pens a lot and I sometimes rock back and forth with - just no real true awareness. I've a few of those. I've played bass in loud punk rock bands, but I was doing a particular thing, my thing, but noisy environments out of my control can be stressful and confusing. I've always struggled maintaining friendships, most of my current friends now are my wife's friends (and there's not many of them). I'm a little fixated with some topics/interests and planning journeys etc. Changes in plans etc, even if they're better can take a bit of adjusting to ..and can affect me quite a bit (until I catch up with the positives). My daughter is in the process of being diagnosed as autistic (my family have thought for a while that I am) ...I'm only just going through the process myself (at 64), and although it makes perfect sense looking back through my life, it's still very disconcerting, stressful and unsettling (at the moment).

1. When I was in school, I hated pep assemblies, because they were too loud, and I couldn't escape. Now, I hate having the beauty mask on my face, so to make sure I did wash my face, my mom gave me face-wipes, which I use once a day. (I only wear make-up when I'm on stage, and I use two or three face-wipes to take the make-up off.) 2. I enjoy anything theater-related, so a lot of my friends are through that. I'm part of a local performing arts group, and we do a show every April, and have to start practices the Monday after New Year's in order to get ready. 3. When I was younger, I guess you could say I was hyperfixated on my performing arts group, and refused to get a job because I was afraid I couldn't do both at the same time. (People who have tried to help me have given up on me in that.) 4. I have trouble with shaving, so my mom did that for me when I was younger (I only stopped when I cut myself with the razor too many times as a teenager), and now my husband does it for me. 5. I have no problems with changes or transition, I'm used to it. When I was younger, there were a couple of times I got upset once the performing arts group would finish their annual spring show, and I knew I wouldn't be back at it for several months. However, the way I handled that was, the Monday after the show ended (which is when we now have our cast party; when I was younger, we'd have it at someone's house after the Saturday night show, but that got to be too much for the person hosting the party, to wait until after everyone had left to clean up and go to bed), I'd make a little paper calendar with the number of days (one year, I made one with the number of hours) until practice for the next show would begin. 6. My husband was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome when he was 18 (or, at least he was suspected of having it; the diagnosis didn't come until he was 28), and I've been suspected of having autism, too. (That's why I sometimes frustrate my provider with my lack of conversation and my universal answer of "I don't know" to every question.) 7. Ever since I was a kid, every time I would get stressed or excited, I would clench my fists, shrug my shoulders, and throw my head back. (I have a neuromodulation unit to help with headaches, and my parents asked the surgeon if my stim would affect it; the doctor didn't seem to think it would be an issue, but three months after I got the implant, I had to have another surgery to replace the lead in my unit because I was doing that. I'm now on medication to control it. In fact, I went to another doctor last spring who diagnosed me with stereotypy.)

These are the signs I’ve been having for a while: Stimming: I play with my hair a lot, and sometimes teachers or students would assume I’m raising my hand when I stim but it’s a common thing for people to mistaken my constant hair touching. Sensory: tags bother me so much even the softest ones and imprinted tags on clothes they’re just so incredibly itchy I would get mad at how itchy it is and end up ripping off the tag like a barbarian and end up messing up the sides and backs of my shirts. I live near a very loud train and every time I am under it and a train passes by the noise I just can’t stand it I cover my ears so much sometimes I scratch the inside of my ear because of how unbearably loud that train is. Some people in the street that are from my neighborhood look at me funny because I do it and some just dislike me because of it. Socially: always struggled keeping friends. Had a few special friends that we just ended up either growing apart or we had a fight and it never worked out after that or (in an unfortunate case) had passed away. She was a neurotypical but she understood me and appreciated me. I feel blessed to have my fiancé for as long as I have because he also understands my neurodivergence and likes those parts of me. But yes I do often struggle with making friends even though I try to make friends anyway. Hyperfixation: as of lately I have been feeling off because I don’t have something I’m hyper focused on and I’m going through a midlife crisis because I don’t know what path to take next and that there’s so many. I struggle with consistency (because I already have ADHD) and so I have a hard time staying consistent if I am not hyperfixated on something important (that I define as important) I have always struggled with finding a career path with me and has led me to long periods of unemployment and I don’t have that sort of sense of stability bc I just struggle with it. I want to get over it eventually though. Executive functioning: i can memorize a group of numbers like phone numbers and library card numbers and such but i struggle with memory of things without patterns so if math doesn’t have understandable patterns i just have so much of a hard time learning the maths 😅 if a book is interesting I will read it in less than a couple of days but if it’s a book I am forcing myself to be interested in I’m never gonna touch it. Job wise, I’m really good at jobs if it’s something I’m interested in and enjoy doing but people have said I have a “hard time getting along with others” and it’s really just the other colleagues being bullies and trying to sabotage my livelihood. So yes I am good at a job just if it’s with the right people that understand my condition. That’s pretty much what I’ve been going through! Sorry for the rant I can talk like this for hours but yea I’m not sure where to get a test to test for autism but if you do know of any I can take please let me know because it’s hard to navigate life already and I just want some answers

oh geez. i think i have like 5/7 of those traits. i had a really bad accident the summer before my senior year in HS ( a drunk driver hit me in my car and his fender crushed the side of my head) I was in a coma for 2 weeks. then I woke up. The docs said I would probably not be the same person, moods, angry all the time, etc. I didn’t think i had any major symptoms but now in my 40s, i got diagnosed with depression and major anxiety. It’s really hard to tell if this was due to my accident, or it is just me not having any energy for bullshit anymore. I might come across as bitchy, bu5 really i just can;’t do the small talk w people, I just have no energy for that. And now watching this vid, I wonder if I am on the spectrum of Autism. whew this is a lot to absorb atm. Thanks for the vid, it really helped.

Both have notorious tantrums whenever we leave a favorite place. Tantrums worse than what I see in other kids the same age. So I'm wondering if there's something there with them and transitions. Also, my older son really does hyperfocus on certain things. It makes parenting easier... until I wonder where he is and if he remembered to eat. Very interesting!

1. Sensory - Kinda yeah, I think so 2. Social - That's basically me. Socializing just feels like a chore. And yes I have a mask for every occasion. 3. Hyperfixation - I have one thing that I've been hyperfixated on since I was young. While, Binging series, I used to but I disciplined myself to savour them. 4. Executive Functioning - Kind of... I think... Cleaning I have a problem with, but cooking I even enjoy. Although I always do my laundry on Sundays. 5. Transition - Boy I really hate it when that happens. Especially at work. When I've mentally prepared myself for one type of work and then they tell me something else is a higher priority. GAH I hate that! 6: Autistic Kids - I don't have kids... So can't tell 7: Stimming - I don't know if it counts but I can't sit in one spot I always just wander around. Soooo... Maybe, thing is my therapist doesn't think I'm autistic. Please read my comment if you baby is autistic 🙏🏻.
