Hi Leroy, I have had those same thoughts. I, too, am suffering from health anxiety. I have weeks were I do really well and then will have some really bad days where I think I’m dying. Turns out, I’m not. I’m working really hard on changing that mindset. It’s a challenge and I hope that Dennis can offer some insight through his videos.

i've been dealing with health anxiety for a long time, and i'm currently going through a bad period when i obssessively check myself, and self diagnose stuff like heart disease, multiple sclerosis and other illnesses just based on few simple symptoms that are way more likely to be there from my anxiety. i've decided i've had enough and that i want to start recovering. i found your channel a few days ago, and it feels very good to be guided by someone who actually went through this, not just being told that "it's okay" and "don't worry you're fine". i'm gonna kick anxiety's ass and i think your videos are gonna help me a lot :) thank you!

Update: My agoraphobia and panic continued to get worse. Then my husband died is a tragic way. The experience of my loss made me fearless for a while having had the worst already happen. I am now back to panic and agoraphobia due to illness but I am slowly making a lot of progress again. I highly recommend reading the power of now by eckhart tolle and practicing it daily. Even though I’ve had a major relapse I also now know that it really can get better and getting out of my comfort zone with blind faith is a key part to progress. My heart goes out to all❤️

Ι'm right out of a four month period of anxiety, hypochondria and panic. A big part of the cause of it was my body telling me "hey, I'm here, take care of me". It took me palpitations and ice pick headaches and numbness and dizziness and all that wonderful stuff to realise that I have back and neck problems. I am more aware of my body now, but it's a balancing act being aware vs being hyperaware. My coping method was a mixture of actual health care and physiotherapy, forcing myself out of bed-or having my boyfriend force me, and "so what". These days I feel myself slipping from time to time, sometimes I'll get an anxiety attack or have psychosomatic symptoms and think that all my progress is gone in an instant. It's really not though. Your videos remind me to be more aware. I need to move past obsession but be aware of my thoughts that aren't mine, my symptoms that aren't mine.

This is so weird... I have been watching a ton of videos on how to get rid of Panic attacks and Anxiety... and Just now i thought to myself.. "What i really need is to find someone who knows how to deal with anxiety about personal health" and then i thought.. "Thats going to be hard.. im sure very few people have this problem." And then I scrolled down and this video was sitting there.. in my recommendations. Holy Synchronicity.
@StawberryStranger6 жыл бұрын
Wow. This helps.. knowing that I am not the only one.. and seeing someone who has overcome this problem is incredible. Last night I sat there.. Super depressed and said.. because i thought i was making progress.. I am only 4.5 weeks into having panic attacks for the first time in life, and they have been coming 3 or 4 times a week. sometimes multiple in a day. And I thought I was doing good. But then had to leave work again last night because I freaked out.. and i sit there and tell myself i am okay. I am not going to die. The symptoms of anxiety are uncomfortable not dangerous... But it doesnt help.. And when the depression sets in.. I feel hopeless.. and i feel like someone is taking over my body.. and that someone is going to kill me. which sounds super silly.. but when i am depressed i am disassociated with my body.. its like i am observing myself out side. like i Projected my spirit out because i dont want to be in my body anymore. Then i think that the person or thing that IS in my body.. is not capable of getting out of the Panic and anxiety.. so what if that person just kills themselves. Of course that person is me.. Not someone else.. and that demon that is taking over are my bottled up fears and emotions.. but those thoughts in the first place are scary. Everything is scary. Ive been an avid.. SYMPTOM looker-uper for maybe 4 years now.. I think this is what is wrong. I think i have created a sort of hypochondria.. because my first panic attack started when I had Vaped some CBDab, and that day i had been doing a craft project and i was looking down for a few hours and i guess that trapped my Occipital nerve which gave me this raging pain in neck head and face.. And my BOy friend happened to say that he had a head ache similar to what i am describing and he thinks that it was the CB pen. Than i stood up to fast and got light headed.. like most people would if they stood up to fast.. but then that feeling didnt go away.. and I thought i was going to pass out 4 more times in a row.. and then i was hyperventilating and sweating so bad i had to strip. And then I lost all the feeling in my hands and Feet and they curled in and got stuck.. it took an hour and half for that to go away. I was to scared to even call 911 because I didnt want them to tell me that I was dying. I am extremely afraid of death. And I spent a lot of my teenage years with Bulimia and Anorexia. and the Anorexia.. hasnt gone away. I still get super frustrated with my body shape and size. Even though I am Small.. I dread gaining weight. I go through stages.. of not caring and being all spiritual and Psychedelic and not caring what other people think... But the person i cannot escape.. is my self. I care what myself thinks... which also sounds silly.. But Sometimes I can be really Awful to myself. I dont want to be miserable like my mom. But i Also dont want to be miserable like my Hypochondriac, anorexic aunt. And because I am more like my aunt.. And because i have struggled with drug addiction and Anorexia.. I push it to the back of my mind... But i am scared of what those things have done to me. And im LAZY AS FUHHH because i have no energy from not eating hardly ever.. so working out has been out of the picture.. until recently when i found out that it might help panic attacks.. Until i get my heart racing and then think i am going to die from a heart attack.. I AM STUCK IN A STUPID RETARDED CYCLE. I want to take control of my mind back. this is insane. I feel like i am going insane. And i am such a strong minded person... I guess i needed to vent. a bit.. I dont go to therapy. I write. Or i used to write. now since my panic attacks i write everyday. My dreams. My progress. NOT my symptoms.. which i used to keep track of every second. Tallys for how many times I went pee. Every ache every pain in every single part of my body.. Obsessive. But i stopped that. 2 years ago. But I am realizing.. that I think My brain didnt stop doing that. I just thought it did. And since my mom had a Brain tumor taken out. Twice. Ive been on edge. and struggling to find the will power to walk away from that Edge. I think This Anxiety guy might be able help. Like actually help.

