It's possible he flew to the very edge of space and that he was able to hold his breath for long enough to take in the view, and then perhaps there was enough atmosphere for him to fly back, or he just let gravity pull him back down. That's not necessarily the same as being trapped further out in space itself, so it's not really definitive.

It probably never could’ve happened because the guy was pretty nuts when we find him (and pretty dead when we leave him,) but Mindstorm 100% could’ve killed Homelander pretty easily. His powers clearly work on Soldier Boy as we see in Noir’s flashback and the fact that Soldier Boy is very careful not to make eye contact. He explains that Mindstorm traps his victim in an endless nightmare until they dehydrate. Homelander is so mentally fucked it wouldn’t be hard to trap him in own brain, then just wait a few days, week to be safe, until he’s dehydrated. You could also drown or suffocate him. In season 1 they very vaguely explain why it didn’t work on Translucent but it definitely would’ve. The problem with killing Soldier Boy was that he’s very resistant to physical harm, but you could’ve just put him under and cut off the oxygen in the tank or filled it with water. The same would probably work with Homelander.

In Noir's flashback, though it seems like Mindstorm was having some effect on Soldier Boy, it didn't seem like it took him out immediately like it did Butcher, and I don't think Soldier Boy avoided eye contact completely. They still needed that gas thing I forgot the name of. Not sure what's going on there, whether Black Noir's retelling was wrong about that or whatever, or if Soldier Boy has some kind of resistance, but...I dunno, it depends? As far as the no-oxygen thing, I think Homelander implied he'd seen Vought HQ from space to Edgar. Though I suppose it's possible he had to wear like, a spacesuit or something, or hold his breath.

@@naingmon that’s the interesting thing, Soldier Boy doesn’t succumb immediately to Mindstorm in the flashback, but it clearly seems like he would’ve and the fact that he was actually nervous when confronting him shows, to me, that it would at least put him under eventually. If they held Homelander still like they did, I imagine they could make it happen. I remember that line. I took it as he didn’t leave the atmosphere or anything, he was just very high up there to where the sky starts divide. I don’t think he can survive without oxygen, food, or water though, but that being said we’ve never actually seen him eat or drink anything besides fetish milk. We have seen him breathing though. EDIT: he did actually eat those pancakes and Deep’s friends tho

Personally, I'd like to see what Homelander would do if he was de-powered and just became a regular man. He's lived his whole life as this god-like being and he feels like he is above everyone, so it would be funny to see how he copes with being brought down to 'our' level. It would ruin him psychologically! I actually hated this finale because it feels like this season was just the show spinning it’s wheels- I thought an amazing finale would’ve been Homelander depowered and on the run as “John”, struggling to reject his humanity while also being forced to adapt without his powers. This would occur through next season where at the end he gets V again, and leads into a final season of all-out war because Homelander has fully rejected his humanity after being forced to that level.

The ear is vulnerable because of how well he can hear. The rod in the ear just increased the conduction to the ear drum (no penetration). Combine a conductive rod with the high pitch super loud sound and I think you can take him out.

My current theory is that, because Soldier Boy’s energy blast is infused with high levels of radiation as he’s basically now a nuclear reactor, that those levels of radiation is what de-powers a supe. If that’s the case, then maybe a nuclear bomb could de-power Homelander, even if it may not kill him outright. Maybe the boys can build a dirty bomb, encased in zinc so HL doesn’t know what it is, and get it close enough to him to detonate

first, soldier boys energy blast isn't infused with radiation, it is the radiation. Second, the reason the blast de-powers supes is cause it fries the V out of their system, not cause of the levels of radiation. Third, stillwell says that they've thrown everything at homelander, which includes nuclear bombs. Your theory is debunked and that's never going to happen.

