Tip: Thievery 1 on fane, unlocks everything in Fort Joy and to steal from anyone just split your party and talk to the merchant, then switch to Fane (or whoever with thievery) allows you to freely pick some items and gold. Then you can fight them, you won't encounter most of them again in the game, and loot them. Got out of Fort Joy with level 5 and three rows of skillbooks. Tip 2: Every character requires a different composition, but memory is the most important stat for anyone. Don't just blindly give memory points to your characters, but memory should nearly always be paired with the other higher stat of the character. At least until level 8 or 9 (but I assure you wizards or hybrid classes want it forever).

The Definitive Edition might have added some earlier. IIRC the original edition didn't have any on the ship. I think it required a mod for that, and then the DE just made the mod part of the game itself.

Don't do what he says for Migo's questline. Just don't. You're missing out on a ton of gold and a decent (better than Hildur's plate) stating breastplate if you do. Migo's questline can be resolved as follows: Find a yarrow flower (there's one at the bottom of the broken bridge where you get the shovel and bedroll) > talk to Migo and select the dialogue that gives him the yarrow flower > receive Migo's ring > take the ring to Magister Yarrow and tell her where Migo is > return to Migo and talk to both of them. Doing this will complete the quest and you will receive the Magister's Key, quest rewards, and exp. What's important is the key, behind the plague lady's tent there's a crumbling castle with a ladder that's not within reach. Teleport up to the ladder and you can release it for the rest of your party to use. Once you're up be sure to sneak. At this point going left (sneaking) will eventually lead you to a red tent with a breastplate sitting in it that can easily be stolen. It's worth mentioning that there is one guard patrolling this area so be sure to quicksave often as being caught is certain death. Once you've returned with the breastplate opening the door with the Magister's Key that you got from Magister Yarrow will bring you to a room filled with expensive paintings, loot, and a blood rain skill book. (Note: the heavier paintings will leave you immobile, I like to talk to a merchant with my barter character while my strength character picks up the painting then transfers it to the barter character's inventory to sell). The rest of what's explorable in the Magister's castle contains a decent amount of valuable paintings and what's probably the quickest and easiest escape route from fort joy in the game (take a left after the first room, then a right, then a left, sneak (duh) move the boxes and you're free). Also Migo and Yarrow's lives are already pretty sad no need to make it harder on them by killing them. Lol, sorry for the super long post. Also sorry for my shitty directions, try a video guide if this didn't help.

Well, the healing ring is cool and all but not necessary. Whats much more important is that giving the ring back to magister yarrow earns you the "hero" tag in addition to your other 2 tags (like "soldier" or "mystic"). This tag unlocks unique dialoque actions which is pretty cool and can be usefull!

You can also get the Hero tag by doing a quest for Griff, When you find out who stole his orange. If you don't sell the thief down the river, you'll have to fight Griff's whole crew, but whoever talks to Griff before the start of the fight gets the hero tag.

It occured to me that I killed him before I talked to Yarrow. I thought it was one of those situations where you cant back off from fight. I am playing on the second hardest difficulty, and it took me a few tries to beat him (had only 3 party members at that time. I was kinda pissed she took the ring from me, so I, ehmm...pickpockted it from her. I am not cold when it comes to loot, but restoration ring is gold worthy, and the armor is essential for my frontier lizard >:) Also the hero tag I received after confrontig Griff... good thing I had Butter on my side or I might of never life through it, had all my members except my own down.

When the guard killed my kitty I attempted to fucking murder them all... then failed and proceded to reload a recent file and to stayed withing some distance of cat murdering guard. A couple levels lated when I accidentally got into a fight with some guards and manage to killed them and knew I was able I went to the door and rightfully killed the guard for the sin he could have commited in another timeline.

I did this as well and the fights take less time and I almost never lose a party member. Those first 6 or 7 levels are crucial for your party. You don't want to be spending an hour+ for every battle because you botched up your builds all the way to Act 2. *Pro tip: Go with an all physical damage party on your first playthrough it's so much easier than balancing physical/magical. If you set it up like Tank > Rogue > Hunter/Summoner > Enchanter (2 in all elements for the buff skills and then Necro, because it does physical damage yet scales off intelligence.) This is what I did and now I'm flying through each fight. I'll get more creative on the next playthrough but I've never really been a wizard Harry!

Playing hide and seek with the child in the cave, gives you a really good spear that can petrify enemies. As well as give you help from a spirit later on in the game, if you set him free.

