But then they got on a high horse regarding the kitty-videos (i mean yeah they are disgusting as well, but... it‘s always a red flag if someone will throw another human under the bus and then emphasize how much they care about cute animals) That OP sounded really sketchy.

It might seem a little tone deaf and insensitive for me to say this, so I'll try to say it as tactfully as possible. Let me first say I understand why OP from the first story would think "no one online is really your friend until you meet them" because they had an extremely traumatic experience. However, I wish they would understand that their bias is showing by making such a statement, because such an absolute and black-and-white statement is unrealistic at best, disillusioned at worst. It's always good to caution people to be careful on the internet and who to open up to and how much you should reveal about yourself to the world; THAT I can CERTAINLY agree with. But no, I've had lots of wonderful friends I've met online that are definitely who they say they are and despite not meeting them, I'd say that voice and video chat is a pretty close second.
@Shanook4 жыл бұрын
The last story scares me. Cops that use their power to instill fear into civilians are horrible people. I have always been respectful to cops, not because they're cops but because I know they're doing a job and just like anyone else doing job be it working at McDonalds, a gas station, or anywhere else I treat them like I want to be treated. But my girlfriend, on the other hand, has had horrible experiences with law enforcement. She is very untrusting of them and one time when we got pulled over she was really impatient with them. She knows her rights more than I do and when I say she knows her rights shes not one of those people who blabber "I know my rights" when confronting a cop. Shes studied this stuff like it was the bible. Stories like this scare me because I fear that one day she will run into a cop who won't tolerate her impatience.

@Yul Hubbart Totally agree. I understand COMPLETELY why they felt that way about talking to people online because they had a traumatic experience. And it's always a very good thing to remind people to be cautious and skeptical online and keep your wits about you, but to tell everyone that their online friends are only a lie or illusion and aren't real people and are all catfishers is unrealistic at best. I wish OP would have actually thought about how that could be taken the wrong way before typing it.

@meganharrison66794 жыл бұрын
So the last story, the dude is a cop so this means he can jokingly dish insults out but the minute someone says one to him all of a sudden it’s taking it “too far”? How it is right that the storyteller can’t say anything insulting but the cop can threaten people including children? If the story is true I’d be searching officers named “Brent” as his fellow cop gave up his name. Figure out who he is and make sure he knows it!!! This is the problem with cop mentality, they’re above the law and can do whatever they wish many times the very things they charge and arrest others for.
@scottyp25054 жыл бұрын
Megan Harrison you do realize there are over a million cops in this US and to think they all behave like that is ridiculous. Stop watching so much tv. I’m sure the story isn’t even true like most of the scary stories on KZbin.
@meganharrison66794 жыл бұрын
Scotty P I have very little time for TV so maybe don’t assume as it makes you appear to be an ass! My views of some law enforcement officers is based off personal experience as I dated a cop for 4 years, who was also the son of a lifetime officer. Not to mention my mother dated a cop for 5 years. All 3 were more crooked than the people they arrested!
@meganharrison66794 жыл бұрын
M Serra like any area of employment there are going to be amazing and horrendous people who make up that profession. I have worked with some amazing doctors as well as some horrible ones that I swear got their license from a Cracker Jack box. There is an old saying that goes something like 10% of the police officers do 90% of the work. I believe this to be true. My grandmothers uncle (figured that was easier than me saying my great great great uncle lol) was a lifetime officer and like your uncle he too was an amazing man. (He was also a WWII veteran) I count myself lucky to have known him and sadly he passed away just last year at the age of 98! It’s just sad that it’s becoming more common (at least it seems this way) for officers of the law to be corrupt and have the “above the law” mentality. So again I’m not saying ALL officers are rotten, the ones who are need to be held accountable. For example It’s not ethical for citizens to be held to one set of laws and officers to not have to follow those same laws.
@scottyp25054 жыл бұрын
Megan Harrison yeah I’m sure 🤣 you don’t have time to watch tv but make up a story of knowing cops with about 40 years of a career and all crooked. Get a life loser

drive-by downloads are possible, although it would be hard to sneak something that big past someone. It would depend on how they exchanged the files, if OP used an FTP direct connection, it's not at all impossible that the pervert used that connection to get access. FTP is REALLY vulnerable if you don't know how to secure it properly. And since an open FTP server doesn't have to generate system warnings, it's entirely possible. Although I'd recommend to anyone who doesn't even know how to properly secure an FTP server to stay the hell off places like the deep web. You pretty much lose all (or most) of the nifty protections Apple, Google and Microsoft have worked hard to implement into browsers and OSes.

I disagree with the mentality some people show of internet friends not being real, or at least not as much as people you know in person. Of course you should always show more caution with people online, avoid revealing more than is necessary and don't meet up with people on your own. Someone you met offline could be just as dangerous so people should treat anyone with caution, especially if any red flags show up.

I have suspicions that the story is a fake. The deep web is perfectly safe if you're not a total idiot about it (see the deep web browsing series done by the channel SomeOrdinaryGamers, he shows that it's very safe). The reason I feel the story is fake however is that destroying an entire laptop over the risk of an illicit file is an absurd overreaction when you could literally just take out the hard drive and destroy that instead. Either the story is a fake or the poster is an idiot.

Last story summary: F the police. A police officer, a person who’s alleged job it is to keep the community safe, threatened a man’s children over a petty insult on the internet, and then told his cop buddy to intimidate him at a festival. In a just world all these cops would be investigated and prosecuted.

That cop at the end had no business in that chatroom if his feelings were hurt so easily.

This video is three years old but that last story about the cop who threatened that forum guy's family over a dumb insult online fills me with so much rage, I hope the guy was able to do something about it, be it denounce the cops to their superior or the superior of their superior, it such a vile thing to do for a man, now imagine having your whole department happily endorse you threatening to harm someone's children. Absolutely vile

Dude you really need to post animal torture warnings before said videos in the timestamp. This is like the third one I have not wanted to hear now on this channel. 😭

Soooo lemme get this straight, strangers on the internet can be mean and/or creepy or, not who they say they are at all? Well I'll be damned 😂how bout that! Who'd thought it!

Hey let's read, can you put a trigger warning in story six about 30:00 in? Ive listened to almost all your videos and this is the only one-- the one about the deep web-- that even hinted at animal abuse, so I had to fast forward. Thank you!
@RukasSkirkevicius4 жыл бұрын
30:30 who would call you a child for being upset over this type of horrible act.. Every good person would be sadden as hell.. The fact that this type of content exists and someone actually gets off by this is fucking disgusting. What a pile of trash these people are.

NEVER ever friend a person on the internet unless you know them, and very well at that. It's bad enough in story one, that they lost a family member, let alone be tortured later on.

Are these real? I get thrown off when its a human voice and not the robot voice. For some reason the robot voice sounds more nonfiction, and the human voice sounds like a Nolanesque voice over.
