7 Times You Could Go Anywhere But Probably Shouldn’t

In an open world where you can technically go anywhere but actually shouldn't, some games get creative, concocting in-world explanations for why you’re being assassinated by psychic snipers for exploring. Others just stick a bunch of nightmare monsters in your path to crunch you senseless. Consider the times videogames did such things, to our horrified dismay, and subscribe for a video like this every Thursday.
The open world in Red Dead Redemption 2, for instance, is so enormous thanks to the inclusion of a huge chunk of the map from the original Red Dead Redemption, including such fan favourite locations as Armadillo, Tumbleweed, and Thieves’ Landing.
However, if you head there too early it’s less Red Dead Redemption and more Lead Head Explosion because you are 100 percent getting shot in the face.
Yes, shot by the hordes of supernatural bounty hunters who warp into existence with the sole aim of ruining your day should you even think about trying to get into West Elizabeth prematurely.
In the fiction of the game, this is because of the ferry heist that the Van Der Linde gang pulled off in Blackwater before the game began, which has left them Wanted Dead or Alive across that region. If only someone would tell these bounty hunters about the "or Alive" bit.

That graveyard was exactly, 100% my Dark Souls experience. Except I didn't even see it as a 50/50 choice; I somehow convinced myself that the path to the undead burg wasn't a real path, at best it was a shortcut I wasn't "supposed" to know about yet, so I kept throwing myself into the skeleton meat grinder way longer than I should have. Eventually had to look up a walkthrough to tell me that I was an idiot and going the wrong way.

Roughly the same experience, lol, though the walkthrough I found said to gun it through the graveyard dodging skeletons and you can find the Zweihander, then run back dodging skeletons and go back to the fire. They’ll follow you, but you’re at the fire and you have a giant sword, so honestly, who’s the real winner at that point.

Same for me. With the ruins of the fire link shrine, it also seems so inviting like a Zelda-Game which tells you "Here is your first big dungeon to explore!" I didn't even noticed the narrow cliff path to the undead burg until much later. Only to die there a couple of times and quit out of frustration because I was hellbend to keep using the Zweihänder I didn't had the stats for

Never played any of the fromsoftware games but I've watch friends obsess over them for years. One of them platiumed elden ring in a week after it came out. Another let me start a new save on his BloodBorne and eventually lead me right to Father something I can't remember his name. I did pretty well got his health down to half

Personally, I think the worst part about the graveyard in Dark Souls 1 is that you wander in and see skeletons pulling themselves together and, as a seasoned video gamer, you think "psh, skeletons? get that morningstar and bash them up like a real Chosen Undead. Then run down and shortcut drop to the Titanite demon in the catacombs, dive past him grab the Eye of Death, run to the coffin and rest in it. Get the Gravelord Sword. This isn't easy but if accomplished you will smack up every enemy for the rest of the game.

I dunno… take a close look at that WoW character. Name? "Bearilwen"... I'm thinking maybe Ellen finally decided to try WoW and got noobstomped by random mooks. It's nothing to be ashamed of, it's perfectly normal for that to happen in games with enemy levels. It's happened to me more than once... of course it also ticks me off and when I've gained enough levels I come back and pulverize them. It also makes for an unofficial hardmode since you're fighting an enemy much higher level than you and they have much better stats. I have actually managed to pull it of some times, mainly with enemies that weren't MUCH higher level.

It’s not quite the same thing, but Subnautica doesn’t have an invisible border keeping the player in the play area. It has Adult Ghost Leviathans that spawn out of the inky abyss to tear you apart, and ensure you never want to go swimming again.