Bedroll is already to be found on the starter ship in the main room. and a shovel = bowl + long branch Lone wolf with 1 companion is OP, using dual summoners/necromancers. Seriously, give it a try My favourite tip: Use 1 character to talk to npc, use other to sneak behind the npc and pickpocket all the skillbooks, you need and learn them before npc finds out he got robbed (using skillbook deletes it from inv.) or just teleport the thief away to a waypoint and have the npc search the character that remains behind.

Thievery tips: Every people that sell stuff have their items in their inventory which mean, can be stolen. 1. distract the npc with another character 2. put yourself into sneak mod behind him 3. click on the character (carefull about other npcs running around, if you are in a deep red zone, you'll fail) 4. get out as far as possible, they will look for some sec for you You have 1 stealing shot per target so use the guy with the highest thievery so you can steal as much stuff as possible. It's very usefull if you want to get spells, equipement and resurection scroll easily

Little tip for some food recipes and bedroll: while you're on the ship, there are a few bedrolls on the bunk beds in the center. Also opposite the door to the dining room(triggers cutscene) you will find Ifan and a guard. There is a door behind ifan that goes to the kitchen, grape the key from a nearby barrel and go inside, you will find some food items and on the wall is a paper sheet, click it to learn a handful of recipes.

After one character becomes "The One" from the arena and gets their collar removed they can then lose in a battle to another party member in the arena for them to also get their collar removed by the Tinkerer.

Tip: Necromancer class is really strong if you combo it with a tank. I picked Ifan as a knight with a necromancey subclass. He never dies and dishes out so much damage after you leave the fort.

One thing you can do after completing the final engagement you wish on the island is to speak to the well in Braccus Rex’s tower after saturating it with water. Typically, you will be at or near level 9 (or 10 if you are a psychopath) when you’ve finished all the duties on Fort Joy. This is important to do at this stage, because the rewards forthcoming scale to your current level, meaning stronger stat rolls. Save before paying the well’s fare for 150 gold, and keep rolling for the ring or belt that you want. After that, use the Mask of the Shapeshifter that you can find on Wendigo or if Fane can create one to change into another race to pay the toll again for another ring or belt! You can always save before paying the fare for a quick re-roll. Just always make sure to save after receiving one with enough stats that help your character, never want something tragic to happen like quickloading on accident after a god roll.

Tips: 1) Elves can eat dead limbs, torsos, heads, and other body parts for story info and even learning some free permanent skills. Whether you make an elf, use Sebille from the start, or recruit Sebille to your party - don't forget to have Sebille (or your own elves) pick up and eat dead limbs. 2) Ifan (as his default Wayfarer class) is IMHO the easiest starting character, and his Pet Pals perk allows for conversations/quests with animals. Having a ranged physical damage dealer early and mid game makes things a lot easier if you know how to use and position him in a fight. Give him the Elemental Ranger talent to ensure his continued usefulness in combat throughout the game. 3) Gold early on in Fort Joy is hard to find, so getting skillbooks and items quickly by putting 2 or 3 points in Thievery on one character can make things a lot easier. However, make sure to save often before attempting such theft, and remember that after successfully pickpocketing someone once and closing the pop-up - you cannot pickpocket them again thereafter. 4) Fane and undead characters in general present a lot of unique challenges, so I would honestly recommend not using them as at least your "main" character until you are better familiar with the mechanics. Poison pools and spells heal them, Healing spells hurt them, and many NPCs will react with fear or disgust without the proper precautions or masks/hoods equipped. Best advantage undead have is that their bony limbs can be used as free Lockpicks for chests and doors - assuming their Thievery skill rating is pumped high enough. 5) Healing and elemental skills (Pyromancy, Hydrosophist, Aerotheurge) are great, but you might find a point or two in Summoning magic with the Conjure Incarnate skill, or Polymorphism and the Chicken Claw skill to be invaluable (hex enemies by turning them into chickens!). Fane and Lohse are probably the best characters overall to put points in Summoning, while Beast, Sebille, or The Red Prince are best for Polymorphism. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised :) .

Another tip for before arriving at Fort Joy, if you take thievery one, you can steal the healing potions, and revive scrolls from the unconscious companions, after Windego's source blast. If you talk to the companions again when you meet them they will have their items back, and you can get multiple healing items and revive scrolls.

