One of the most well-acted and accurate representations of how addiction can destroy a family I’ve ever seen. I have mixed feelings about this show but this episode was masterful and Zendaya’s acting was top notch.
@pollystye3270 Жыл бұрын
I fully believe the story lines attached to Rue's addiction are the strongest because they directly relate to Sam Levinson's personal experiences (and Zendaya's frankly remarkable performance). The rest of the series really suffers from the limitations of Levinson's viewpoint/vision/fixation on juxtaposing sex with trauma.

The first time I saw this episode, I had a breakdown so bad I had to turn it off. I had a similar confrontation with my mother where I was just as cruel as Rue on my part, and it was devastating to see the damage I caused from the other side. I still have a hard time watching it as a sober individual now because knowing I acted the same as Rue is painful.

As scary as this episode was, it was honestly my favorite out of season two, but the part where Elliot said he shouldn’t of said anything, he absolutely should have, but he shouldn’t have been there, and can I just add that the minute he met Rue, in the laundry room, and she said she was going into cardiac arrest. That should give him an indication that she’s not just a functioning drug addict. Out of everyone on the show who questioned if they’re a good or bad person, I’m not saying Elliot is a bad person, but I am saying that he’s stupid… allegedly

I've been in recovery for almost 19 years and I was Rue when I hit bottom. Vicious and cruel because I couldn't face my self-hatred, so I hadbto make everyone else be suffering worse. When it comes to Jules many people just hate her for the sake of hating her. I believe she did the right thing, whether you like her or not. In real life I don't think most of us would just ask Rue why she had a suitcase full of drugs, we'd just get rid of them as fast as we can. You don't want to risk anything, but in this situation sadly Rue didn't want to come clean about it with her girlfriend when she should have (but yeah, it was a complicated situation).
@7DeadlyBananas Жыл бұрын
Agreed. I think she was fully expecting everything Rue said too. She sat there and took it. I feel she knew she deserved it but that does not over shadow her doing the right thing. And I think Elliot really just realized he entered in the middle of what could turn out to be an awful situation. When it comes to them having sex and all that, there’s a whole other convo to be had but at the end of it, they’re still young! These are the mistakes young people make. Sure it hurts but a lot of us have gone through being cheated on and turned out just fine. It hurts but it’s not the end of the world. Rue is in fact trying to end her world. Jules, and later in Elliot, knew this and did the only thing they could think of with the best chance to save Rue. And I guarantee knowing full well the shit they’d get back for it. I think there’s something be said about that and I fully back what Jules did. Elliot was a hitchhiker who came midway in the story without knowing anything previous. And Zendaya killed it 👍 she was truly awesome in her role here.
@andresf1876 Жыл бұрын
I think people have valid criticisms about Jules beside this scene. Jules did the right this here but she definitely could have done something before it got to this point. They both had fun with someone they KNEW was an addict until it wasn’t fun for them anymore. These are all supposed to be teenagers so it’s understandable why they all made bad choices but it’s important to see that no one here did the right thing when it was actually necessary

Between the writing and the acting, I've never seen a better representation of addiction. I mean, there are classics like "Requiem for a Dream" and "Leaving Las Vegas," but watching this scene felt like I was watching my life. And it felt so real! PS But just don't flush the drugs down the toilet! No one wants to accept the fact that our toilet water eventually becomes our drinking water, but it's the circle of life. LOL You should never flush drugs, especially not dangerous ones. IDK about illegal substances, but my pharmacy will take back any unused prescription medication and dispose of it properly.

2:03 BRO DONT TELL YOUR DAUGHTER SHES NOT A GOOD PERSON, the reason why she’s doing drugs is bc her father died and it’s torturing her emotions. If I were Rue’s mother I would try to empathise with her instead of insult her all the time for using drugs. Then I would put her in therapy, and encourage her to not use drugs or have some sort of alternative thing to make her happy, like a hobby or something extracurricular. YOU CAN NOT BEAT UR CHILDREN DOWN FOR BEING ASSOCIATED WITH A BAD THING, you can only help and inform them. That’s what a parent is supposed to do

@@S0LAVELLANHELL maybe the reason of it being strange is that it's actually true
@alivia9691 Жыл бұрын
Honestly your comment makes sense but it also isn't the reality of every situation. Rue's mom has always been empathetic to Rue, even though she's not perfect she did make sure she got admitted to the hospital and to rehab. But we also have to understand that Rue's mom is a person too. She can not stand for Rue physically attacking her and Gia in her own home. What's the point in positively helping someone that has no interest in being helped? You HAVE to hit rock bottom as a drug addiction in order to get better. My mom is an alcoholic and she was drunk for most of the years of my life. Although it's not the same relationship like Rue and her mom, me and my family tried to be kind to her and love her through it but it didn't matter. She loved drinking more than us. And that is without a fact true. Rue loved drugs more than her family. But after my mom hit rock bottom and was kicked out of our house and forced to rehab, she realized she will never get us back if she doesn't get better. Almost dying from liver failure wasn't her rock bottom. Losing us, her children, was her rock bottom. Drug addicts will always love the drug more than their family until they hit rock bottom. So, although I do understand and to an extent agree with your sentiment, it isn't always accurate unfortunately.

Rue did just as many bad things as a partner too; why are you blaming it all on Jules? Rue was purposefully gaslighting and lying to Jules about the drugs, making up lies to make Jules feel sorry and lie for her, plus more. With the train station, Jules did nothing wrong. If anything, Rue was irresponsible for going along with her drunk girlfriend's reckless idea and then ditching her. Rue shouldn't have gone with it to begin with, she was sober and not drinking (unlike Jules) and should have tried to stop Jules or at least tell an adult right away. Rue was a terrible partner as well, it's silly to think it's all Jules.