Some of these are actually quite viable with the right skills or knowledge. Hyrule Castle has a lot of high level weapons just lying around if you have the skills to avoid getting hit, and if you can pick up a Thunderblade you can stun enemies to steal their weapons too. Dark Souls' catacombs are easy enough to rush if you know where to drop down, and has both a few nice items to grab and a relatively squishy boss worth a ton of souls (I say squishy because Pinwheel is actually genuinely threatening to a low level character with an unupgraded weapon). I've also gotten to New Vegas both by climbing over the Deathclaws' heads to the East and by sneaking past the Cazadores to the West. Most of the enemies on the Throat of the World do level scale, which makes most of the climb easier at low levels when you don't have to worry about Snowy Saber cats and Snow Bears. The guaranteed Frost Troll is awful... but it's also slower than you are. If you just run past instead of assuming you need to murder anything hostile, you'll be fine.

In Dark Souls you neglected to mention the one other 'wrong' direction you can go, down into the New Londo Ruins. You may think this is the right way at first because there are a few items to pick up, barrels to smash, and enemies that don't attack you. Classic early game fare. Then you cross a narrow walkway into a flooded ruin only to have ghosts phase through the walls and surround you. So they can break the rules and walk through walls while there is instant death water all around you? Nice trick, this should be tough! Except one final trick, your weapons cannot harm them literally at all. You will die and you never had a chance. Worst yet, one of the items you find allows you to hit them, and you can even buy this item from an early area shopkeep, though it will cost a lot for your low level character. But these items last less than a minute, and the ghosts are still nearly impossible with their long arms, ambush tactics, and nearly instant death moves. You could waste a lot of time down there bashing your head against that wall and get nowhere.

And, to add to those problems, you can only progress through the upper half of the zone as you don't get the key to drain the area until you already have the Lordvessel (about halfway through the game). You can kill the vendor to get the item, but most new players probably wouldn't know that or be too afraid to attack a friendly NPC. So not only have you fought your way through something that's tremendously difficult at a low level but now you can't progress through the rest of the zone and unlock the other exit. Meaning you now have to either fight your way back anything you ran past before, or die and lose all the souls you've gained along the way. And either way, you're going to have to come back later and do it all over again.

I'm like, 'Ah, this may never end. Clearly I'm missing something.' But it takes 10 seconds to get there from Firelink Shrine so you can figure that out pretty quickly. New Londo takes longer to get to and can trick you.

I've actually gotten past the cazadores, but not without the Mercenary's Grenade Rifle. However, I didn't want to go to Vegas. I wanted to get the extra experience and the Trail Carbine. Also, to mark the Mt. Ranch State Park for killing bighorners for experience.

My first time climbing the 7000 steps, the frost troll was easy compared to the preceding encounter(s): First, I was ripped to shreds by a bear living near the cave just across the bridge from Ivarstad. I beat it by kiting it up the switchbacks and chipping away at its health. Then, I met an ice bear near the top of the switchbacks and wound up kiting it into a pair of ice wraiths near where Oxtra started the rocket boots challenge. Fortunately, the bear walked into one of the wraiths' ice effects and turned against them. I killed one of the wraiths and saw that the bear was busy with the other, so I thought I'd leave. I was wrong. A dragon strafed the three of us, and I had to fight the bear and the wraith to get back to the relative safety of the tree-lined switchbacks. Then I fought the dragon. Sword and board. Overencumbered by the dragon parts, I rolled back to Ivarstad to sell some things and started the ascent again. As I said, the frost troll was easy by comparison.

Oscar Mike I read theories on why Pinwheel is such an easy boss and some players suggest that the Graveyard and catacombs is an early stop on your tour around Lordran. Then I remembered that past the graveyard skeletons, you got a whole army of them in the catacombs and their invincible and you have the exploding heads and you have the necromancers, and you have a ton of traps and you have Patches there and assuming you made it through all that and beat Pinwheel, then you’re gonna slog through the Tomb of Giants and realize there’s nothing there for you until later in the game. So I feel like those theories are wrong, but that’s just me.

In BotW, I’d say it’s a bigger mistake to try the (Gerudo) desert region and its dungeon (Vah Naboris) as your first devine beast, as they have the hardest enemies, the hardest dungeon, the hardest boss and the best (most OP) champion’s power. It is so difficult that not even Hyrule castle will be difficult anymore after going through the desert. The reason this is a big mistake, not a worthwhile investment, is because it makes the game so easy it becomes boring.

