Even though my wife and I have been stuck at home during these last few days, due to the ice and snow storms, that hit our area this week, we made the best of it by sitting down together and reminiscing, while watching these classic collections of 70's commercials, bring back so many wonderful memories for both of us.Thanks for all of the hard work in recording, collecting, organizing, listing, and categorizing all of these commercials, so that others can view them, and enjoy them. Great job.

The announcer in those CBS Fabulous February promos was Dick Tufeld. He was pretty much ubiquitous from the late 1950s to the '80s advertising everything from Rice-A-Roni to Raleigh cigarettes to Green Giant veggies, plus he was the voice of the Lost in Space Robot.

Man, that's some classic flashback stuff there. 1978 was the year I finished kindergarten and started first grade. I remember the general formats of most of those commercials from way back in my life. I'm 40 now, and I'm pretty tripped out after seeing all of that.

I am _savoring_ the nostalgia just watching these. Suddenly I'm a kid again, laying on the couch, mom is cooking dinner, the world seems so much larger, but safer, life seems full of wonder and excitement, and mystery. Can't wait till summer to play outside until after dark

This bunch of commercials are AMAZING! I am 36 but I remember alot of stuff from '78 television. I have a great memory in general but most of my memories start from the age of 3. I could read at that age and paid close attention to TV ads in particular. Thanks for putting these up. BTW The L'eggs ad is simply repugnant, I mean, really.

@manyvideoinerests It was a manufacturing arm of AT&T that produced telephones, as well as other electronic equipment and devices. The Vitaphone system that brought sound to motion pictures was developed by Western Electric, along with other advances in sound technology. In 1984, WE was swallowed up by a new division of AT&T and in 1996 became independent and split/sold its assets.

@BigBrotherMateyka Nothing beats the ones you can pick up at police and repo auctions. Older Gov't produced time machines are also worth having, and can often be obtained with the right connections. Lots of bells and whistles on those things, let me tell ya. Stay away from the Kenmore brand time machines at Sears though. My displacement annex once got fried using one of those things, and I winded up in the outer orbit of Jupiter! Very embarrassing...

@80sCommercialVault I found that government models are exorbitantly expensive. They charge you an arm and a leg for something that doesn't even go back to when MTV was decent. And that's even without the unbelievable warranty charge and insurance policy! What a ripoff! I should have also mentioned that I saw a great bargain on QVC one time, but they were sadly all out of stock. Thanks for the help anyways. I shall always be on the lookout for a new sale. Cheers. =)

Far out, man, groovy ;-) Yes, Tony had his own sitcom (imaginatively titled "The Tony Randall Show") for a couple of seasons, but it was the sting of his next (and last) sitcom in the early '80s that, apparently, kept him from ever doing another series. That one was "Love, Sidney" co-starring the divine Swoosie Kurtz. His character was written in the premiere movie as a gay man, but the show shied away from the whole controversy which ticked Tony right off. What a loss to the TV world that was!

The second actress in the Exedrin commercial, "Joe" in the Lowenbrau commercial, and "Mrs. Davis" in the AIM commercial all look familiar. Maybe they had minor roles in TV. The Dial actress looks similar to actress Caryn Richman. She would have been 21 or 22 in the commercial.

Remember, you're watching 'media'. It does not _accurately_ represent the culture it claims to. Media creates it's own culture, by _mocking culture_ (5:39) more than anything else. These commercials are as representational of the 70's, as much as today's commercials (3/16) are, of our own culture. Would _you_ want _today's_ commercials to represent our culture, _for the future_ to look back on? -Wally...
@80sCommercialVault
@80sCommercialVault 9 жыл бұрын
+sparhopper That entire argument hinges on the assumption that commercials haven't changed between the 70's and now. They absolutely represented the culture back then. Campaigns like "be a pepper" and "where's the beef" became culture defining icons. That simply doesn't happen anymore. Commercials have transformed from little time capsules into bland, soulless ads for car insurance and prescription medicine. The medium is essentially dead and has been replaced with "skip this ad in 5 seconds"
