The constant highs and lows emotions of the show is actually how the mental issues are with the characters extreme highs and extreme lows they go through. They did an amazing job of taking the audience on that ride with the characters.

I appreciate your sensitivity around understanding what Debbie's experiencing. Being a younger sibling in a trauma-riddled family gives you a whole different reality. I'm so excited for you to see her character arcs!!

yeah i didn't know how to react to the debbie thing either. it's an incredibly uncomfortable situation on pretty much every front. and honestly super depressing? as much as debbie needed to be told that what she did was wrong, she also needed someone to support her emotionally and talk to her about WHY it was wrong without judging her or making weird comments about it (looking at you lip). but she was never going to get that because she's never had a single role model with healthy views on sex and consent. like. she's still a kid and the people she's been looking up to have not been setting a good example. idk i felt weird about it for a really long time after watching it. it's so fucked up and messy

The Debbie hate is way overblown. All these characters have flaws and are “bad” people at times. Debbie is a product of her own environment. She has abandonment issues and seems to be developing hyper sexuality as she’s aging.

I agree also. I think she did some pretty messed up things later on, but in this episode, this is the 21 year old’s fault. It’s pretty gross how many people talk about Debbie graping him, when he is the one who was grooming her and getting drunk with a 13 year old girl. This is why children don’t consent. It’s the responsibility of the adult. The guy was a total creep, yet for some reason Debbie gets all the hate for it.

This is the episode where I officially despised Debbie… the fact she was so obsessed with growing up so she legit s/a that guy is so disgusting and she felt no remorse for it. She became one of the worst characters

I don't know if I'm correct in this interpretation, as he's pretty hard to read as a character, but he kinda came off as just putting her off with the whole 16 thing? Like I kind of thought he just liked being friends with her, and didn't actually want to have sex with her at all, and just picked a number that seems reasonable. To be fair, he shouldn't have been friends with her at all past knowing her age, or at least should have stepped back into more of an older brotherly role or something, I don't know exactly what his intentions were supposed to be. But I don't agree with you on the last part, regardless of if you've said to someone you'll have sex with them one day, that doesn't mean they can force themselves on you. It's still rape. Unfortunately, Debbie probably had a terrible sex education, and from this point on, she never really learns what was wrong about it.

I agree but for me that gets thrown out the window when you f-ing rap3 someone. Debbie was annoying to me but tolerable bc she was a kid... but after this situation and on she became one of my most hated characters all time.

What Debbie did was definitely wrong, but let’s not forget the guy said once she was older he would sleep with her, but not yet because she was too young. That is literally grooming. Also, Debbie didn’t even understand what she did was non consensual. She is too young to understand these things and no one ever explained it to her, which is why you don’t cuddle, hold hands, flirt, and get drunk with under age girls. This is the responsibility of the 21 year old, not the 13 year old. I just get tired of all the comments shitting on Debbie instead of the adult creep who groomed an underage girl.