RE : black cat : tip: if u want to keep it safe , stand somewhere safe, go in stealth(sneak)preferably outside the fort and away from walls, and use your waypoint travel , the cat will stay there and far out of harms way as u walk around , when u see it appear again do the same, eventually when u are far enough and made it "safe" for it to be around u (wink wink) it will automatically appear near u again :)

You can actually steal the ring back after you get the hero tag as long and you pickpocket her while she is still in dialogue with you during the ring exchange. Both her and yarrow survive plus you get a ring 😊

here is a tip for Fort Joy > get as strong as possible lv 5-7 and then slowly proceed to kill ALL possible NPCS on the island ( that is after uve completed all the possible quests and used your thieving skills to get all the possible good shit from merchants and what not) > proceed to wipe out all the magisters > in the dungeon, outside the gate, on top of the castle, inside of the castle, inside the caves > and ofc on ur way out of fort joy) kill everyone and everything and take everything from golden spoons to a watermelon, any items u find u can sell for gold! this way u maximize the amount of experience u get and u will be higher level before moving on to the next area > u wanna do this in each part of the game to become stronger > also i highly recommend people look up "Lone wolf" guides on youtube to c how u can maximize your damage

For those who like to play Lonewolf I recomand this awesome combo : choose Human Undead : you get Dome of Protection you gain armor and magical armor each turns for 5 turns (1 action point + 1 source point) it's a very strong skill, you get also +5 % critical chance & +10% critical damage at the begining find Fane and hire him, his special power is Time Warp (2PA + 1S) at the end of your turn you gain a free round wich is OP, obviously as a undead you are immuned to poison and can open doors without lockpicks 👌 also poison heals you and makes Geomancer a great choise koz you have a lot of crowd controls, Aoe and poison Dot spells to heal yourself or mate, but there is better, what else could synergise well with Earth magic ? The strongest is Pyrotechnic : every times the geomancer create petrol and poison areas your fire spells will make them explode for a lot more extra damages, it's powerful, take as soon as you can Living Armor and raise Necromancy : every times you use a spell you recover vitality and magical armor, Savage Sortilege for more critical chances and Torturer for your Geomancer : your crowd control spells will bypass phys. & magical Armor 👌 Raise fire resistance on both characters, since you reach 100% fire and poison dmg will heal you as well magical armor.

I'm one of those "restart until it's perfect" kind of people. I redid the entrance area like 6 times before I even made it to the magister fort to escape, just trying to maximize XP and gold gains. Even then I never feel like I'm satisfied. Not gonna lie it's... become a problem... I do this in every game though. I over-prepare for things because I hate failure. When I do fail, I obsessively note everything I did wrong, restart, and do it all over again correctly.

Absolutely loving this game. I'm about 8 hours in and have only fought like 3 "major" battles. I went in as blind as I could, but I'm not really liking my character and am planning on restarting my play through now that I have a bit more knowledge of some things.

ALSO, I don't remember if it's exactly in the starting area of fort joy or the next area away, but you should kill windego, she drops some good stuff. Including a mantle that'll let you transform into a human, elf, lizard or dwarf :)

You can grab a bedroll on the boat before the fort and id recommend picking up everything along the way for donations to merchants so you get more gold and can get more gear even if you have no bartering and if you get some npcs to like you they will help you in combat so talk to everyone you can. Sorry it was so much writing but hope it helps

AWESOME GAME! Tips: a)have a healer, a tank and 2 dps, i use sebille as a ranged dps and ifan as a staby staby dps, lohse as a healer and red prince as a tank/dps. b) buy books and use them, i thought this would be a pure tank and spank game, later to find out the game is way more interesting if you actually buy books c) don't collect everything you see xD d) gold is not a problem since you can easily get it, if you have bad gear check the vendors, they restock every 30 minutes e) jesus i had a problem with reviving dead companions, had i known you coudl use ressurection scrolls, i wouldn't have reloged as much as i did xD. I think it is the only way to revive your dudes, and with a vial/flask i forgot the name f)the game has some deep hard choices and they affect your game later on g) FOR GOD SAKE MAKE YOUR AVATAR YOUR MAIN PERSUASION DUDE, I LOST 10 HOURS OF GAME IN ONE POINT BECAUSE OF THIS! ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Teleportation gloves are legit only good until you escape Fort Joy. Everything else can be obtained by either, Tactical Retreat (Huntsman Skill found by buying or stealing in from Butter in Fort Joy) Phoenix Dive (Warfare Skill found one you've reached the Sancturay of Armadia) Cloak and Daggers (Rogue Skill Found after you kill griff in Fort Joy)

I can think of only these 2 at the moment: A starter tip for fort Joy - if you choose to play Undead - never remove any clothing from your character while you are near NPCs. Literally the whole town will try to murder you. If you decide to play on lower difficulty - get Pet Pal as soon as you can. Animals know too many things in this game.

