the balls of feet on foot peg tip is actually debatable, expecially in motocross, good luck keeping your feet to long in the pegs if you position it like that on motocross, and also, loose a lot of time repositioning your feet every time you want to break or shift (expecially when youre standing) , you know in motocross you constantly shifting all the time

That's what I was thinking about wich I'm not in motor cross but I ride my dirt bike and I've always had it in the middle of my foot it seems to be the best far as stability and shifting and hitting your rear brake but I honestly don't use my rear brake unless I have to. I reson is because I was riding a simi otm where u shift the gears with no clutch. If I could hold the clutch in then hit the brake that would be nice. I like not having a clutch on my 4 weeler but on a Dirt bike it kinda sucks. I've riden a clutch a few times. I hade a 110 4 speed. It was a Chinese bike it lasted me 2 years and about 3 weeks ago it quite 😂. I got a 125 that has a clutch but my mom and dad won't let me ride it much because they say I'm not old enough yet but I mean it's really not that big of a bike though only 4 stroke if it where 2 stroke that would be a different story.

OK - #1 - Dangling feet... I've always wanted to know: If you don't have your feet in a position to be shifting, how are you going to quick shift when the time comes? You have to completely move your feet to hit the shifter, or brake, if you're on the balls. Once you get up to speed, and you're free of traffic, or if you're in a cruising area of trail riding (which is almost never), then you can be in any position you want, short of anything unexpected happening. Luckily, with trail riding, you're really only using two gears 99% of the time, so perhaps it's better to be aggressive. It does feel better to be in that aggressive stance, but moving your foot back and forth between the shifter and the brake... Doesn't seem efficient. I could see the argument if you're never wanting to shift, and/or just on the open highway - and it feels incredible being in this position, but.... Efficient and safe? IDK about all that, Jim.

I have to admit that even after riding motorcycles for years, I commonly use both feet on the ground at the stoplights. Not always , but I do often. But then again here in Idaho we have some stop lights that are nearly 7 minutes long. If you get a 7 minute long stretch on your leg as opposed to hanging it on your peg for that long it definitely helps. My bike is also a little more uncomfortable probably to ride than many others.
@cnrom Жыл бұрын
7 minutes long!!! Is this for real??
@TheGrandmaMoses Жыл бұрын
There is one reason and one reason only that can be used to defend 'no waddling', it's rather simple actually. Normally, it is said that you're not supposed to waddle because you then can use the rear brake at all times when stopping or moving at walking speed. That's the only reason why waddling is deemed unacceptable BY SOME PEOPLE. This, to me, has two benefits: Firstly, if you're the last one to stop at a red light, you can easily light up your rear light, even tap it multiple times while coming to a halt and thus ensure other people will see you and not rear-end you ( think: stop right behind a crest ). And if they do rear end you while you stand still, you will not fall automatically as you would with the front brake engaged. Secondly, it's way easier to start moving when going up a hill with the rear brake engaged, using it like you would engage the handbrake in a car in this situation. If you're not on a hill and some cars behind you at a red light have stopped, I can't really see any detriment to waddling. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that it even reduces fatigue. Simply try to not do it in situations where it's detrimental and do it freely everywhere else. Also also, waddling allows for neutral at red lights. 'Left foot down' always automatically leads to 'always stop in first gear' - if you stand on your left leg, it is never going to be able to do any sort of shifting, so neutral is never an option as you can't get into first gear when the light goes green. So you HAVE to stress your left hand for minute upon minute pulling the clutch, no alternative. Having to hold the clutch for three minutes to not look like a noob simply cannot be the way. Just think for yourself and you'll see that waddling sometimes is a noob thing to do when in the wrong situation, and sometimes it's a pro thing to do when in the right situation.
@MaaZeus3 жыл бұрын
Okay I have to call bullshit on the first part, sort of. Yes on a track it is true that you want to ride with the balls of your feet but on the road is not a track and you want to have your feet as close to the brake and gear levels in case of something surprising happening in front of you, every millisecond counts. It is usually more relaxed posture too, unnecessary tension is not good on longer trips. Now of course the style of the bike matters, you do not want to have your toes scrape against the asphalt during turns.
@yammienoob3 жыл бұрын
move to your heel to activate shift lever or rear brake - otherwise keep the ball of the foot on the peg.
@MaaZeus3 жыл бұрын
@@yammienoob I realise that, but it is a much longer distance than if you drive with the archs of your feet. I should clarify though, I am a cruiser boy and 99% of anything I drive comes with mids or forwards, even floorboards so my mindset may be completely different from yours on the matter.

I saw a video of a motoGP rider when he actually used the heel, no the balls of his feet, so he could shift faster. At least on the left foot.
@Dangerwiggles3 жыл бұрын
So it will be closer to the controls in case something happens? How about when you lose traction and you need to actuate the foot pegs and end up jamming on the rear brake accidentally because you had bad foot position? Good way to highside. There are times under emergency maneuvers that you need to weight the pegs for stability and control. Floppy feet don't let you have that control. Learning where your controls are and how to properly use them is the most important part. You can easily adjust your feet off of the balls to use controls even under emergency situations if you have practiced. Don't hide behind your insecurity, learn something that will actually save your life.

