seen more progress this month than in the last year so I hope you’re right. So many cool things I want to do when the momentum hits. More roadtrip specials for sure!

*Edit:* Note for anyone who sees this. I have learned you have to adjust your turbo power figures for a rotary. I was looking at the compressor maps and calculating HP per lb/min of air flow based on piston engines. Instead of 10HP per lb/min for a rotary it's more like 7.5HP. So the EFR 8374 for example would be in peak efficiency more around 375HP and max out at around 560HP. The S300SX-E 9180 would still be adequate though. An S400 could definitely be appropriate if the primary power goal is still in the 450-500 starting range, but it's not going to be ideal for spool. Just as an example, Rob Dahm was maxing out a G35-1050 and hitting around 600HP. The G-Series is about 10% overrated to start with, so 945HP capable on a piston engine, and 75% of that is around 700HP capable. Doesn't exactly align with what Rob is getting, but you get the point. So for an EFR the 8474 would be more appropriate. As I said, trust the builders first. Back to what I originally said! *Original comment:* If you have the money, going to a Borg Warner EFR over the SX or SX-E series will give you a wider efficiency range. Better spool and better adjustment from high to low power, basically. The 8374 has peak efficiency around 500HP and will flow up to 750HP, so might be ideal for you. If you plan to stick with SX-E which will save you money, the S400 might be a bit overkill for your application. For example the S300SX-E 9180 is in peak efficiency from 400-750HP and can stretch all the way past 1000, so plenty large. The S400 series is really meant to start at 650 or 750, though if you are looking to slow spool a bit that can make sense. That said I'm mostly a chair mechanic in this realm, looking at graphs, so trust the builders first. Anyways, awesome stuff!

All this helps! Decision still hasn’t been made so I’ll run this past them to see what the reaction is. My priorities are eliminating as much lag as possible and having as much area under the curve as possible.
@802Garage2 жыл бұрын
@@CoyWhite The EFR would be the ultimate for reducing lag and having the most power under the curve. They are, in my opinion and more importantly the opinion of many turbo experts, even ahead of the Garrett G-Series turbos. The main downsides are simply the price, though they are still cheaper than a G-Series usually, and in some extreme builds the Gamma Ti turbine wheels can experience degradation, but I believe that has been solved from early runs. The SX-E series is incredibly durable though and as long as they're sized appropriately will more than handle your goals. The channel Turbo Direct S.A has amazing videos comparing turbos if you want to go down a rabbit hole of information.

Thanks for the update on your adventures Coy. A car build is a daunting project by itself. Did you begin this project before you found the red FD?

Nope, the moment I found the red car was when it started. Now it’s a race to November to get everything done!
