I started taking collagen at the age of 17 after experiencing a knee injury from wrestling. Doctors recommended cortisone or surgery. The doctor was really pushy about the cortisone so I caved. One month later I'm making an appointment for the surgery. After the recovery process I continued to experience tightness and extreme aches in my knees. I decided to do my own research and came across collagen peptides. Ever since I've been pain free. I think that people don't place enough importance on skin health. Skin is the last to receive any nutrients you consume, so if you have to use lotion every day or get rashes then you are deficient in something or are accumulating capillary damage which indicates the potential of heart disease. You could be deficient in fat if you are dry, proteins if it is saggy or lacks elasticity, minerals if it is dry or saggy, if there are tiny red spots/veins it could be inflammation or heart disease. Skin is also the first line of defense between you and the outside world. Basically, anything that is good for the skin is having many times the beneficial effect on the inside of the body. It is not all about vanity to have beautiful skin.

The collagen supplements he is recommending are all about the same molecule size so you are absorbing about 30%, I believe.

Hi Cindy, We can't speak on Thomas' behalf but hopefully can provide you with some helpful info so you can arrive at an educated decision. There is actually no clinical research on using collagen while in ketosis, so we have to use clinical judgement to make an educated guess! Collagen does not contain carbohydrates, but it is a protein which can be converted into glucose depending on your metabolic state. Studies in animals and humans have shown that when you are adequately fed, some collagen is burned for fuel (i.e. turned into glucose or ketones), and the rest makes it to your connective tissue. This means that a collagen supplement along with a fat-rich meal will probably not hurt your ketone levels while still delivering some advantages that are crucial for a healthy low-carb diet. If you are in a highly stressed state (like when you’re in the first week of keto-adaptation), your body can break collagen down and turn it into glucose. This could potentially knock you out of ketosis.If, however, you were in a physically and metabolically demanding state (i.e. running a 10K), the glucose that came from collagen protein is directly used to fuel your muscles―effectively preserving your ketotic state. So, you can take collagen while on a ketogenic diet, but that doesn’t answer whether you should or shouldn’t. All in all, besides all the other benefits of collagen, we think you should take a collagen supplement if you’re restricting your carbs primarily because collagen provides key amino acids that are lacking in ketogenic diets. But it is important to keep the above in mind so you don't potentially go out of ketosis. As always, discuss with your doctor before making any modifications to your diet. We hope that this helps, Cindy! Do you have any questions that perhaps we can assist with? As a company that produces a collagen supplement we do our best to keep up to date with the latest research and educate the public. We invite you to visit our page for more info on collagen and keto. At 52, better late than never starting collagen, right? I'm beginning keto again (50lbs overweight)... Please wish me luck. I've failed so many times because I think my liver was fatty and my fats were too high. So this time I'm going to tweak it and not give up. I've been getting in physical conditioning and so I'm ready for anything. :--)

Have you added intermittent fasting to Keto? For some people, IF causes weight loss better than Keto. If you're having trouble you may need to do longer fasts, like one meal a day (OMAD).

What is the recommended amount of collagen to consume on a daily basis? You mention a study where women consumed something like 2.5 grams but most companies recommend 10-20 grams??
@thewendysims4 жыл бұрын
That is because the collagen he is recommending has a large molecule size and isn't as well absorbed. So you end up taking more to actually get a specific amount. You would have to read the actual studies to see what collagen is being used and I. What form.
