That is me. I also shop around, of course if you have a variety of grocery stores nearby it works. If you spend more gas than the saving is not worth it.

What I started doing this year in Jan is saving $1,000 a month for the entire year, for my vacation fund and an additional $200 a month towards my emergency fund. I then picked a country that I want to go to where my dollar will stretch further and go within the time where it will be less busy and inexpensive. After that, I take half of my vacation fund and put the other half into my emergency savings fund. So in total, I will saved $12,000 a year for my vacation fund, minus $6,000 of that to go into my emergency savings fund, plus I saved an additional $2,400 from my emergency savings fund, which gives me a total of $8,400 that I saved for the entire year, along with being able to go on a international vacation trip for the year. In all honesty, it takes discipline to save money and make sure that you understand basic economics of the “Need Vs Want” concept. That is what helped me to save money and budget well.

Glad to see you put the majority away. A neat trick is even with that $6k , you can aim for a budget friendly trip. Then whatever is left over, goes to your next vacation. It’s a win win.

Sometimes, you need to see in real time what may befall you if you don't manage your finances/spending. Perhaps take a ride to one of those areas....you know... where people who are sleeping under the bridges and are in shelters. Sometimes, you will see whole families in desperation. All of these people aren't addicted to drugs or mentally ill. Some were just living life, and because they may have been overly in debt or living paycheck and those paychecks stopped... they are now struggling to find a roof for themselves. Stay on guard because the "financial life" you save may be your OWN.

I have 3 kids and the youngest is 16 y/o. I have been struggling to follow the budget so the last 2 months I did envelope stuffing and assigned each one of them a number of envelopes. So far we are doing very well. I get paid once every 3 months so I must manage the funds very well. But I was failing hence enlisting the involvement of my kids. We just concluded our review this morning in a short family meeting and they all agree this is working. We have money for fuel, food, pet food, toiletries, essential bills paid & I can afford to buy some plants and flowers for our garden. I am a single mum raising 3 kids and one of them has serious health emergencies. I did it with my kids so can you.

I've had to learn and put in to practice these same 8 habits. My husband and I have our EF in HYSA and HYCDs, we use my rewards cc for our vacations and pay it off with our vacations savings account in which I save every 2 weeks. We keep our monthly expenses on a spreadsheet and have been for about 5 years now. We can go back to see what we paid for utilities, etc...a year ago. We have a financial positions ss that have all our life insurance, investments, mortgage balance, etc... we update this quarterly or more often as needed. I have a student loan bal less than 5k and another debt payment we are quickly eating away at. We don't have any cc debt to carry over, we pay the whole balance by the due date. It took a while to get here. We made a lot of mistakes along the way, but we are in a much better position than 5 years ago. I'm proud of us 😅. Love your tips. Keep em coming.