I once had a dragon spawn at the same place as a giant. It was incredible, a truly epic fight of terrifying proportions. After the titans of muscle and teeth duked it out, the Giant had weakened the dragon at the cost of his own life, so I started to lob arrows at the diminished beast...only to be utterly annihilated, because I still had Steel gear, and no skills of value.

You forgot Subnautica. If you go too far off map, you come to a huge underwater cliff which, if you try to explore down too far (and "too far" isn't really all that far), you get surrounded by Ghost Leviathans. If you don't have the right equipment, you're definitely gonna die.

Actually, the game instantly spawns 3 Ghost Leviathans the moment you cross into the dark area. The only reason you're not immediately swarmed is because they're spawned quite some way into the void. However, they swarm you because the game makes it so that as long as you're in the void, they know exactly where you are and hunt you down relentlessly.

Subnautica for Xbox one is bad. After exploring the Aurora I came to a medkit. That glitched me in the Aurora. Just great! 2 Reaper Leviathons spawned right next to me :/ After finally escaping through the 144p up close extra finishes that you can go through and the invisible walls. The rest of the map had no water animation and I mean NONE, The only other water I ever saw in the game was the tiny pool of water in my moon pool. Not only that but there was no fog so you could see everything. Only one bad part... The base plates that your not on don’t appear. So no trying to seek and hide from reapers. I gave up after I got a propulsion cannon and realized you can just take a peeper and put it in in your base while it floats around like it’s still in the non fictional water that doesn’t exist from past glitches.

I got away from the cops completely and lost them and there was no wanted on the screen and i was in the tall trees area i was like oh shit i actually did it....then within a few seconds several bounty hunters spawn near you and chase you...if you get too far like we did you get one shotted by some imaginary guy in the sky lol. Yep me too, it was actually pretty easy to get there. And if you wanted to kill the deathclaws along the way you could shoot at them from certain places in the mountains and they couldn't get to you. Once in New Vegas, pop a stealth boy in the gun runners store and save the game then try to steal everything in there. If you get caught just relode. You can basically start the game in New Vegas with a lot of weapons

Actually, in Fallout: NV, it's SUPER easy to get to New Vegas. You just go the route with the deathclaws and hug that plateau on the right. Then, you go around and into Camp McCarren, picking up a dead soldier uniform from the gang fights around it, then ride the monorail into Vegas without paying the entrance cost.

I always take the road with the cazadors. I just skirt the edge, snipe about four of them that block the road and keep going. The real challenge is when you reach Bonny Springs where a heavily armed group of Viper gang members live. But beating them gets you a grenade rifle, plasma grenades, reinforced metal and combat armor and a trail carbine. Great rewards well worth the risk.

I prefer just running through the mutant territorry at Black Mountain. At a low level they only have some old hunting rifles, no big threat. Also you can find a StealthBoy in the Goodspring schoolhouse safe. Though when I'm past that I take the eastern route around the city (not too far east, because when you enter Boulder City, you advance the main quest and lose prior quests towards finding your attackers), so I can plunder the destroyed caravan (there's two combat armors and more) before I go to the Gun Runners. THEN I might start to care about the main plot.

She’s at level 24 and they want her at level 28, and then the target of the suggested level is at level 32 and you ask why did they suggest level 28? If the number is red, I’m no match. I can somewhat understand FNV. The cazadors and deathclaws are placed very deliberatly making going straight to vegas the toughest road in the game. Wolves and Trolls up Mt Hrothgar though? Neither of those is that hard to kill at lvl1 with an iron dagger.

In almost all my playthroughs of new vegas I've pretty much went to new vegas right away, maybe kill the powder gangers, but still a pretty straight route. The 2000 cap credit check is more of a restriction and even that's a joke.