i got diagnosed with Orthostatic HYPERtension yesterday - not hypo, hyper. my doctor was stumped, as he has never seen a case of it yet. waiting to see a cardiologist is absolutely killing me. i already have severe health anxiety, and so actually being diagnosed with something feels like a real death sentence.

These are good. I would add that finding ways to stop or lessen the behavior of "checking" symptoms all the time (seeking reassurances or feeding the negativity bias) helps too, as does some hard rules about staying off Dr Google. I'm not even sure I would have had the HA issues if there were no internet...

Hi Dennis. Thanks for another great video. I'm having serious health anxiety issues, know I'm doing it and can't help it (sounds familiar I know). I know you're not a doctor but just wondering if you've ever been asked this question. I'm trying to combat anxiety (amongst other ways) with exercise/sports. I love to play tennis and hockey. My problem? I've been getting intense chest pain in upper middle, above/at sternum. If I walk for a while it's a mild pressure. If I start running, play hockey, or run hard in singles tennis, it comes on within minutes. It goes away as I lessen intensity. while it's happening, it makes me increasingly nervous and I feel my breath flutter with my heart. I've had countless heart tests done as my doctor did take this seriously. In my Dr. Google times, I'm reading about "costochondritis" and "EIB - Exercise induced Brochospasm (asthma). I'm sick of seeing doctors and getting more tests, but it's hard to ignore these issues. 100 percent if I go for a run tonight, it will happen again. Have you or any followers reading this had or heard of this before? I've had this on and off for 20+ years. I'm 41, male and in decent shape. But past month it's really bad and now to the point I don't even want to play hockey because it hurts. It physically burns, hurts. I also have issues with heartburn, so could this be heartburn while exercising? It's odd that it comes and goes proportionally with intensity. Thanks, Mike - Canada.