I could not care less what someone else thinks about how I look on my bike. I ride for comfort and cruising and some "me" time. I couldn't care less if someone thinks I'm a new rider just because I don't look like an idiot on a cruiser with a hydration pack and the balls of my feet on my pegs. This is just bad advice to you new riders out there. Do what feels comfortable to you and to ensure you don't drop your bike. Who gives a rip. Waddle away if it means not dropping your bike and ride however you can get comfortable. 99% of us aren't track day riders so this doesn't pertain to any sort of street riding. The hydration pack thing is about the dumbest thing I've heard today and that's saying something seeing as how I was browsing reddit earlier.

Ive only been riding for 52 years. I dont own a car. I ride almost every day. I live 200 kms from a traffic light in any direction. IO didnt realise i was so useless . But i guess if one wants to make You Tube vids talking to people who only WANT to ride.. anyway. Time to ride home .

I mean yeah bring some water obviously if you're going on a dang trip or something along them lines but otherwise just stop by the dadgum store like i do. Now i do most of the time ride with a backpack on to carry certain things regardless. Also,hey boys and girls you better wear your seatbelt on your motorcycle and make sure you ALWAYS and i mean ALWAYS check your motorcycles windshield wiper fluid before leaving that dadgum house boy,you hear me boy??

I've been riding for just over 7 years, and I can agree with him regarding the safety points (unstrapped helmet, proper boots, and OEM tires) but everything else is personal preference. You wanna waddle walk in the parking lot? go at it man, who cares if people think its silly. Do you have control over your bike? that is all that matters. If you are casually riding, who cares where your feet are positioned. Can you respond quickly (i.e. shift gears or brake). if yes then keep doing you. If you are riding more aggressively, then yes you should tuck in and have a more "athletic" footing. Also, 11min video and 7 sponsored ads. GTFO.
@tylerbreeden77352 жыл бұрын
You should have an aggressive stance as much as possible. It makes responding to incoming cars and obstacles that much safer.
@Wonderbacon2 жыл бұрын
First, I wanna address one thing you said, foot position doesn't matter. It really does, my first wreck was having my heels on the pegs feet dangling, did a little turn, and my foot got hit, dragged down into a low side. Completely avoidable if I was on the balls of me feet like normal. Further, just because you seem mad, there was only one sponsored ad. The rest are for his store (you can't sponsor yourself) and were references to things you should buy, not saying buy it from him. It felt more like he was just showing that the casual boots were acceptable and showing a range of boots up. Honestly, if he has something on his store I would normally buy at Revzilla, I get it from him just to get the free bike entries, since its all the same price/shipping. I got a cardo and a riding hoodie there, I didn't like the shoe options he had, so I just got something else, no skin off my dick.

I disagree with a lot of things said here, I'm perfectly fine wearing my sneakers. They are not high tops but they are comfortable. I waddle my bike sometimes, especially when turning around in a parking lot or something when there's not enough room to actually make the turn. I also think a hydration pack is unnecessary as I usually don't ride for more then an hour without stopping too fuel up and have a coffee and a drink of water. I usually plant 2 feet on the ground at stop lights because you never know when a gust of wind is gonna hit you and you lose balance, I think you are just being really judgmental and kind of an asshole. Ride how you want too and don't try to force it onto someone else, I think everybody should ride how they feel comfortable. What matters in the end is you make home alive.
@jochenstacker74482 жыл бұрын
Agreed with most of that, I just approach the traffic light a bit differently. I have my left foot down, left hand holding the clutch, right foot on brake and right hand ready to go on the throttle. That way I can just get off the line quickly. Though if I'm a few cars back, I do pop it in neutral and put both feet on the ground and relax my hands. So I can see where you're coming from. The wind doesn't bother me as much.

Some of what he said definitely only really applies to certain activities. If you're just cruising around or tooling along the highway I don't think you really need a bcakpack baby bottle. The same goes for footwear. For commuting or cruising around as long as your footwear isn't flip-flops or slipons (and has something fairly grippy for a sole) you're probably going to be okay. Waddling the bike also has a lot to do with what kind of bike you're riding and where. The foot position is also extremely bike-specific in addition to what's appropriate/necessary for what the rider is actually trying to do. The points about the helmet and tires are spot on. Seems like a fair portion of this video is the presenter being an elitist douchecanoe. I've noticed this before on some of this channel's vids.

Yammie is my new favorite person. I love how he talks down to other riders who have been riding their entire life! it's amazing that he's become such a master motorcycle rider in 7 years and a beast on the track. He doesn't have time for "weekend riders". absolutely not. it doesn't matter if you are a licensed motorcycle mechanic and have rode every day for the past 30 years, he is better than you and knows more about bikes than you'll ever know. I mean if he didn't he wouldn't have a channel right?....Honestly I liked yammie up until I saw him talking down to other riders who disagreed with him and he called them weekend riders when he doesn't know them. we get it Yam, you make money talking about motorcycles after reading the stats on the companies. It's good to know you can read the brochure.
