I find it funny when I hear people calling me a "digital nomad". My privileged way of life, where I get to work on my computer from anywhere in the world, is nothing like the lifestyles of truly nomadic people. And there's fewer and fewer of them left in the world.
On this adventure, I joined IRANomad Tours and a family of Bakhtiari nomads in Iran - some of the very last nomads in the world - as they crossed the Zagros Mountains. Together with their giant flock of sheep and goats, and other families from their tribe, we trekked over the mountains for a week, towards their summer pasture. It turned out to be one of the most adventurous and life-changing journeys I've taken so far.

As an American expat, there are still certain places I’m reluctant to visit, like Iran, more so out of fear of how I’d be treated or scrutinized by American customs with an Iranian stamp on my passport then fear that I’d be mistreated by the Iranians themselves.

My husband and I moved to Alaska in 1975 with 5 of our 6 children ages 10 months to 12 years old. We lived and used army tents throughout the 1st Winter. It was reportedly the worst Winter in that area in 20 years. We actually made it through that Winter Only to build a log cabin in the Spring end up having it burn down In less than a year. I was pregnant shortly without our 6th child and no way to get out to a hospital until the coast guard arrived the next morning. Is lots of other adventures not the least of which was the Winter of 2021 22.One thing we have learned is the keeping power of God when all else fails. You certainly had the divine hand of God on your team during this horrendous experience in Antarctica. I have a feeling that this may be the worst that you will experience in your lifetime. Of course nothing is certain but I hope that you remain strong and alive and continue with these insane but beautiful travel blogs. This is from an 84 Year old grandmother in Alaska who is still alive and doing well. And our kids and grandchildren are all doing very well also. The hardships of their early life in rural wild Alaska only served to make them strong and industrious as they now face daily life in civilization in their adult years.

As I was moving through my day today which included partaking of some worldly news, I began to think of the journey to greener pastures that Eva documented in this video, and how emotional I felt watching it. I began to see the Kooch as being so symbolic of where we are at this present time in a journey together as a species living on planet earth, moving through a difficult part, and getting a little stuck here and there, facing at times death and at times birth.

Eva….this vlog, I would like to say was the toughest and most eye-opening! First of all, you venturing to spend a week amongst them is a mighty challenge! It’s unimaginable how this almost extinct tribe of nomads take the hardships they endure daily in their stride! Made us city dwellers realise how easy our lives are compared to the tough life these unheard of tribes live totally on their own. The final farewell was very emotional and as other viewers too mentioned, the tearing up of that nomadic woman showed that human emotions cross all barriers! Eva…Bless your every venture! My family is a dedicated fan of yours!

Our Filipino workers made friends with them, we noticed that some were professionals like doctors and rich people, some also owns buildings but they prefer to stay in nomads tents and we knew that they dont have any passports free to travel anywhere they wanted to go. Maybe some said Filipinos have pretty gypsy girlfriends, i dont know if its true but they are friendly people. My actual experienced during my stay in Banias, Syria.

Every aspect of this video was fascinating, seeing the trek through the gorge, packing & unpacking, their camping sites & how they herded the animals. Loved seeing the cooking, especially the bread making. And what a sweet clip of the young boy sleeping close to the baby lamb. Thanks for showing both the beauty and the harsh realities of this nomadic life.

I agree & love what you've said, sorry I can give you only one thumb up. You show real modesty and appreciation. Maybe some of the thumbs down are from people who just doesn't like her style, or other respectable reason, but I guess most of them are from envious people who don't live live, just let it pass. Considered by people as a strong woman, & an adventurer when I had the physical health needed for it, I'd never have had the strength and adaptability she has, or make such good videos.

Till 80 some years ago my grandparents made this journey till they finally remained and settled in their Winter country or Winter land around late 1930's. My 91 year old father was born while migrating from Winter camp to their summer camp with hundreds of their relatives. Their summer camp was in Foothills of Zard kooh (Zagroos Mountain) where they used to spend about early Spring till earlly fall. They spent their time tending their animals and farming . Women also would weave carpets and the traditional heavy black tent. After seeing first sign of autumn cold rain , the tribe would start their winter migration over the mountain range towards west, warmer and greener pastures . Each clan had their own area to settle for Fall and Winter time. It happened that my father's clan Winter camp was near a town, and some kids attend school. The Bakhtiari tribe divides into several branches or clans . Each of these clans according to their population size and contributions to the tribe had their own designated route to migrate and designated land to farm . Bakhtiari territories covers a land approximately the size of state of Maine.
