Having owned both I can sum this up. As mentioned, Lexus will give you better reliability long term if you buy the car and keep it for a while. However if you lease it wont matter either way. The X5 is simply more fun to drive, more engagement with the road. The X5 all wheel drive system is also much better than the RX hands down if that matters. X5 however once out of warrantee is very expensive for oil changes, routine maintenance. Lexus is pretty on par with other manufacturers. X5 electronics are finicky after a while as well. Lexus can be serviced at pretty much any mechanic if you choose not to goto Lexus dealer for service. BMW your kind of stuck going to BMW dealer unless you can find a good mechanic that works on BMW's. My only concern right now with Lexus is that the 6 cyl turbo engine is new that they've put in. Jury still not out yet on how good/bad it is. The RX has many new safety features which are good on one hand but annoying/too much on the other. Enough beeping guys. Enough. I think it all comes down to what you want. If money is no object than hands down the X5 is a great car. If you want something of quality that is going to last for many many years, you pay the car off and keep it for a while and will get decent money back on a trade in then Lexus is better. I dont believe the X5 holds its resale value as well as Lexus either but again some people care, some dont.

We bought 2023 Lexus RX350h Ultra luxury 74K And around same time our friend bought a 2023 BMW x5 premium package 100K Yes bmw has some more luxury like when you activate the front seats heating or cooling the arm rests get warm or cold too, but when you want to load stuff in the back of your x5 the lower part is kinda in the way unlike Lexus , in the Lexus the back seats are positioned Lower and in the x5 the beach seats are positioned higher and you can clearly see the difference between them but one thing that I liked about the Lexus is the door handle designs and the door opening assist that bmw didn’t had. About speed and acceleration no one gets an suv for performance they are not meant for that so we really didn’t cared about the performance, Ofcurse the car has to be able to carry its own weight but nothing more For us we got more bank for our buck so we bought a Lexus RX but I could totally see why people like to buy X5 after all it depends on your taste

It's important to note that the Xdrive 40 is the least entry X5 in the lineup whereas the RX 450h is the top-of-the-line Lexus. These 2 car companies are not playing in the same league.

Lexus reliability is legendary. But for those who drive cars like the X5 it doesn't really matter. They are either going to lease this, or drive it for 5-6 years, trade it in and get a new one. And most of the European luxury cars are going to be great in that time period, while offering more modern tech and a more exciting engine/transmission with better handling. It all depends on what you want or need.

Owner of X5, test driven the current Rx, feels too small both interior and exterior, ride is more quiet and relaxing, but lack power ( 300h model), overall X5 is more spacious, more fun to drive, but Lexus is definately more reliable for long time ownership, but majority of buyers at this price range probably won't own any car for over 5 or 6 years anyway so it's not a major issue

The car they pick up the most are BMW's. So it is faster. Thats good. I mean, you need it to be fast so you can reach that shop or dealer for repairs before they close the place on ya... Bought my 2018 rx450h with 35000 miles on it three years ago. Current mileage is 76000. Apart from regular servicing it's cost me 15 quid for a replacement wiper arm (ebay). Not sure a bmw would be so cheap to maintain over 41000 miles 🤔

You can't even get a bunch of options in the 40i model as of writing this. Ventilated front seats, acoustic glass, and heated rear seats aren't available to option in the US. They want you to spend more on the 50e and M60 models I guess.

I bought the RX for the smaller size, better mileage, and less cost.. I liked the X5, it had more features etc.. but I just dont need all that. I felt the BMW was more upscale, but the RX was good enough for me. Im not disappointed, I enjoy it, and have had it for 7 months now.

To sum it up. If you want a point A to B premium SUV with reliability get the Lexus. I you have a soul and enjoy driving and you want a LUXURY SUV the get the BMW. You must look at the category. Are people who are buying these SUV’s towing or going off road, no. Are you trying to drive like you are on a Grand Prix race track, no. Any toyota/lexus is better than this x5...😅but if someone would buy me I would say differently 😂 "never buy bmw" ,thats said to me my friend who worked at bmw dealer. Only lexus or mazda. He worked there too. The number of complains at bmw comparing to mazda and lexus was staggering. But if someone just buy me one ,no problem ,I could drive the x5,x4 ,x99😅 and other of 1000 models of bmw...

I love the design and performance of BMW, but i will never own a BMW. I leased 2 bmw and owned one bmw. And out of three of them 2 was unreliable and would break down all the time. And repairs are expensive. I owned all 4 Lexus over the years and they were all reliable. Not a single one needs repairs. I even owned one lexus and drove it to 265,000 miles without any repairs besides maintenance. I am sure Lexus repairs are expensive too but i would not know because i never had one to have any kind of catastrophic failure.

In Hong Kong China , Mercedes for the ambulances and Land Rover Defender for police cruiser , working class people most of them are driving Japanese car and billionaires driving European , in American most man driving a BMW and most women driving a Lexus .

Modern day BMWs are very reliable. Especially with B58s. Also owner takes important role. Proper maintenances will make your car more reliable. Only reason Toyo/Lex is notorious for reliability is because their cars have been same since 2000.

Give me the X5 every day of the week. They proved in this video that the X5 is way more luxurious, and it has a more refined powertrain. The RX is WAYYY too over styled for my taste, and the BMW has a way more attractive interior. I’d gladly pay the extra money for the Bimmer.

@@joegar47 bmw has the brand prestige and it shows in design powertrains handling tech luxury etc. compare a bmw to Lexus or lesser brands and bmw always wins. Brands like Hyundai Kia are closer to bmw in comparisons. After all hyundai kia hired engineers and designers from bmw Mercedes audi Bentley etc. fun fact Albert Biermann was responsible for tuning the chassis in the latest Hyundai Kia products and before he was tuning the chassis for bmw M You just won’t find that in a Lexus anymore. So if you want the luxury of reliability buy a corolla or Camry instead.

Being that Toyota proofed BMWs powertrains during the partnership for the Supra/ Z4, BMW placed 3rd in most reliable vehicles of all brands. I'd go with the Bimmer. Better tech, luxury, and now reliability to match, it's a win win

Go to garage which services premium brands and ask what they think :) BMW and reliability don't go together. With Lexus you have to be unlucky to have problems with BMW you have to be lucky not to have one. This is basically how it goes. Reason for this is simple- Lexus uses older solutions/parts tested in Toyotas, where BMW likes to experiment and over-engineering their cars. All this crazy stuff in BMW comes at price and this is lower reliability. It's simply impossible to get good reliability for BMW and they know it. They compensate it by edgy tech and powerful engines which make smiles on customer faces. Lexus is totally opposite, which is also a reason why you always have this fights in comments. Both cars represents very different end user groups- plain simple.
