The crazy thing about Laurie’s apartment is you don’t really ever see any other cars there. The theory is that she owns the whole complex which makes her scarier to me.

I completely believed Laurie when she said she's never gotten angry. She spends that time getting even. I knew the second that Laurie agreed to give Rue the suitcase, she was planning on this outcome. And Laurie confirmed it when she called Rue by her full name "Ruby Bennett". No one ever told Laurie that info, the audience didn't even know for sure that Rue was short of Ruby officially until this scene. Even if she's an addict, selling/renting out Rue has the potential to make her more that 10K back. Laurie's a business woman, she knew who she was investing in and the all the possible monetary outcomes.

When someone says "I've never gotten angry in my entire life" - that's a HUGE red flag! Psychopathy ahead! There is so much symbolism going on in that scene... the bird in the cage, the locked doors, the chipmunk next to the morphin. I'm pretty sure Laurie wanted to sex traffic Rue...

people assume that lorrie owns the apartment complex to hold trafficking victims. thats why its locked from the outside but also the inside, and the people inside cant get out. key why everything is also locked up. ppl think the birds make sound to try and cover up any sounds that come from there, to blame it on the birds. i dont know if this is accurate, but it is scary to think about!

I agree to that theory. It makes sense. The camera emphasizes the birds and certain doors that weren’t explored but were locked. It hAS to be a hint about more girls held there.

Laurie is terrifying, how calm she is. She would be terrifying to deal with, also it got taken out but the bath scene is up to interpretation but Martha Kelly (who plays Laurie) was actually supposed to do some fucked up stuff to Rue and Martha told Sam absolutely not she is not up to hurting children even if it’s for a show and Zendaya was of age. So yea, Laurie is scary lol

I remember when this episode first came out, the majority of people reacting did not understand how evil and disturbing the scene with Laurie is. In fact many of them felt like they could trust her because of how calm she is. But I’m glad you pointed out how messed up and sketchy the entire thing was.

Sam actually made it more fucked up than what’s shown and took it out what Laurie (Martha Kelly) was supposed to do which is why it’s blurred, some of that is up to interpretation with the blurred part but Martha told him absolutely not was she doing that to a kid even if it was for a show and Zendaya was of age. So for her to decline and actually get it taken out of the show must of been pretty messed up

As a meth addict in recovery (I used for 10 years, started as a trans [survival[ sex worker at the age of 19), the end with Lori still gives me absolute chills because of the fact it's REAL. I witnessed people at the highest end of their chain of command in the drug cartel I used to roll around during that age do that exact thing to complete newbies and addicts and was always taught that IV drugs "makes a customer for life" and I'm so lucky to be alive today.

What I dont understand to this day is why Eliot didn't tell Jules about the fact that the suitcaise is borrowed and flushing it would put Rue in deep shit. Because he knew about it. Rue told him at the school and he said its a brilliant ideea. Why is nobody talking about this?? :))

it’s so nice to see someone who is emotionally mature enough to understand that what jules did was the right thing and that she did it out of love. You wouldn’t believe how many people online hate Jules and think that everything Rue said to her in this episode is accurate and justified. it’s crazy how much people hate Jules in a lot of corners of the internet.

I think some of the things rue said she meant. I guess that’s why they don’t recommend newly recovering addicts get into relationships. Her leaving on the train could have truly felt like what rue described. And could have massively affected her sobriety. I personally resonated with that. When someone claims to love u but leaves u when u need them the most. Just to clarify, I don’t think in any way jules is at fault

Laurie alluded earlier that she would traffic Rue if she didn't get her money back. She also basically reiterated it with the comment about women having something people want. I found out watching another reactor who had a friend or something that's involved in the trafficking space (not a trafficker). Apparently, traffickers will keep have multiple loud animals like birds to drawn out the noise of their captives (likely who those scratching noises are from) and stuff like that. He pointed out a bunch of stuff about Laurie's place that confirmed she was a trafficker. I already found that whole scene creepy but that knowledge really made the whole thing way more intense for me.

Something that says a lot about Laurie is when she answers the door she say Ruby Bennet, which is Rue's full name. Thing is, Rue never gave Laurie her full name so for her to know it msans shes been researching Rue. I don't think this is the last we'll see of Laurie

Its not love, Jules herself admitted to only liking the feeling of being loved in S1. It almost felt like a display of power but definitely not love

I agree that Jules was right in telling rues mom but what rue said is true Jules loves being love we all fail to remember she cheated on rue knowing how much she relied on her.. not saying rue is right but that was the situation just because she saved her life she did so many wrong things in between that sort of suggest she knew rue wasn’t sober anymore I’m not blaming either of them because they are both young but putting everything off on rue isn’t fair because it definitely takes two and with the guy knowing her plan he clearly didn’t have what was best for her in mind because he let them flush all the drugs she wasn’t even suppose to have down the toilet…. Like really observing he let it happen and Jules didn’t know but she assisted in the whole thing.. and it more than likely caused rue to be sex trafficked and it will probably have to happen again unless fez interferes which he can’t now… so yeah I don’t much care for the Jules sympathy train

They do that on purpose so she has lots of needle marks so that it LOOKS like she’s a heroin junkie. That way when she for example escapes and runs to the cops, her story would be a lot less believable because ‘she is a junkie’

I still don’t rock with Jules. As an ex addict I can appreciate her telling the mom and getting the help but it did not come from a place of love AT ALL especially since you went to tell with the drug addict you’re cheating on me with (he disclosed to her that he’s a drug addict) and what Rue said held some truth. Jules herself said she loved the feeling of being loved in the first episode of S1. I just can’t like Jules and Elliot’s characters because it was never genuine