In the first dungeon you go to, if you’re following the story, has a Paralysis potion and some magic scrolls. Apply paralysis to your weapon, and blast him with high level scrolls. The troll is basically an exam to see if you’re using everything at your disposal.

huh, Learned something. I had heard Dark Souls was hard, went straight to the graveyard since the underground was scary and full of invulnerable ghosts, and ground through the skeletons over and over and over. Figured since I kept dying that I just needed to "get gud". Got to the point where I was practically farming skeletons, even the giant, as I has their patterns memorized. Made it past and through the next section even with the dark cave with the will o' wisps AND the cliffs with more skeletons. Then I got absolutely stomped but a weird eyeless boss thing. Said "fuck this, this game is ridiculous, why does anyone like it?" and never played again. Apparently there was a third path I never found.

Early in it's release, I was able to explore New Austin as Arthur and the remaining areas. The strange thing is, Arthur can interact with a lot of people in New Austin in unique ways. For example, the Del Lobos that you encounter your first time in Armadillo, Arthur can talk to them. After they kill the town sheriff, at least. I don't see a reason why all of New Austin is in the game, honestly. The closest story mission is in the epilogue and you only go to Pikes Basin. Canonically, John has never been to New Austin either.

I personally call it "Thors Gun", anyway in Just Cause 2 there's an island that isn't part of any territory to the NorthWest. I tried to travel there until I was struck down via lightning. As it turns out it's a mission island where they weaponized the weather and used lightning on planes, waves on boats and people swimming. Unlike Falco Island however there's no super prize like Thors Gun.

Another method is to aggro the troll and run away. There’s an NPC (katria) by one of the shrines that will help you fight it. I’m usually leveled well by the time I go up, but he can be a bit tricky for stabby /stealth or pure mage glass cannon characters

Its funny, for me I encountered the spider in the quest where you're supposed to get the golden claw and basically start the main quest line and assumed that was one of those sort of things where it's a hint you're too low level so I went off and did the Thieves Guild, Companions, Dark Brotherhood and College of Winterhold Questlines before coming back and fighting the spider, at which point I was about level 67 or so, it was a very easy fight and it was the first time I played through Skyrim, having gone into it with 0 information on it, I couldn't believe it when I found out I had missed out on shouts in their entirety for the side quests as well as dragon fights.

it's called a Taratula Hawk, and it is a solitary, desert-dwelling wasp which kills tarantulas as part of its reproductive cycle. Females sting tarantulas to paralyze them, then lay their eggs on the immobile spider. The young eat the (unfortunately still living) spider when they hatch. The Tarantula Hawk is consistently reported to have one of the most painful (top 10 or even top 5) insect stings in the entire world.

honestly, the last two are a stretch. WoW lists recommended player level for each area. you're pretty daft to go in there at the very beginning. plus, its not just felwood that has this sort of characteristic of "high level next to low level area". and as for the skyrim part, you get to level 3 or 4 around the time that you get to go to the throat of the world, which isnt a huge difference from doing it at level 2 (pretty sure by the end of the beginning area you get to level 2). i've never had troubles fighting off the simple wolves and a singular frost troll.

one of the first times playing skyrim, my friend was like "there's an ice troll up there" and I said "so?" and then he snapped "do you want to die?" and I ended up shouting it off of the mountain with above 75% of my health which was completely unexpected, but I was proud of myself, I showed that troll and my friend. (I was like 8 years old too XD)

Subnautica. Nothing really stopping you from exploring the surface regions and some of the deeper ones right from the start. Except the game's fauna will mercilessly hunt you down and make you part of the food chain if you go in ill prepared (like without heavily armored submarines)

don't forget vetter's echo, that cabin in big valley with the grizzly bear in it! NEVER go through the front door, it's waiting for you right as you enter! scared the shit outta me, TWICE lol. the back door is open and shoot inside from a distance. if you don't shoot the bear already, it will wander out of the cabin. it's worth it, inside the cabin there's 2 cigarette cards, a pocket watch, a pipe that you sell or give to dutch, and a poem. the poor feller that lived there was a poet. (there's also a cheat code hidden in a drawer)