In fort joy try to solve as many situation you can. Walk all the island. Level up all you can by beating all the monsters and magisters you find in your way but be careful choosing your battles because some of them you all need to be stronger to achieve victory... All characters can get collars removed via arena. Once you are the one, go to get collar removed, switch characters and then challenge "the one" and win and then go get other collar removed. I dunno how many times this works but def works between 2 characters because my gf and I did it.

The traders who sell skill books (Warfare in the Elf Cave for example) will get new books when you reach level four. By the way, fortify removes the diseased debuff, so if you cast fortify on the necromancer skill trader you can cure her, but she will attack you. Wait until you are level four before you cure her, should you want to get most of her stuff for "free".

A tip I've experienced: Lone Wolf is overpowered. If you and a friend want to do a run together, get the Lone Wolf perk. It doubles all combat-related stats and attributes (no civil abilities) and gives you a 30% boost to health and both armor types. With this, you can get your combat stats to double their max. Another two good perks for spellcasters are the Savage Sortelige (I forget how to spell it...) which gives you Spell Crit, and Elemental Affinity, which reduces the cost of all spells as long as you are standing in that element. The latter is great for a Pyromancer (because everything's gonna be on fire anyways) or an Undead, since poison heals you, you can deal more damage while healing yourself (but it'll probably explode anyways(.

You seem to be forgetting the huge damage increase you get. At level 15 I was two-shotting most enemies with spells. Even mages fell before my pryomancy. And each person has different experiences with the game. I find battles go faster and more in my favor with Lone Wolf, and with a full party go slower and less in my favor.

I'm proud to say I love playing as undead chest-many. Wink wink There's 1-2 infinite health chest that allow you to store and make heavier in other words the chest could contain an insane weight like 6k and you can drop it in a enemy. One shot chest kill.

You can also get Dallis' two handed hammer by fighting her (and winning). The hammer is awesome and will be your go to weapon of choice up to the point you leave Ft. Joy. Avoid the Dallis / Atusa / Alexander conversation by climbing up the ladder to the right of them to enter Ft. Joy. Go off and do stuff until you get a few levels. I usually do this around level 5. Get the gloves of teleporation, and go back to where Dallis / Atusa / Alexander are and have that little conversation with them. As soon as Dallis kills Atusa, use the gloves of teleportation on her and send her as far away as you can. Her pets will run to her, but she'll start slowly walking back. Teleport her again to isolate her from her pets. Then, initiate combat. Use all the CC you can - oil, crippling shot, just use it to keep her away from you. If she gets into melee with you, then lights out. After burning her armor and health down, she'll use her plot armor to escape the fight. She'll drop the hammer (The Reckoning) and it'll be yours for the taking. Enjoy your achievement.

if you do the arena and then have your collar removed, your co op partner can then fight and defeat you to get theirs removed as well.

Don't go to the arena to fight too early. If you're not developed enough, you'll die and you won't be able to just replay it. Your only option is to reload a save state from before you entered the arena, but that may have caused you to lose a lot of progress that you made beforehand

The cat can be pretty nice in certain situations. For instance, summon the cat away from you or up high somewhere, then use the skill to swap places and you'll teleport up to the high spot and the cat will go where you were. It's just a nice teleport to have when your other stuff is on CD.

saving that cat is essential for rogue players. you can summon the cat behind an enemy, use the cat to attack, and then immediately use the swap places ability to get your rogue behind enemies. if you can combine this with a stun on the target to ensure they cant attack your rogue first, its a very profitable move

Migo's ring is turned into his daughter giving the item up. The restoration spell is available from the blue lizard too, so you don't need to keep the ring and can see the end of the Migo story.

You can easily steal the ring back from the magister after you finish the quest, earning you the xp and allowing you to keep the ring! Just make sure you save before you try to prevent screwing up the theft

I'm running as an undead Knight that started with geomancy and hydrosphist. Open with rain, corrupt the we ground with poison, stand toe to toe in poison with enemy healing you as you kill them. If they try to burn off the poison, reapply rain and corrupt the steam cloud once again applying poison to them while healing yourself. Pretty great combo

So... after getting teleportation i went from getting face wrecked to absolutely stomping people with chameleon cloak, backstabbing, chicken, and instant flee. Pretty damn game changing. And the game fails to even show you at all how most of these mechanics work. Good video

It's not failing if it was an intentional game design choice. It's purposefully vague to maximize the joy of discovery and experimentation. With a combat system as complex as Divinity's, it wouldn't make sense to force the player through painfully long tutorials which most people wouldn't be able to retain anyway. Best that they learn by doing and get the satisfaction of uncovering the game's mechanics themselves instead of suffering through menus that just tell them all the information from the start.
