Knowing what he was up to, my cousin was in the passenger seat and asked if I was going to race. I said no, just let this guy keep playing. Well, then the guy starts the whole, goose the throttle, back off, goose the throttle, back off. He finally annoyed me enough, and I tell my cousin to hang on. The next time he dropped back I downshifted to 3rd and dropped the hammer. I pulled on him hard, grabbed 4th, still pulling, grab 5th at 120. I look in the rear view and see him approaching, FAST. I look at the speedo and I am at 130 and just at that moment he passed me like I wasn't moving. My jaw dropped, my cousin was like WTF was that? I simply said, that's one fast ass Civic is what that is. It is a memory that I will laugh at forever.

None of the 1990-1994 motors experienced crankwalk, as far as I'm aware. As for the 1995-1999 engines, I think it was a bit overblown. It apparently was only a problem during low oiling scenarios. I never had a problem with my '97 Eclipse although I disabled the clutch switch as soon as I was aware, as I hated the idea of putting pressure on the crank with zero oil pressure.

I'm sad because he didn't mention the SN95/new edge (94-04) mustang when he mentioned the fox, it's on the same platform, and you can legitimately get an amazing example for 2k (just stay away from cobras under 5k, got screwed getting one for 3800, trans blew in a month, had to put a new rack and power steering pump in it, had to replace the front shocks, had to change the clutch after finding out it had a GT clutch rather than a cobra clutch, it's currently sitting in my driveway waiting to have the engine pulled and refreshed to go in my amazing 96 gt.

Former DSM owner here. The crankwalk mentioned in this video was only prevalent in the 2nd gen DSMs with the much maligned "7-bolt" version of the 4G63 2.0L engine. This was encountered mostly in 95-99 models, from what I recall. The older, 1st gen DSMs with the "6-bolt" 4G63 didn't have this issue, and so MANY 2nd gens had 1st gen engine swaps. A fun set of facts about my dad and his 92 Talon: 1. He is the reason Chrysler made it in Turquoise Blue Metallic. That color was only available on the Eclipse, but he liked the black top that the Talon had, so he annoyed some guy at Chrysler SO MUCH that they started making it Turquiose Blue Metallic and he got the second one made (the first was a showcar and he didn't want it because someone put a hole in the dash). 2. It was the very last 6 bolt car. Mitsubishi made a few changes to the 4G63 effective the second week of April of 1992. The changed motor was known as the 7 bolt (supplanting the 6 bolt). The 7 bolt motors were the ones that experienced crankwalk. This wasn't intentional, it just happened. 3. It had 315k miles on it and the motor has never been rebuilt, but it was customized by the Archer Brothers who raced the factory Talons in the SCCA World Challenge Series. It dynoed last year at 543hp across all four wheels. 4. It was the car that brought me home from the hospital and my dad REFUSED to sell it after I was born despite how hard it was to put a carseat in. My first memory of life is being in a rear facing carseat in the back of the Talon and watching rain drip down the rear glass. 5. It was in The Fast and the Furious. In the chase scene when the Supra and the Charger were chasing the motorcycles, when Brian slides the Supra sideways to shoot, you see the Talon stop in front of it. 6. The first time I drove it on the road, I had just gotten my license, I had a lot of parking lot miles on it, but this was my first road experience in not just it but a manual car in general. My dad was in the passenger seat, we were stopped at a light and an early S197 Mustang pulled up next to us and started revving. My dad looked at the Musrang, then at me and said "Don't lose." I was terrified I was gonna stall it, but I didn't, I SMOKED him.

I'm 6'4. My first project car was a '64 Valiant. With a 340 V8 and a 4-speed, that car weighed only 2870 lbs, which was about 90 lbs less than my buddy's 327 Vega. Terrible stock brakes, but with some parts juggling I was able to swap to 11.8" front disc brakes from a '70 Imperial. Had to get custom-made headers done up, though, there isn't much room between the fenderwells.

I got a dirt cheap mini r53 and I’ve had a really easy time finding parts. Yeah they’re super leaky and stuff tends to fail, but if you can find one with lower mileage that’s been taken care of then you’re set. There’s also a lot of online support for k-series and 2jz swaps. Honestly one of the funnest cars I’ve driven

i paid $2500 for mine with 164,000 miles my senior year in high school. Put brake pads on it, a starter, and fuel pressure regulator. Put 20k miles on it in 16 months then sold it still running great. I beat the crap out of that car too, burnouts, drifting, redline every single day.
