Portal 2 intro doesnt only teach you some things, its a way to see if you use inverted controls or not. when it says look down, you can either press up or down and they'll both look down.

yea, I think Halo 1 does too. a lot of games do it but people dont notice cause they press up or down without trying both of them. I think I was just being a jerk and it said "look up" so I pressed down and it went up anyway.

You guys should do a video about all the times video games had you collect things and gave you basically no reward - I'm looking at you AC II, when I spent hours trying to collect all the feathers for Ezio's poor mom, only to find upon googling that a 10 second cutscene and a cape that made me notorious was the entirety of my reward. Screw that, I'll just KZbin the scene!

I like the one for Skyrim. It shows you the controls while in the moment, and the sequence of events that incorporates using the controls is very fluid, which helps it keep from feeling forced. And at the very end it shows you a big aspect of the game, which is that there are different ways to complete or overcome a task or enemy, and you can choose between your options.

What about Halo? In Halo: CE, the tutorial is disguised as post-cryosleep diagnostics. In Halo 2, it's testing that the new armor works properly, and in Halo 3 the tutorial is making sure you're ok after falling from space. All of these enhance the story, as well as teaching the player basic controls.

No, not creative. Halo tutorial is the most basic of what tutorials are. Standard to the point. Also, enhance is being fan generous. In no way does aiming preference enhance the story, the reasons for doing it may match the story sure. Not enhance though.

Used to be scared to death of the butler in Tomb Raider 2. You'd run away from him quite easily, but no matter where on Lara's estate you went, you'd soon hear the rattling of cutlery on his tray and then he would loom out of the distance. Next to Lara, who was this badass acrobatic adventurer, he was this crusty old man who followed her around very much like how the spectre of death is constantly following everyone of us throughout our finite lives on this planet. Plus I think he farted on occasion. Can't start farting. Especially in front of a lady.

I think the tutorial for Fallout 3 has got to be one of my favorites. But, my most favorite tutorial was from the first Fable. It was long. But, it gave the chance to get attached to your character and the world before you even really set out in it. It also provided a real preview for the different styles of play. And, drove home the core appeal which was weighing out a moral choice, and understanding that there is consequence for all actions. As a bonus, getting good at the tutorial would lead to starting off a character in a better position. By the time I finished the tutorial I already knew where I wanted to take my character. And, I felt confident that I had all the per-requisite knowledge to craft my character progression. Which made the first few hours mostly about discovering fun and interesting things. Instead of still finding my footing.

NYESSSS I'v never played SR1 because I've never owned an Xbox. I'm very aware the series started out more serious (although, 2 had more than it's fair share of humor as well) The fact still remains, that's not what is now. Now it has it's own identiy. Now it stands out. I dont want a reboot to make it blend in with genre better. I want the most over the top shit they can think of. I'm not saying people that like the earlier games more are wrong in their opinion but I dont understand that opinion.

@southparkkenny2
@southparkkenny2 9 жыл бұрын
Kenny_Cartman One thing that made SR2 better than SR3 & 4 was the fact that the characters were human, they actually knew when they were outnumbered and they knew their limits, they still did batshit near lethal stuff, but in SR2 their survival was believable. For example: in SR2 there is a part where Johnny Gat is impaled through the abdomen by Jynichi, it takes him most of the Ronin's story arch for him to heal. while in SR3 there was the whole scene where the boss is smashing through plane windshields and shooting while still falling vertically. SR2 had easier characters to like as well, Carlos played a minor role in the game yet was one of the most well remembered characters in the series. SR2's side missions were funnier as well, Septic Avenger had you spraying literal shit on houses to decrease the property value for the Saints to buy, while SR3 had you drive a car with a tiger in it to make the boss more confident so he could fight Killbane... even though you are still able to continue with the activity after the mission where you fight Killbane. If you haven't played SR2 you should, it also has far more customisation options than SR3 or 4.

I LOVE the first Halo game. Every time I play older games like that I get so much nostalgia its crazy! I explore as much of the ship as I can and see every little keypad and station :) The graphics are pretty bad but it gives me such a cozy feeling lol I love it. And when I get to the bridge of the ship I love seeing the guys work at their stations and stuff. Such a throw back to older games. Jedi Outcast was a perfect example of this. The sounds and everything are awesome.

I personally like the tutorials from Half Life, Half Life: Blue Shift, and Half Life: Opposing Force. Yes, they can be skipped, but their clever nonetheless. For example, Half Life and Half Life: Blue Shift have a type of "training facility" presumably located in Black Mesa. Half Life: Opposing Force, however, is my personal favorite of the three. I just thought it was pretty cool to be taught the mechanics through a boot camp.

It isn't specifically stated as a tutorial, but all through the main story of Pokemon Conquest, you keep being given new information on everything from type matchup to items to battle abilities and so on. Many people consider the entire main plot to be the tutorial, which would make the 30+ postgame plots the real meat of the game. Plus they give you an opportunity to play as the main villain and all of his main generals. Not in a "he joins you and you occasionally get to boss him around" way, but you get him as the actual central character for an entire story.

I always liked the tutorials of the early COD games. COD1 and 2 actually take you through a basic training course, although in COD2 you also actually fight within the same mission. COD3's tutorial was probably my favorite, though. In that scenario, you seem to be a fresh transfer to the unit and the tutorial is played out as Huxley kind of testing your range of skills.

Kotor 1 has a tutorial section that I've always loved. The whole thing was framed as a rather action packed escape from a ship that was about to explode, and set the whole "star wars" tone pretty well. Actually, Dragon Age: Origins, and DA2 also had tutorial sections I really enjoyed. But Kotor has always been one that I never seem to get tired of. (although, the long and boring lull that is Taris always immediately kills my high, after the tutorial is done. -_-)

If you ever re-do this list the first cases of the Ace Attorney games are more or less tutorials but they’re all a lot of fun, do a good job of setting up the story and tone of the game, and a few of them (looking at you Apollo Justice) even have some pretty unique twists in them. Plus you can mess up doing simple stuff and the only consequence is that everyone starts mocking you!

Sam Cook Definitely the best. The atmosphere of the town was perfect at lulling you into comfort, the Organization being introduced was great, the tournament was really fun, that characters they introduced were all very likeable, and the fact that they tore it all down and exposed it as a fraud before they throw you into the real game was genius.