@29DAYSOFTAG Dennis, when I got panic attacks and misunderstood the symptoms of anxiety into the following, 1. Heart attack, 2. Throat Cancer 3. Esophagus cancer 4. Stroke 5. COPD 6. Lungs cancer 7. brain tumour 8. Pulmonal problem I had thought 10 disease but forgot the two disease name and I worried each for several days. Everyday I worried on disease depending on my sypmtoms almost few months. It's been a year when I look back am laughing on myself how crazy I was. Symptoms goes away when I had detached myself from the disease. Now the question is I have worried so many days that I would get heart attack and die. Majority of my worries is on my heart. Though I made a good progress. Am not able to detach myself from that one thought and feelings. I knew these thoughts are purely my made but this is not leaving me free. Are you guys feeling something? like symptoms of the disease your anxious with? because I feel like I have symptoms of it and when I entertain myself it'll be gone and then if I noticed that the symptoms I felt were already gone then they slowly come back again. :( My wife and I will be having a baby in few months and I don't want to waste my time dealing with this anxiety rather than to have time with my baby. Im just 24 btw. :( Im such a happy and jolly guy before this health anxiety hit me. now I dont even know how to enjoy. I want to bring my old life back :(

Dennis i want to ask you something. Yes i have health anxiety. But there is a real disease i had since 1 year ago and that is hypertrophy turbinates in my nose. That made me hard to get a high quality of sleep (i woke up in the morning not feeling good) because one of my nostril is constantly blocked, i cant breathe properly. Im going to treat it next week. My question is, how can we differentiate between real disease symptoms and health anxiety symptoms? If we have both, like in my case.
@TheAnxietyGuy17 жыл бұрын
It's a very tricky question that has a very straight forward answer; Do the tests, get the doctors notes, stick them on your fridge to begin building on facts and adding evidence to your journey. I also picked up on the tricks my anxiety would play on me and recognized certain thinking and behavioral patterns that kept me sensitized, pattern recognition and observation is key to differentiating one from the other.
@craymeloftime7 жыл бұрын
The Anxiety Guy i see. that’s definitely the best way to differentiate it. Maybe I’m just too afraid and ashamed to meet the people in the hospital i usually went, they saw me way too often lol. Especially the internist and their nurses. Thanks for the answer Dennis.

Does anyone else have a constant tight chest. It’s been around 8 months now and it drives me nuts. Doctors say I’m fine, the ambulance staff said I was fine and that it was probably anxiety. It’s like my lungs tighten to different extents throughout the day. I have had anxiety for around 7 years but this is a new or more recent sensation I have.

Kyle i get this at night quite a lot and it makes me feel like I can’t breathe properly even tho I can see my chest moving up and down which obviously means I am breathing but I feel like a suffocating feeling which is terrifying for this I usually try box breathing which means you breathe in for a count of 4 hold it for 4 breathe out for 4 I do this maybe ten times in a row slowly and this usually helps relax this sensation maybe not completely but enough to stop the fear of stopping breathing

Joseph Mercado A bewildering journey for even the strongest willed person. How could these sensations of Depersonalization, dizziness etc possibly be caused by anxiety? Truth is they can, and the more we think that they can’t the more bewildered and sensitized we become. CBT people talk about acceptance of the sensations for what they are all the time, but it’s not enough. There are deeply held core beliefs that accompany the fear of what could occur that continue to fill us with the voices of ‘worry or else!’ it truly comes down to a number of factors, but replacing those core beliefs at a subconscious level and becoming disinterested in the sensations would be at the heart of anxiety recovery. This program will be your road map to desensitization as is for many others: anxietyexit.com/my-program/

My situation: I have stomach, colon and reflux problems, nausea etc... doctors say, it’s all psychosomatic, which I step by step try to accept. One thought always creeps in though: there’s stomach acid which can burn the esophagus and stomach over time. I have great difficulty to relate to the opinion, that anxiety can’t cause real physical illnesses now. I want to believe it’s just anxiety, but the thought of it leading to an illness keeps me on edge. Do you have a suggestion on how to tackle those kind of symptoms?

Hi Dennis. These past two years I've struggled with health anxiety, extreme hypersensitivity that convinces me something is wrong; strange feeling in my left leg, strange feeling in left arm, I feel like my heart is constantly racing. It's been getting better this past year but every now and then it comes back. I have stopped taking Prozac for this OCD type thoughts, but what do you do when these thoughts and hypersensitivity sensations come back?

Mannie Samuels You see it as part of the process towards developing your new character, you anticipate them, and with calm progress you focus back on your breathing, speed, and posture for state control. Control your physiology and you control your psychology in time.
