I'm new... And wanted to thank you, Joel. The only thing that helps me rest and turn off my racing thoughts is listening to your voice and stories. My son is 21 and we have been estranged for too long as I am a recovering addict who made so many bad choices he had no other choice than to keep me at bay... From "I'll never be you old to hold your hand, Mama " to one word answers during phone calls... And ultimately cutting ties to literally protect his heart from being broken again and again... I apologize for rambling but the point to all of this is your voice sounds almost identical to his. And I somehow find comfort in that. So thank you!

Hello fellow Let's Read fan, and fellow Internet stranger! I came across your comment and just want you to know I'm proud of you! Recovering from any addiction is tough. But to admit this to a whole bunch of random strangers and to acknowledge that you've made poor choices, that's bold and courageous! Wherever you are in your recovery, I have complete faith in you and I know you have what it takes to overcome any and all challenges and temptations. I genuinely hope you and your son are able to salvage your relationship. Keep on fighting, my friend! 💪💪💪💙💙💙

I'm 11 years clean. Hardest thing that I've ever done, but you CAN do this. You ARE doing it. Sadly, it can take our loved ones a while before they want to work on rebuilding trusts and relationship. It hurts, but it also forces you to work on YOU. Take care of yourself and distract yourself as best you can with things like Let's Read here. I wish you well. YOU GOT THIS❤

Props to the little league coach. I coach my nephew's team. It is one of the most difficult things I've ever done while simultaneously being one of the most rewarding things I've ever done. Some of the kids desperately need a positive male figure in their lives and it breaks my heart when I can see them basically begging for me to not only teach them how to play baseball, but also how to be a good man. Hopefully I'm doing a good job. I'm not pefect, but I try my best. I just Wish their own fathers and uncles were around to show them these things, but for many of them they have nothing. I'm happy to do it, but for their sake I wish it didn't have to be that way... If anybody reading this has an opportunity to coach, mentor, or teach kids and you have the skills for it, give it a try. You won't regret it.

The story about the guy throwing little bags in the river... I think it was kittens or something awful like that. It reminded me of a story my sister told me when she lived in New York and saved a kitten from this Amish girl who was told to drown kittens in the river!

The amount of people who find strangers living in their houses is mind blowing. I put it down to American homes being very insecure. Huge glass windows, doors with half a glass window, no shutters of any kind and even the front doors are flimsy. They’re si damn easy to get into.

The story with the dude living in the attic....reminds me of a film I stumbled on a couple years ago. It was from New Zealand and was called: "House Bound" It was marketed as horror, but was more a comedy than anything else. Laughed until my sides ached. If you can ever find it folks, it is so worth a watch. EUGENE!!!!

Story 6, I have a theory or two. The fact that the guy was crying leads me to believe it has to do with some kind of loss. Maybe all the individual little bags he threw in the river were personal property of someone who left him, an ex romantic partner. Or someone who died. Maybe they were ashes of a cremated loved one. Or maybe they were drugs of some kind. Maybe he decided to clean up and sober up and he was crying tears of joy for overcoming addiction, or tears of sorrow at the difficulty. I don't know, just a few thoughts... 🙂🙂🙂

That last story. A number of years back, I could hear something going on in one of my neighbors houses, but no idea where, a woman crying and saying get out. Later found out my neighbor directly across the street, Jen had been hit with, then strangled by a landline phone, by her husband. Crazy, as I knew them both, and never woulda expected that. The next day after it happened, Jen left him, threw him right out. We were neighbors and friends for awhile afterward, before she moved out. In fact so many neighbors moved around that time, I thought it was me, that made them all leave. 😂 but now got way better ones! Haha. But always missed Jen alot.. 😢

The last guy are the worst type of people in society, ending his sentence with its better to ignore the screams.
