We bought this stone house in Italy during the pandemic in 2020. The house was a ruin and we saved everything we could, unfortunately that meant only four stone and clay walls! The back wall, against the terrain, was close to collapse; the roof beams were eaten and basically reduced to dust; the inside separation walls were easily taken down and the whole project turned into a heavy renovation/rebuild.

In some countries you are not allowed to do these things yourself, in Sweden we cannot do electricity and plumming ourself, there is no incuranse company that will insure your house if you do it yourself and it will not pass inspection unless you are a certified plummer.

Did I see bidet connections next to the toilet? French-Italian couple: you MUST have a bidet! But anyways, it's so nice to have followed the project since the beginning and finally getting to the (sort of) end of it where the house is looking more and more like you pictured it

The plumbing installation in the video is suitable for private homes, but concerning drinking water hygiene, it's not optimal. The central distribution of pipes using a manifold leads to a lot of stagnation, promoting bacterial growth. In Germany, pipes in a public building are not allowed to be installed in this way.

The wall you built just now and the other walls you cut into seem so easy to make and they facilitate other needs for construction - so cool - and their use is environmentally sound! After all this insulation, there was no need for such an expensive stove, you could even heat it with candles. and stone walls half a meter wide already provide high insulation by themselves. They keep you cool in summer too.

The hemp and lime plaster is a "thermal correction", it is not a proper insulation layer but a material that suppress the cold touch of the stones and helps regulating the humidity in the house in order to be able to heat more efficiently. Combined with the stone walls (which have poor insulation qualities: R=1.5 or 2) it is not enough to keep a confortable temperature (18-19°C) in winter. So the stove is necessary.

Also: Make sure to install electrical wiring to your toilet. You will need it at the latest when you want to install a bidet toilet seat. and trust me: it’s worth it every penny!

We will have a bidet next to the toilet, as it is mandatory in Italy 😉

It is better to have a utility water distributor with valves to cut off individual circuits. Then you can turn off one circuit and not the entire distributor strip. As for mistakes when making them yourself, unfortunately they cannot be avoided, I have done it myself. I can only wish that everything could be improved easily

Per una persona che fa molte cose per la prima volta, senza esperienza e pratica, fai tutto molto bene. Alzare una casa del genere dalle rovine con le tue mani è qualcosa di cui non molte persone sono capaci. C'è un detto... Un vero uomo deve costruire una casa, piantare un albero e diventare padre di suo figlio nel corso della sua vita. 🙂. PS: E c'è un altro detto... Solo chi non fa nulla non commette errori nella vita. Tutti hanno errori, carenze, calcoli errati. Se tutto può essere corretto in tempo, allora non è un grosso problema. Questa è un'esperienza che non ha prezzo.

I don’t know if it is true of all countries but things like plumbing electricity and heating have to be done by a qualified person and or inspected by a licensed official. The same goes for chimney sweeping too I believe. So you do what you can and then appropriate professionals take over and insurance companies will cover you.

I think your skills are continually growing. I ‘m sure you could have done the plumbing. Modern fittings are not difficult. Constant grafting nevertheless, It must e wearying even if you are enjoying it.

It is so interesting to see how in different countries we use different methods. Here in Germany the toilet is built very differently. But i guess both work. Will the wooden construction be able to hold the toilet bowl? But again a great video.

Since you say you are an architect you at least have the knowledge of what and where you want things placed, most trades people will be happy with giving you the dimensions and locations and tips for mechanical work that you can do the rough in as its obvious you all are not scared of doing the labor . As I watched you building the knee wall in the shower I noticed you finally did pull a measurement off the wall to check for parallel but it would have been better to check against the shower wall as that is the less forgiving dimension any tile cuts on the walls and floor will be more apparent because of the smaller space and if you are installing a glass shower door that has to be spot on. I apologize if I sound demeaning which is not my intent but am just speaking from 40 years and hundreds of remodel work. Happy holidays!
