In the real life case the victims where two little white sisters named Julie and Marcie Scott and the assailant was a black man named Willie James Harris. The author thought his book would have more impact if the races were reversed. Look it up.

I just finished watching Hell On Wheels. Good show, great acting, but almost none of its characters survive. You could really tell that it was being written at the same time as Game Of Thrones success, and they thought zeroing out the entire cast was trendy and would get people watching. There’s literally nobody left alive by the final season and it makes the show kind of funny and ridiculous.