That'd be way more satisfying than bullying him till he decides to commit suicide. But the only satisfying way to defeat Homelander is to defeat him in a fight. As a representative for the United States of america I’d like to answer Masons question of what the soldier boy “Disco Talent Show” was. In the 1970’s-early 80’s networks were expanding and needed programming. An easy in creative way networks would get ratings was have celebrities come on and cover their older songs or other famous songs in a disco version. He probably cant survive in space indefinitely, so just use a teleporting supe to teleport him to pluto or something. I'm not sure how many seasons they plan on doing and how true to the source material they're planning to stay with regards to plot, but I'd be disappointed if they don't give him the Ozai treatment. I personally am a strong adherent to the theory that he was just lying to Maeve during the plane hijacking because actually saving the plane would have taken genuine effort and consideration on how to do it without killing everyone inside. His assertion that he cannot fly without pushing off of something, while not outright disproven yet, is extremely unlikely, as he can hover, accelerate and decelerate without the ground. In fact he decelerates to a hover to watch that plane go down, then presumably accelerates again without assistance to fly them back home. I imagine he could easily fly in space, probably even easier than in atmosphere, however it is likely he needs to breathe, so I doubt he could last in space for very long. He appears to fly at a very high mach speed though so you'd have to get him very far from earth to kill him that way, and even then we don't know if a lack of oxygen outright kills him or if he has a special supe mechanism that somehow prevents him from dying in a such a situation. I suppose its possible he flies simply by pushing himself through the atoms in the atmosphere, so maybe in that case he couldn't fly in spsce but its very unclear. Doesn't explain the hovering unless hes changing either his density or the density of the air around him.

I don't think he was lying, I think it's a matter of traction. When the mass = him+Maeve or another person, he can get enough traction from the air molecules to control his velocity in flight. But a loaded plane with fuel + cargo + passengers can equal almost a million lbs. Momentum = mass x velocity. The plane has far greater momentum than Homelander carrying a person, even if Homelander was flying at 1 million mph. And he's nowhere close to capable of that. As he also pointed out to Maeve, "catching" the plane moving at that velocity would crumple or shred it anyway.

Whether or not the plane could be saved doesn't change these facts: -he likely lied about needing to push off of something, so the rest of what he said is dubious even if the conclusion is the same -nothing we've seen implies he would be unable to move in space, so it wouldn't be a good thing to attempt, seeing as you really only have one chance to kill Homelander. If you fail and don't have an immediate plan B, he will wipe out millions before you can try anything else.

However it's possible that he could have cut the plane into smaller pieces and took the sections down one at a time. That would mean less trips then one person at a time.

Though it appears even at its lowest "setting" its still lethal to humans, Homelander could have easily killed Stormfront, as heavily implied by the fact she looked terrified of him before she came clean about who she was. I love that you guys noticed the hair which in season 4 is a plot point I never would of picked that up. Honelander does mention the view from space a few times so I think he can go there safely. Also Ryans laser eyes did so much damage to Storm front, who literally took Honelanders lasers as foreplay.

He seems to take soft tissue damage (bruises, nose and eardrums) from massive and concentrated force. Punching is unlikely to get the job done because a fist is just a slower, blunter bullet, what you need is crushing damage: gouging his eyes, biting him or bear hugging him with enough force might do some lasting damage. If you could drive a spike or a power tool against his skin hard enough it might get through. Weve seen his father's skin was broken by extreme heat from butchers lasers, and he lacks a healing factor, so his jugular could be cut if a beam was reflected back at him, allowing him to bleed out. From what I know of science, if his skin is anything like metal or plastic, extreme cold would make it more brittle, and then driving a diamond tipped metal spike into it could crack the surface around it. He's not been shown to have resistance to psychic attacks from mesmer, mindstorm or Cindy, so maybe that factors in. Honestly I hope Tek Knight shows up, with actual V-based superintelligence, and puts him (or maybe ryan) to the test.

Garth Ennis is really a bastard for making that fight happen mostly off-screen, Balck Noir ended up burned almost to an skeleton, so it makes me think that it got to a point similar to the final fight in _Man of Steel_ except Homelander was lazering Black Noir at his full power while he was trying to rip Homelander's head off... and that's brutal... but also, is possible that in the show the roles are reversed: Homelander ultimately kills Ryan but he get messed up beyond salvation during the fight and Butcher finnish him off

Eric Kripke, the showrunner, said in an interview if Maeve and Homelander kept fighting, she would’ve eventually killed him. So I guess just keep sending Maeve after him, she’s somehow stronger than he is and can just stab him in the ear a bunch. Edit: Everyone saying she lost her powers, I’m very aware. Guess what? So did Kimiko and she just took more V to get it back. Kripke also said Maeve is coming back for sure, so this is still possible.
